... decided to dine at the bistro and were surprised to find that we were one of only two parties. The menu consisted of four choices per course. Excellent fare at an unbeatable price of £11.50 for 2 courses, another £2.50 for three. Wine started at around £12 per bottle and was also available in a couple of glass sizes. It was only when we returned to our room that I realised there was no air conditioning. On a very humid night, I didn't sleep too well even with the window slightly ajar. When hubby and I had to travel to Bridgwater in Somerset on a business trip, my first job was to check out hotels. Although there were several hotels in the area, this was the only one that met with our criteria of having a car park and somewhere to eat. I rang the hotel and was given the price of £127 for an Executive double room which included breakfast. From the outside, the hotel resembles a large pub. Best Western Walnut Tree Hotel, North Petherton. We where recently invited to a 30th wedding anniversary at the West India House Pub. We booked a room at the Walnut and so I thought I would write a review on its location and facilities. The hotel has a bar, Fantastic restaurant and also an informal bistro serving local food and ale. The bedrooms are ...  Read the complete review

If you are visiting around the Taunton area I can recommend the Walnut Tree Hotel in North Petherton which lies on the A38 between Taunton and Bridgwater. Like many village hotels it is a former coaching house that has been extended over the years to become a substantial hotel. During my recent stay I found the staff very helpful and attentive. The rooms are well above average size being spacious, light and clean. As well as the spacious en-suite there was tea and coffee making facilities for you to use. The décor was modern but perhaps in some areas getting close to a refit. One problem with a hotel like this is that refurbishments are often done piecemeal to ...  Read the complete review
