Advantages: Cheap, hood location next to airport
Disadvantages: Crap TV channels
This airport Travelodge has only opened relatively recently and so we've only just had chance to sample the delights it offers. Even though Sheffield isn't far away from EMA, the wife and I still prefer to stay in a hotel the night before a flight - it extends our holiday for another day and for just £19 per room, it really is good value.
This particular Travelodge is located at the M1 motorway services at junction 24 around a mile or so away from the airport. The hotel is built on top of the services, but noise wasn't a problem at all when we were there (despite what we'd read online beforehand - perhaps we just had quiet room or were lucky to pick a quiet night?). We didn't see a restaurant or bar, but I presume you can just get a bite to eat/drink from the services below... although expect to be changed an arm and a leg for that!
The room was a pretty standard Travelodge affair with a nice large double bed and good-sized en suite bathroom. It's one of the newer Travelodges and so was nice and clean inside with relatively new equipment.
The only disappointment was the lack of channels on the in-room TV - only the 5 terrestrial channels were available which is pretty poor in this day and age. I expect Sky Sports News as an absolute minimum! My only other complaint about the room is how creaky the floors were! They made a heck of a noise when you stepped in certain places and I'm sure the room below was cursing us when we got up just after 6am! But we didn't care cos we were going on holiday! :))
As with all Travelodges it is fairly basic with only 2 pillows and no turndown service, but you only have to ask at the front desk and they'll bring you whatever your heart desires! But if you want a cheap bed for the night, you really can't go wrong - especially at £19!
Summary: Surely the cheapest hotel at EMA?
