Travelodge in general
Advantages: Cheap and clean
I have stayed at a few travelodges recently, whilst visiting family here and there, and feel they are great value for money.
Rooms can be booked through their website at: http://www.travelodge.co.uk/
Or you can walk up on the day, and book that way.
There are always great deals going on, if you book on their website, it enables you to get their ''saver rates''. These are usually £19 if booked at least 21 days in advance, or £29 if you book at least 7 days in advance. Plus, they sometimes do other deals where you can get rooms for £9 / £15 etc if booked in advance. Whilst these rooms are sometimes hard to get hold of in all hotels, especially the London ones, it is still a fantastic price if you can book in advance. If you turn up on the day, the room usually costs around £55 per night, or anything up to £115 for a London hotel, for example Covent Garden.
The rooms are very basic. A double room consists of a double bed, desk, en - suite bathroom, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and a wardrobe to hang your clothes.
If you book a family room, you will get all of the above, and an extra sofa/pull out bed.
The rooms have always been very clean. You get a maid service, where every day someone will come in and tidy up, empty the bins, clean the bathroom etc.
Whilst they have a stereotype of being right next to a motorway service station, that it not always the case. Most of the Travelodges are located in city centers in great locations. Most hotels have a restaurant / bar downstairs, which serve breakfast and food throughout the day. The buffet breakfast can be booked with the room, at around £6.50 per adult, or you can pay on the day. Kids eat free! Dinner and lunch, although untested, seemed to be reasonably priced.
I do not have much experience with the staff at the Travelodges, as I have not had any problems yet, but they have been friendly and helpful whilst checking in.
Checking out is quick and easy, you just place your room key in the slot on the reception desk.
Whilst I wouldn't recommend stays of say, a week or more at a Travelodge, they are perfect for the odd night here or there, or if you have to work away on business for the night. Even for a little two night break in a city you've never been before! It's just a clean, cheap base to use. You could easily spend a lot more on a far worse hotel, at least you know what you're going to get with a Travelodge.
Summary: Great budget hotel
