Advantages: Wonderful establishment to visit.
Disadvantages: Rather a lot of steps difficult for disabled persons.
Together with my late Wife (Cynthia) we spent FOURTEEN consectutive years at "WOODSIDE"1966-2010. Now I am returning in 2011 for 4 separate visits! Kath & Keith are such a wonderful couple, nothing too much trouble, dietary requirements are readily attended too, the breakfast are really appetising, plenty of choice.
Originally found "WOODSIDE" in 1966 in the W. I. Handbook, phoned for advice on booking a reply was from a very informative Lady (KATH) agreed dates.rates, and awaited the booked date to arrive. This we did, taking our two life long friends with us on a 200 mile single journey from home to Stanton Lees.
On arrival we were all met by KATH, come in, would all like a cup of tea, "YES PLEASE" was the combined reply, that appeared with home made strawberryjam/cream scones---delicious. The rooms are well very appointed, TV, "Ensuite" and very comfortable. All rooms recently refurbished!
In the lounge is a "Wall-hanging" made by Cynthia to celebrate our TEN successive years visiting "WOODSIDE", that is now a "Tribute" to Cynthia and KATH & KEITH, the wording underneath the "Wall-Hanging" has been suitably amended to accommodate the appropriate wording.
"Woodside" is a joy to visit be it in the Spring time with new life appearing, Summer enjoying the sunshine, Autumn and the fabulous colours in surrounding woodlands, Winter, enjoying the heat from the massive log fire in the lounge, so comfortable whatever the weather outside!
The location of "WOODSIDE" is idyllic, high up above the River Derwent Valley, with the A 6 road and the preserved railway "PEAK RAIL" together looking like a toy panorama spread out before your very eyes, lots of woodland, acrooss the valley on the other side are the dales and moorland. "WOODSIDE" has a wonderful location with very attractive gardens, lots of wild life.
Car parking used to be a slight problem but no (At enormous expense) an "Off road" hardstanding has been provided for three vehicles if parked "PROPERLY"!!
One reading this review would think i am biased!! How right you are!! To me it is home from home and well worth that 400mile return journey each time, be it 1,2,3,or 4 times in the year!!!!
