Advantages: cheap, comfortable
Disadvantages: none
For the last coupl eof years, I have been traveling all over the country with friends to various places for gigs.
Due to the length of places we decided to attend, we had no real option but to opt for places to stay. Our choice was the travelodge.
Why did we choose travelodge?
Well, to be fair, it is one of the most well known hotel chains in the Uk and possibly the cheapest (apart from if we were to stay in a hostel) therefore it was the best option for us.
Another thing we liked was that the earlier we booked, the cheaper it was for the 4 of us to stay in one room.
For example.. On my 18th birthday we stayed in the Nottingham Travelodge, had a top floor room with a great view and huge window going all the way around the room for £19! Thats less than £5 each!! Bargain!
Another example was when we went to London for a secret gig and got told we would have to be near central London. Therefore we booked in advance to stay in the Covent Garden Travelodge, were talking smack bang in Central London and got a room for £19 also. It had a great view and was spotless.
Room amenities...
Each room was quite basic, its not the most luxorious hotel in the world but it is CLEAN! The cleaners come in everyday to make beds, clean the room totally and change the towels if we wish them to.
Each room contained a double bed, a sofa with pull out bed (i.e 2 people could sleep on this). A kettle- Ideal for those cups of tea, coffee and we also used it to make pot noodles with for cheap food! The room also contained a good sized TV, two big mirrors- one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. Bath/shower(depending on where you stay, some places have just a shower such as the one we stayed in at Kings Cross.
There are also many power sockets around for you to use at your leisure, for electricity I may add!
Some rooms also have WIFI and a phone to use, but not all!
FOOD:
Most Travelodges do have a bar/restaurant but not all! We stayed at one in Dudley thats didnt but this was because it was only small, however they did offer us the choice to have a breakfast box if we so wished for an extra price, but we dicided we didnt need one.
If you decide you wish to get a takeaway, the reception desk do have some local pizza/chinese menus behind the desk, just ask for them and you can order and get them delivered! We did this a lot, mainly for convienience.
STAFF:
I have always found the staff to be very helpful, they are pleasent and informative. Particually when we have asked for directions to places. Also, if you require more pillows or toilet roll or anything extra dont hesitate to ask, they will sort it out for you.
As with any hotel, there is someone on the desk 24 hours aday. However we did notice at night the receptionist tended to be foreign-this is not a problem really, but sometimes hard to understand is all.
Another thing to point out is that most of the hotels now have card slots instead of keys, which is a lot more handy as they fit in anyones purse/wallet liek a normal credit card and less likely to lose them. Also, If you require more than the one or two keys they give you, just ask and they can arrange to give you more i,e one each! We did this and they had no problem with it.
All in all, each Travelodge we have stayed in has been a good one. The beds are comfy, the rooms are clean and nice to be in. I would recommend this chain of hotels greatly.
I shall be staying with them in the future!
Thankyou for reading this and I hope it helped.
