Live Catch Trip Trap Mouse Trap
by mrsyardbroom
A few years ago a neighbour moved out and took her menagerie of ducks, chickens, goats and horses with her but she left behind the mice and rats. We got those.
First it was the mice. Deprived of their daily feed of corn and their comfy beds of hay they looked for somewhere safe to lay their heads. It had to be nice and ... warm, with plenty of food and no cats. We fitted the bill perfectly and into the house they came. Their droppings went everywhere and it was disgusting. Invasion mice had begun and I had to go to war against them.
First of all I cleaned like a mad woman and the cleaning cupboard was stuffed with disinfectants and antibacterials. The house has never been so clean. I also threw away all the food that had been chewed, but then I had to face the problem of getting rid of the mice.
I don't like killing things and the little grey mice were just as entitled to a life as we were so I had to find a humane way of trapping the mice. That was when I bought the humane mousetrap. The first night I set it up and baited it with the traditional cheese. It was quite easy and straightforward to use. You baited the trap, the mouse took the bait and activated the door. The poor little thing was then trapped inside a small plastic space.
We couldn't sleep. I worried about the mice. What if the trapped mouse died of fright. I'd feel terrible. I know it's daft but I can't help it. After a while I just had to get up and find out if we'd caught a mouse and oh heaven help us we had. It was there in the end of the mousetrap, quivering with fright as the light snapped on. Now what on earth should I do?
For those who are infested with mice, if you catch them and put them outside they'll come back in the house again. You have to take them a good long way away. I once saw someone take a mouse to end of her long garden and let it go. The mouse promptly scampered all the way back to the house where the dog pounced on it and killed it. No, there was no option. I had to get dressed and deal with the mouse. I took it down to our piece of land which is down a dark and muddy lane. The dog was puzzled but not keen on an extra walk so I left him behind.
That was one mouse down. Now for the rest. The next morning we had caught another mouse so down the lane it went as well. I hoped they'd be very happy. After several nights of dancing attendance on small furries I was starting to get quite tired with the lack of sleep and the neighbours were talking. It seemed that no matter how many mice I caught there were always ten more to take their place. In theory mice can breed every 25 days and it wouldn't need many breeding females to replace the ones I was evicting. Mice can also do considerable damage. They not only leave droppings everywhere but they urinate as well. They will eat anything they find and they'll chew through everything including electric cables. You can't eat the food that they've chewed and you wouldn't want to. We had to do something.
I could have gone out and bought ten more of the mousetraps but I wasn't sure this would address the problem. In the end I tackled it in a different way. I literally sealed everything edible into mouseproof containers and waited for the mice to leave. It worked. Within a few days the mice were clearly disgruntled at finding themselves deprived of their free lunch so they packed their bags and left. We haven't seen one since.
I would say that the mousetrap worked very well and did exactly what it was supposed to do. It would be ideal if you just had the odd mouse to deal with. We had an infestation and using one trap really wasn't effective.
If you want to get rid of mice the humane way you are better off sealing up their food source. Read the complete review |

Neutradol Super Fresh Aerosol
by pal60
Having pets does make the home smell nasty at times and so I always like to have a can of air spray to spray around my home when I need it to make it smell a little better. I use different brands and usually ones that take my fancy at the time I buy them. This one is my recent one I bought.
It comes in a can and I paid just a ... £1 for a 300ml can. I think it is cheap at this price. It has a fresh kind of smell but not one which smells of a perfume one like most air fresheners. This one is a light kind of smell but one I like.
It removes odours in the rooms, it removes cooking smells and especially curry or fish smells. I hate the smell of a food smell which lingers around the home for a while. This spray doesn't completely remove the smell but it does decrease it a little and help it smell a lot fresher.
