Woodside Cottage (Matlock) Reviews

Newest Review: ... date to arrive. This we did, taking our two life long friends with us on a 200 mile single journey from home to Stanton Lees. On arrival we were all met by KATH, come in, would all like a cup of tea, "YES PLEASE" was the combined reply, that appeared with home made strawberryjam/cream scones---delicious. The rooms are well very appointed, TV, "Ensuite" and very comfortable. All rooms recently refurbished! In the lounge is a "Wall-hanging" made by Cynthia to celebrate our TEN successive years visiting "WOODSIDE", that is now a "Tribute" to Cynthia and KATH & KEITH, the wording undern... more

Our stay at Woodside for four days was a real treat. The room was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Sightings of more birds from the breakfast conservatory than I have ever seen. Numerous nuthatch, jay, chaffinch, tits and the occasional tree creeper and bull finch and even a pair of buzzard flying overhead. The house is in easy walking distance from the Nine Ladies stone circle and two magnificent pubs; The Druid Inn and Red Lion at Birchover, both served superb food each having completely different menu's.The best thing about our stay however was meeting our hosts Kath and Keith. You couldn't meet a nicer couple. Nothing was too much trouble. The enthusiastic greeting by Kath with delicious home made scones and jam. The superb quality and good selection of breakfast. Help about local attractions and how to get there. Just perfect.

Together with my late Wife (Cynthia) we spent FOURTEEN consectutive years at "WOODSIDE"1966-2010. Now I am returning in 2011 for 4 separate visits! Kath & Keith are such a wonderful couple, nothing too much trouble, dietary requirements are readily attended too, the breakfast are really appetising, plenty of choice. Originally found "WOODSIDE" in 1966 in the W. I. Handbook, phoned for advice on booking a reply was from a very informative Lady (KATH) agreed dates.rates, and awaited the booked date to arrive. On planning my first short break alone, following my husband's death 2 years ago, I was so fortunate to find Woodside Cottage on the internet. What a warm welcome I received on my arrival on the evening of 18th March. Kath and her husband immediately made me feel at home and insisted I join them for the rest of the evening, which was very kind of them as I had envisaged sitting on my own in my room watching TV. The breakfast was delicious - I have never before had such a bowl of fresh fruit salad to start! I was wonderfully spoiled the whole weekend by this lovely couple. The room I stayed in was really good and had magnificent views from the windows, and it was ... Read the complete review

Last year, we decided to holiday in this country during the summer holidays, and surfed the Smoothhound accommodation site just a month before we were due to go! We decided on the Peak District, because neither of us had ever been there before. We picked half a dozen likely looking B&Bs and emailed for tariffs and availability. I had already picked this one (Woodside) as my favourite, and was delighted when the proprietor emailed back within a couple of hours, with a vacant room for the dates we required. One or two emails later, and Kath and myself were on first name terms! We were also booked in for 6 nights in August, with just a £15 per person deposit. ... Read the complete review
