I have stopped at the Travelodge at Manchester Airport with my boyfriend quite a few times now and I haven't got any complaints about the hotel at all.
It is about a 5/10 minute taxi drive away from the terminals depending on traffic, if you are getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel I would suggest acting like you know exactly where the hotel is by saying something like "can you take me to the Travelodge please its next door to the Premier Inn" this way the taxi driver knows that you are aware how long it takes to get there and won't take you on a detour to get a few extra pennies. For a normal taxi ride from the terminals it should cost you roughly £6.00.
As you have probably already realised the Travelodge is situated right next door to the Premier Inn and isn't really situated in the hussle and bussle of the airport which is nice and they have a fairly large car park which has 100 car park spaces. The car park is controlled by a barrier so you know your car will be safe while you away, the car park however is quite expensive and costs £5 for 1 day, £10 for 2 days, £25 for 3 days, £40 for 4 days, you would be much better off booking the actual airport car parks as they will work out cheaper. It is a shame Travelodge don't offer a "park & stay" price for the hotel but I think someone else runs the car park so may be this isn't possible. We always get the train in to Manchester Airport as we find this a lot easier so we have never actually left our car there.
Checking in is really quick and simple you just give them your name and you get your key and that is it, every time we have stopped here the staff have always been happy and more than happy to answer any questions you have. I would suggest booking your transport to the airport in the morning (if you need it) when you check in as the buses get fully booked very quickly. It costs around £6 each to book the bus and you can pick a time that is suitable for you they then give you a receipt and you come down at your booked time in the morning and wait for the bus.
As always with Travelodge the rooms are clean and spacious and have your basic facilities comfy bed, TV, coffee making facilities, bath/shower, toilet etc. Our room was on the ground floor which was nice and easy for the morning and we were in a family room with a sofa bed even though we only booked a double so you can't complain.
The bar/restaurant is great it gets quite busy at night but you can always seem to find a table. They have quite a lot of variety on their menu and to be honest the prices are quite reasonable it beats going for tea at the airport and paying a fortune. I had a bacon cheeseburger with chips and salad and it was lovely the chips were lovely and chunky they gave you a pot of BBQ sauce with them which is a nice touch, the salad was a nice salad (not just lettuce and tomato) and the burger was lovely and I think this was about £6.00 which really isn't too bad. I think the bar stays open until about 12:30am and the food stops about 10:00pm.
We booked our room quite a few months in advance in the Travelodge sale and got it for £9.00, this is why I was surprised we were given a family room, with the cheap rate rooms they usually give you the not so "nice" rooms like the rooms with a window that faces a brick wall etc but we got given a great room.
Overall this is a great hotel and perfect for your stop over before or after holiday the rooms are clean and the beds comfy and you have a shower what more do you need? And when you can get rooms for under £20.00 it is a real bargain.
When we go on city breaks in the UK we always use Travelodge as they are reasonable and the rooms have everything you need. I always check every Travelodge sale to see what bargains I can get as you can't beat a weekend away for £9.00 :)
I am going to give this hotel five stars.
Summary: Perfect stopover hotel before or after your holiday!
