Yr Hafod (Aberystwyth)
Advantages: peaceful part of the town
Disadvantages: parking a problem during peak season
I stayed there with my girlfriend for 2 nights in May. The b and b is located on the south beach, just a 5 minute walk away from all the main bars and noisy students. From our double, en suite room we had a sea view. It was amazing. We could also see the harbour, the ice cream hut opposite and parts of the castle. The sounds of the waves splashing up on the beach at night made us fall asleep. Parking is quite easy, you can just park anywhere along the sea front free of charge though private parking is available if needed at a charge of £2 per night. It is not a wheelchair friendly place though.
Upon arrival we were given a a combination number to the front door to let ourselves in, something which I found much better than having to take a key everywhere with you. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs but we're young and were not bothered by that but the more elderly of guests may find it a bit of a struggle.
Our room had tea and coffee making facilities, tv and dvd player with a choice of dvd's to watch. Some sweets and chocolates, the complimentary bible, a double bed, lovely shower and 2 comfy seats to sit on and admire the sea view.
On the ground floor you can watch Tv, play games, help yourselves to some free maps of the area and this is also where breakfast is served. We had a traditional welsh breakfast each which was bacon, sausage, fried/scrambled eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms. A vegetarian option is also available as well as a continental breakfast. It was super yummy and was washed down quite nicely with a pot of tea.
Our room cost us £38 per person per night which compared to some of the other b and b's located in the centre of the town was quite reasonable.
The owner, John, is a very friendly guy who will happily answer any questions or queries you may have. He made our stay very welcome. We would happily return there again in the future and would recommend it to anyone.
Summary: excellent base for exploring the area
