The reason for our stay was a music concert at The City of Manchester Stadium and staying an extra few miles away saved us a pretty penny! The room itself was just £19 and we had booked about 6 weeks in advance.
~ LOCAL FACILICTIES ~
Travelodge Oldham is located on Broadway, just off a long busy dual carriageway about 2 mils from Oldham town centre and 4 miles from Manchester City centre.
Also nearby is Spindles Shopping Centre (4 miles away), Manchester United Football Club (7 miles), University of Manchester (15 miles) and the Trafford Centre (16 miles)
Next door to the hotel is a Public House (I forget its name) where we ate in the evening. The Pub was extremely busy as it was the weekend and the music was very loud, we found it difficult to chat without shouting. The food was very nice, we had a few starters of potato skins, rubs and onion rings between us and it was affordable and tasty. We also treated ourselves to a Baileys Chocolate Cup which was divine. Lol.
There is also a MacDonalds very close by, which helped us out nicely for breakfast.
~ HOTEL FACILITIES ~
This Travelodge is entirely non-smoking and offers WiFi, which we did not use so i can not comment on it.
There is a vending machine in the lobby selling the usual chocolate, crisps and sweets along with soft drinks and water.
The hotel did offer breakfast for around £4.95 which consisted of longlife products like cereal and vacuum sealed croissants and such like. We did not take them up on this offer as it did not look to be worth the money nor appetising, especially with the MacDonalds near by.
~ OUR ROOM ~
We had booked a family room which sleeps up to 3 adults or a combination of adults and children. There were just the two of us. The room was very comfortable looking and was very clean.
There was adequate wardrobe /hanging space for our short stay. There was no iron or hairdryer in the room, but I have come to expect this from Travelodge and took my own. I do believe that they would easily produce either of these for you to borrow free of charge - I have done so at other locations.
The bathroom consisted of a bath, over bath shower, toilet and sink with a huge mirror and was clean and stocked with enough towels and toilet roll for a our stay. There was a small bar of soap complimentary; no shower gels, shampoos or that sort of thing - so make sure you take your own.
They supply the room with a kettle, mugs and plastic cups with tea, coffee, sugar and UHT milks and keep these well stocked. We actually asked for more Coffee at reception and they were more than helpful.
There is no air - conditioning (or at least was none at the time of our stay) but heating in the form of a radiator. And there is a story to tell here. Just before we nipped over to the boozer next door we turned the radiator on to warm the room up, it was December and very cold). When we returned there was an odd smell in the room, like burning walls! Lo and behold, when I turned the light on the wall which held the radiator was black. It was quite scary really, who knows if we had of stayed out all night - we were only gone for a few hours. We immediately reported it to the reception to make aware of the faulty radiator and they were very grateful and offered to move us. We stayed where we were, with the rad turned off.
~ THE STAFF ~
We actually only came in to contact with one member of staff during our stay, a 20-something lad who kept joining me outside to smoke and got his friend to deliver him a MacDonalds. He was very chatting and friendly and more than happy to help with our requirements. He was still there in the morning when we checked out - they must work some long shifts.
~ OVERALL ~
Overall, a pleasant stay, friendly helpful staff and good local facilities and good location. Everything we needed for the bargain price of £19. We would stay here again if the need arose.
Summary: worth the money
