Homebase Paint Roller Kit
by xxfoxyredxx
I officially hate decorating! I took on a beautiful big airy and light flat but one that needed a lot of work but that was ok I wanted the place my way anyway and had plenty of expert help on hand.....
However its expensive, hard work and flipping messy and still although I have a flat I am not within it yet with work still ... happening to get the place looking right .I'im very fortunate like I have already mentioned to have expert help on hand but when I can I do a bit as well I like to as I really want to settle in this home and make it my own so that means to me having as much input as possible!
When I was in Homebase shopping for essentials I was advised to get a paint tray and roller, me I've never painted before really only dribs and drabs and had seen this sort of system being used (my ex was a decorator) but I hadn't actually used one myself and this one cost me £5.99 with the roller handle, 2 woven sleeves and a black plastic tray which was the cheapest I spotted in store on the day I bought this.
It all came in a see through pack which clearly told me what it all was and who it was by and the measurements and so on and it easily was torn off and disposed off.
This set is meant to be used with emulsion for ease of cleaning it really and is suitable for use on walls and ceilings alike. All you do of course is tip you emulsion into the deeper end of the tray which is rectangular and quite deep measuring (W)6.9, (L)36 and I got quite a bit in there and was impressed that it felt strong even when the paint was in it. The roller has a slim black plastic handle with homebase written into it and its a good length without being too long and the roller bit is white and feels soft and fluffy and that simply snaps on and rolls easily once on the handle.
I pop my roller into the paint, get rid of the excess paint to one side of it and get rolling. It rolls smooth and its up to me to make sure I have even coverage. Being quite wide it covers a largish area meaning less work for me and I find that I get the job done quicker and with far less drips with one of these that say a paintbrush!
I am really impressed with this. It gives my walls and ceilings a nice finish with no bits in it off the sleeve and when I pack up I just rinse the lot out but before it all goes too dry so it isn't reusable. Yes it takes time to clean it and it is pain after-all but I do like the fact that when the first sleeve goes on me I have another so I think that all in all this is great little kit and I'm really, really glad that I found it!

Homebase Chenille Cushion
by k2705
My mum has had one of these cushions on her sofa for several years and before I moved out I would always use it rather than any other cushion. Whilst browsing around my local Homebase one day I spotted the cushions and decided to treat myself to one.
The only packaging the cushion came in was a clear plastic bag however this was ... perfectly adequate and kept the cushion clean.
The Large Chenille cushion is made from a chenille material, its very soft and has a lovely tactile texture on the front, the back is just a plain material. It measures 50 x 50 cm's so its a nice large cushion but not too large to have on a sofa or chair. The pad inside is made from 100% polyester and the cushion cover is 70% cotton and 30% viscose. The cover is removable with a zip across the back in the same colour as the cushion making it blend in nicely.
The washing instructions are given as dry clean only however I know from my mum that they wash perfectly well on a delicate setting in the machine.
I bought my cushion in black, it is also available in red, raspberry, mocha, blue, pearl, taupe, and copper, so there's one to suit most colour schemes. The cushion cost me just £9. 99 which I consider to be a good price.
I've been really pleased with my Large Chenille cushion, I use it mainly on the bed if I'm snatching an hour with my book while Jayden has his nap or if I'm reading to him we sometimes use this so we can both lay on the same cushion, he seems to like this. I find it really comfortable for my head, neck and shoulders.
I have found that after a while the padding is starting to flatten slightly but for me personally this hasn't been a problem. I suppose if this was bought to use as a floor cushion then it would probably get less comfortable over time although it might be alright for a small child to use on the floor.
The cushion is well made with all the seams being straight and remaining secure. If you are looking for a nice large cushion then I can definitely recommend this one. I've certainly had my moneys worth since I've had it. Read the complete review |

Homebase Paint Roller Kit
by SusanLesley
Since we have been living here in our cottage I have been working my way round trying to get all the rooms painted.
The walls throughout the building are just plastered, but with random markings where the trowel has been, which fits in with the old age of the cottage. In the downstairs rooms there are beams on the ceiling with ... this same plaster effect in between. In the upstairs rooms the ceilings are smooth.
I have explained this detail to you to as you need to know why I wanted the paint roller. I find it easy to paint the walls with the markings as I can see where I have been and the paint does not need to be perfect.
BUT
When it comes to smooth ceilings I am hopeless! When my dad was alive I used to have a go myself but he always had to come in and give it a final coat to get it smooth and perfect for me.
So I began to paint the first bedroom - I did the walls and gave the ceiling a couple of coats with my trusty paintbrush but, although it looked better that I had ever managed before, it wasn't good enough.
I decided that I would get a roller kit and gave a go with that. I had seen dad use them to great effect so off I went to Homebase.
I purchased a basic roller kit and, although I can't remember how much I paid for it, they currently retail at £3.99 and of course you get Nectar points when you shop at Homebase too.
The product comprises a black plastic tray, a paint roller and a replacement head. These were all wrapped in cellophane and inside there was a sheet of green paper with the Homebase logo on it and just the words Extra Value Roller Kit.
The tray is made from black coloured plastic and it is rectangular in shape. The base of the tray has a well at one end where the paint is poured and a ridged slope from the well to the opposite edge of the tray. The whole thing is fairly deep which minimises the chance of spillage.
I put a reasonable amount of paint into the well so that there is enough to use but not so much that it would cause any problems with splashing or spilling.
The roller itself is made from plastic and covered in soft, furry material. This then pushes onto metal frame which has a black plastic handle with a good sturdy grip.
To use the kit I just poured some of the paint into the well of the tray, dipped the roller into the paint - rolling it to cover it with paint and then drew the roller up the slope of the tray to get rid of any drips. I then began to roll the roller back and forth across the smooth ceiling thus transferring the paint from the roller to the ceiling.
I gave the ceiling one further coat as I had already painted it twice with the paint brush. To my great surprise and pleasure the ceiling was covered well with no streaks. I have to say that dad would have probably got the finish even better than I did but I am sure that he would have been pleased with my efforts. I would give myself an 8 or even maybe a 9 out of 10 for my efforts!
The only problem with using a roller is the fact that it can give off a fine spray of paint during use, so do be sure to cover your furniture and carpets with dust sheets before you start.
Even though I have only used mine of the ceiling I am certain that it would be just as effective on the walls. The soft material of the roller head would mean that the paint would be pushed into every nook and cranny.
Once I had finished my painting I poured the paint remaining in the tray back into the tin and took the roller and the tray to the sink to wash them. I found the tray easy to rinse out as you would expect. The roller head took some time to clean but all I had to do was to hold it under a running tap until the water ran clear. The material of the roller head does hold a fair bit of paint so it takes a while to wash it all out but it is worth it because the material returns to its original condition once dry. To dry it I squeeze my hand along it to pull off any excess water and then dab it with kitchen roll. I then stand it on its end on a piece of kitchen roll to absorb any drips and just let it dry.
Well, I never thought I would say this but, I can recommend this paint roller kit! I have always been a paintbrush girl but I was very impressed with the finish that this roller gave me.
I would give it four stars - it loses one for the spray given off whilst painting. Read the complete review |