It does help remove pet odour smells, it just helps to freshen the air a little when I first arrive home and I can smell the pet odour, a quick spray of this one and the room does smell a little better until I open a window. It does rid the smells and doesn't just mask over the smell like some other sprays. i find this one doesn't cover odours and removes them as much as possible. You cannot remove odours completely but this one does help to remove the nasty smells as much as a product can. I have pets and can smell the pet odours in the air when I come home if I have been out for the day, I just spray this into the air and the room smells really fresh again. Pet hairs fall all over the floors and get into the carpets and when cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, sometimes the air just then needs freshening a little bit and this one works well indeed for freshening up a room in the home.
It is a light spray and not too heavy, it sprays evenly into the air and a nice even mist. Not much is needed to help a room smell nice and so the can is one that will last for a good few weeks used every day.
It is a nice spray to use in the bathroom, it helps it smell nicer and it rids those nasty bathroom smells which are in every home. This gives the room a fresh smell and one that does last for quite a long time.
I recommend this spray, it is a good quality and rids odours well. Cheap to buy too. I think this it is one that helps reduce odours and doesn't mask it and just leaves a fresh smell in the room. If you like a perfume smell when you spray a room, this one maybe wouldn't be suitable because it is just like a fresh smell not one which contains a perfume fragrance, but it is still a nice one to buy.
I rate the spray 5 stars. Read the complete review |

Staedtler Triplus Colour Fibre Tip Pens
by -becky-
Coming up to exam season it is drilled into every student that revision is a must if you want to achieve good grades! I'm such a worrier and hate failing at anything, therefore I'm probably a little on the geeky side and start my revision quite a while in advance for up and coming exams. Making revision posters seems to work well for me, ... and I chose these Staedtler Triplus Colour pens for this reason. Although, they can be used for lots of other purposes other than revision.
~What are they?~
The claims on the pack say that these are "Fibre-tip pens in an ergonomic triangular shape for relaxed and easy writing and drawing." Fibre tip pen is basically a posher way of saying these are felt tips. They are slightly rounded but end in a pointy tip to ensure that your writing will be as thin and neat as possible - there's nothing worse than not being able to read your own writing!
~Packaging~
They come in a little plastic case (shown in the picture above) which clips at the sides. It's very easy to pull open and it also folds back and clips into place to create a stand for the pens. I think this is very clever and makes it easy to grab a pen or put one back when making my colourful revision posters. Each colour has their own slot in the plastic case, which I find comes in handy when you take a colour out and they don't all slip to one side. As the case is see through it's also perfect for being able to see what colours you'll be receiving in the pack before you buy them.
~How I found them~
The triangle shape of the pen makes them super easy to hold and write without any discomfort. The pointy tips of the pens glide across the page easily and don't scratch at the paper like some other brands of similar products seem to. My writing looks really neat in these and the tips do tend to stay pointy, however I have noticed that some of my most used colours have began to get a little rounded and has resulted in my writing being slightly fatter. From the amount of use these have had I can't really complain, but I do try my best to be careful with them to keep them in shape. The colour of the ink is true to the colour on the pens and they're all really bright colours that haven't gone dull or dried up. They also don't look like they're going to run out any time soon which is great.
Somehow I always manage to cover my hands in pen while I'm writing, but fortunately these don't stain at all. The ink comes of easily with a quick wash in warm water and soap. I haven't had it on my clothes (not yet anyway!) so I can't comment on whether they'd stain fabric or not.
~Where did I buy them?~
I got my pack of 10 from Wilkinson's for £5.75. There was also a slightly larger pack that were more expensive, but I felt there was a great enough range of colours with just 10 of them. In a pack of 10 you'll receive: a yellow, orange, red, pink, light blue, dark blue, dark green, light green, brown and a black. £5.75 isn't exactly cheap either compared to other felt tips, but you are paying for quality. I also think they'll be available from supermarkets and online such as Amazon.
~Would I recommend them?~
Yes, definitely! They're great and lovely to write with. I wouldn't suggest buying them for a young child to colour with as they do need care to stay in their original state (pointy), but for anyone else's use: for revision like me or whatever else you need them for, I think they are really good. By far the best colours I've used. Read the complete review |
