Me and a few friends travelled to Newcastle the weekend just gone. We wanted to go somewhere different and quite cheap and so decided on newcastle, and the Waterside Hotel.

For a weekend break a double room (2 singles or one double although the singles tend to run out quicker)costs £55 which is a very good price for what you get.

The rooms are quite old fashioned in style but this is fine as all rooms are en suite and have a bath, shower, kettle, ironing board(not that anyone uses it), coloured t.v. with most satellite channels, and a mini bar(although you need a key from reception for this!)

We did not have breakfast as it was quite expensive, generally i think about £11 but this was ok as the hotel is surrounded by cafes, bars and pubs where food can be picked up easily.

The hotel is quite friendly and reception is open 24 hours incase anything is needed. The one night we couldn't get any hot water and so phoned reception and within 30mins a plumber had sorted out the problem which i thought was very good.

However, by far the best thing about this hotel is its location. It is directly opposite the swing bridge on the Tyne in the district that revolves arounsd nightlife. You only need to walk out of the front door and your met with many bars and clubs. The only time this is a problem is when you want to sleep about 1am and there's thousands of people outside singing(Hey Baby was the fave this weekend).

You can walk through the hotel to an adjoininh Italian restauraunt which is quite cheap and nice. You can order room service to bring you food from there although an extra 20% is then added to your bill. Also, the hotel adjoins Jimmyz, a funky bar and on Sundays, Casa which is opposite takes over food servings.

The hotel is around 10 minutes from newcastle central train station and although it is ok walking there, going back into town can be a struggle as it's right next to the river and so th
ere is quite a climb to walk.

When you book a room you are sent confirmation and a map which is useful although we still got lost as we turned left instead of right and ended up at the Millennium Bridge instead of the Swingbridge.
However, if you head for the Tyne Bridge that you can't miss there's always plenty of friendly locals who are willing to guide you.

If your in Newcastle you couldn't get much better than this hotel, especially if nitelife is central to your trip.
