Advantages: Great location, cheap.
Disadvantages: Road noise.
Having had a recent excursion to the city of Manchester, I had a requirment to find a hotel for 1 night. Being the utter cheap skate I am, but still liking a little bit of comfort, I chose the Travelodge brand.
I found the Ancoats Travelodge on their own website, just by simply putting in the date of my stay, how many adults and Manchester. The results showed me several in the area, but I chose Ancoats as it was a 5 minute walk from where I needed to be. I booked it all through the website at a cost of £29 for the night. It was all very simple and what I would expect with booking on a website these days. Within 2 minutes, I had 2 emails from travelodge confirming my booking and welcoming me to the chain.
I found the hotel simple enough as well. It is located on a main road, I think the A62 or A665, something similar. I had no trouble what so ever with locating it. There is no parking however, so I had to locate some of that. Being as I don't know Manchester at all, I shall describe it as such. If you came out of the hotel doors and turned left, there is a 24hour NCP car park approximately 3 quarters of a mile (took me 2 minutes to walk) on the right hand side. This costs £8 for 24 hour parking, so not to bad.
Anywho, the reception is just like any other reception. A long desk with computers behind it. I was greeted by a staff member here, who checked me in and I had my key in my and within 1 minute. Very fast and efficient. I did not have to sign anything. To the right of reception is a small bar/breakfast area. I didn't use any of this, so can't comment on how good it is. To the left is a drinks machine and 2 evelators to take you up.
I went to these and the right elevator was not working. You have to put your keycard into a machine and press the lift button, which brings the lift. Good security I thought, but it didn't work for me. I had to go back to reception and ask where the stairs were to use them. They are located further down on the right, past the bar bit. Another card machine here, but it worked and I was on my way.
My room was on the 1st floor, right at the other hand (directly opposite the lifts!!). 1st impressions of the room were pleasant. It was very clean, still looked modern and decorated nicely. I had a double bed, with 1 shelf on one side (the other one had broken off previously by the look of it). A desk, with chair and TV on top. A small wardrobe, with some hangars, but no door on the front. It was designed like that, but did look odd. The bathroom was small, but had everything I needed, being toilet, shower and sink. It had a couple of small towels, but they were adequate.
For the price I paid, I was happy. Unfortunately, the hotel is located on a very busy main road. Busy all night long main road. It was fone for me as I have been used to sleeping in noisy areas before, although I did get woken up in the early hours by a siren. For light sleepers, I would potentially give it a miss.
Check out was simple enough. I gave the key to a man and left. Again, no signing anything.
All in all, a good hotel in a very good location. I would use it again.
Summary: If you sleep heavy and well, stay here.
