Bic Yellow Barrell Ball Point Pen
by user789
Introduction:
Pens have a mysterious ability to tele-port from ones home to unknown planet just so you are forced into buying more, I just kiddy. Pens just seem to get lost very very easily in my home. So I always find my self buying large amounts of pens to keep my pen pot filled. So I tend to buy cheaper pens as I pretty much know ... that they will some how get lost in a few weeks or even days. BIC have been my favourite pen maker for a very long time as they offer reliability at an affordable price. So I naturally buy these pens on a regular basis.
The price:
In small stationary shops these pens cost around 25p each or 15p-20p each when bought in bulk. They do last for quite a long time so if you do the maths you would find yourself spending around 20p for 2/3 weeks of consistent writing. A pretty good deal I must say.
The looks:
These pens come in a very modest looking orange/amber with tips and lids that have the same colour as the ink itself. They are thin Introduction:

The ink:
the ink is not as runny as some cheaper models as the roller is made of better quality, so you do not get smudges every where. All the inks blue, black, red and green are of the same quality. The ball is very consistent in releasing ink without drying up then becoming too runny all of a sudden. Thumbs up for consistency.
Would I recommend:
DEFINITELY, they are great for writing letters and formal purposes and even good for doodling. A cheap pen with serious performance. Read the complete review |

Staedtler 430 Stick Ball Pen
by trayrope
Every house needs something to write with, even in these modern times where we type and text more than putting an actual pen to paper.
When I think of a cheap, disposable ball point pen I immediately think of Bic Biro. It was only today when I was balancing the wobbly household accounts, rather aptly using a red pen, that I ... noticed my humble ball point was not a Bic but a Staedtler Stick.
Staedtler Stick, like Bic, make a variety of cheap, disposable ballpoint pens, a quick look on a amazon.co.uk shows me that they come in the expected colours of black, red, blue and green and a pack of 10 assorted colours can be yours for the super low price of £3.85 + 99p postage.
Although my pen has sadly lost its cap it still gives excellent writing results every time. The caps not only protect your pen from bits of fluff and dust sticking to the ballpoint end they also have a plastic clip so you can secure them in your shirt pocket or to the piece of paper you are writing on so they don't roll away.
The barrel of the pen is a hexagonal shape and made of clear plastic, not only is this comfortable to hold for long periods of time, it also enables you to see how much ink you have left. As I previously mentioned the Staedtler Stick is a disposable pen so once the ink runs out you can not buy refills and must, unfortunately, throw your pen away.
The Staedtler Stick has a medium width of 0.35mm, this is very nice to write with and looks just right on paper. I have never suffered with any scratchiness when writing with the Stick, the ink has always flowed well right to the end of the pen, in the same vein I have never suffered with a Staedtler Stick flowing to fast and leaving splotches of sticky ink on my paper. I have had my red Staedtler Stick for absolutely ages and I have written a lot with it, they never seem to run out they just get lost.
I personally feel the Staedtler ballpoint pens are of a better quality then Bic Cristal ballpoint pens, they just seem to be made a bit better I have never had one run out, go scratchy, fall to bits or leak like I have experienced with pens from the other brand. Given a choice I would rather buy and use a Staedtler Stick than a Bic Cristal.
Thank you for reading. Read the complete review |

Berol Dry Wipe Pen Broad Tip
by Seven17
I've got a whiteboard week planner in the office so I keep a pack of pens next to it in case one runs out (nothing like being on the phone and your pen doesn't work) so rather than buy these individually I got a big 12 pack off Amazon for £5 + £1.55 postage. Bargain!
I want to get the negative out the way here, the felt lacks ... structural integrity, the felt is just too weak to be used constantly and if you're heavy handed these are not for you. The tip really feels flimsy and there's no solid felt at all, it can be crushed easily if you press hard whereas, the Zebra whiteboard pens i've tried are rock solid and feel better made.
Moving on to some more positive points though, the pens do last quite a long time, for me it's a good few months before they run out, and when they do sadly they cant be refilled like highlighters, they have to be binned. They are also not recyclable but the packaging is. Cardboard is widely recycled.
The ink isn't bad actually, occasionally blotchy and patchy here and there but generally it flows out the pen quite well. When you first start using the pen you'll see a solid black line and as the pen runs out it'll loose ink around the edge of the tip and so lines look less full, and there's less in at the top and bottom of your line.
Writing is quite comfortable, being perfectly circular grip is few and far between when writing with sweaty hands but you can just "wipe dry" if you'll pardon the pun. The logo on the pens does wear off after time but you normally run out of ink faster than the logo can completely disappear.
When it comes to wiping the ink off the board this is easy and it doesn't leave any dried on patches behind. It takes seconds to "dry" onto the board but after that it won't smudge. I've got the berol board wiper that was designed for this exact purpose and it works well together with this pen.
Overall this is a great pen but expensive when bought individually so i'd recommend getting a 12 pack off amazon for a fiver, and certainly stock up if you see them on offer. These are great for leaving around the office and work on all white boards. Highly recommended. Read the complete review |
