Air Wick Reed Diffuser
Advantages: design, smell, lasting
Disadvantages: rrp, no refills
A reed diffuser is a home fragrancing product. It doesn't need to be plugged into a socket or lit to work. It works by using rattan stems in a jar of fragranced oil. The stems soak up the oil and send the fragrance upwards to be released into the air.
===Air Wick Reed Diffusers===
The reed diffusers produced by Air Wick, come available in 5 different fragrances. The 3 main, everyday fragrances include Freesia and Jasmine, Cool Liner and White Lilac and Magnolia and Cherry Blossom.
To coincide with the Christmas season, Air Wick have launched 2 Limited Edition fragrances as part of the Touch of Luxury collection. Midnight Blackberry and Vanilla Silk and also Muller Wine and Crackling Fire (which this review concentrates on). This specific fragrance can also be purchased in sprays, plug ins etc. It is a warm and inviting blend of cinnamon, red apple and vanilla.
The fragrance should last for around 4weeks and each vase contains 50ml of fragrance and essential oils.
===Preparation and Design===
Everything that is needed for the reed diffuser is contained within a tall, cardboard box. The box is open in places at the front allowing you to see what you are getting. If you cannot initially smell the fragrance, a scratch and sniff label is on the front for your enjoyment. The box reflects the colours of this holiday season with warm reds and vibrant greens and all information you require is included on the rear.
Inside the box, a thick, glass vase type container which is clear and shows an abundence of red, circular pockets within a liquid. A pack of 6, light amber rattan sticks are present and await their fate. It is advisable to wear gloves when setting the reed diffuser up. Unscrew the cap of the vase and pop out the plastic piece before screwing the cap back on. Once the cap is on, spread the rattan stems evenly in the hole and place on an even surface.
General practices apply such as avoid contact with eyes, keep away from children etc.

===Availability and Price===
The complete set is available in supermarkets and stores such as Wilkos. The normal retail price is around £6.00 but Asda currently offer this at half price (£3.00).
I love my home smelling beautiful and spend a small fortune in plug ins and sprays. I want guests to come into my home and comment on the pleasant aroma they experience and not be looking in disgust if hubby has left his trainers sitting or my son has had a stinky bum incident! I feel there is nothing more unpleasant than entering someones home and it being generally nifty!
SInce moving into a bigger flat in August, I have mainly kept the house nice with the use of the 3Volution plug ins but I decided I wanted something extra festive to blend in with my Christmas decorations and films. Something and screams festive joy and warmth as they enter my home. Around 5weeks ago, I was shopping in Wilkos and spotted the Air Wick Reed Diffuser on offer at £3.46. I distinctly remembered that my good friend, Alyson29 had reviewed this and thought very highly of it so this sealed the deal for me.
I chose the Muller Wine and Crackling Fire variety as it was the only one available on the stand alongside the other festive offerings. I do use the air freshener spray in this range and its a delightfully heartwarming scent and one I very much appreciate at this time of year. The first box I pick up was extremely overpowering in fragrance and it turned out to be leaking inside so I gave it to the assistant and collected another one, ensuring I carefully packed it and didn't bump it on the way home!
By the time I arrived home, I was eager to set up my new treat and had already decided it would take pride of place in my large and rather weird shaped living room. I had never used a reed diffuser before but my partners aunt had one and I didn't know what it actually was until I purchased this one!
Setting it all up was a doddle and I could feel my spirits being lifted instantly. I wore a pair of rubber gloves and popped the cap out with ease and the festive aroma engulfed my senses from the outset. The liquid inside the vase was thick and the red balls reminded me of strawberry jelly cubes waiting to be dissolved but they never did dissolve!
The rattan stems were a good length and once placed into the vase, sat several inches above the opening. Spreading them out caused them to jump around and sit awkwardly but they didn't cause any issues. The overall design was quite pretty and the visual of the liquid contained within, really added a touch of festivity to the ensemble. I placed this on my unit away from my toddlers reach and let it get to work. It was a bit weighty and therefore steady to avoid falling after bumps or floor shoogling!
I thought it would take a long time for the rattan stems to soak up the liquid and release the beautiful fragrance that my nose desired but I was in for a suprise. Within an hour the pleasant fragrance rose from the stems and gradually engulfed my living room. It was delicate at first but after a day or two, the fragrance came through full force and really warmed up my living room.
The fragrance could be detected even at the far side of my living room and at my balcony which is through an alcove. Walking into the room from my hall or kitchen also alerted me to its luxurious presence. The cinnamon was most prominent and was deliciously spicy - childhood memories of baking ginger bread houses with my Gran enter my mind and cheer me up.
I feel that the fragrance changes quite regularly and this keeps the aroma consistent and inviting without being overpowering or boring. I often detect the spicy cinnamon when I first enter the room and the vanilla comes through soon after giving off a sweet and stunning aroma when never fails to amaze me. I fully appreciate the fragrance when lying watching a Christmas movie and it was most appreciated when we decorated our tree 2weeks ago.
Guests and moreso my Mother in law have commented on the beautiful fragrance sweeping through the living room and others have said how warm and welcoming the fragrance makes them feel. Heavy, drawn curtains, the glow of the tree and soft music playing in the backgroud add an enchanting experience to the reed diffusers abilities and I can only imagine have a fire place with a roaring glow to accompany its luxurious pleasures.
Throughout the weeks, the liquid with the vase has soaked up and changed the colour of the rattan sticks. They darkened and the liquid content reduced slowly with the little red balls remaining strong and very much present like Rudolphs nose or mine after 10mins in the cold snow outside! 5 weeks down the line and there is still a small amount of the liquid floating at the base oif the jar. I give the stems a quick budge every day to keep the fragrance alive and although the fragrance isn't as powerful as before, it still creates a delicate and pleasant aroma nearby. I will keep it going until it runs out of scent.
Yes! I fully recommend this reed diffuser. The fragrance is warming and festive and is an amazement to detect when coming in out the cold. It is appreciated by those within my house and also by guests and has lasted longer than expected. It is pretty and looks lovely on my unit and so much nicer than a can of air freshener. The price isn't too bad at half price but I personally wish that refills of the liquid and rattan refill packs were available.
I will hopefully have this fragrance going until after Christmas and will consider purchasing the other fragrances throughout the year as I really enjoyed my purchase of this Air Wick Reed Diffuser.
Thanks to Alyson for your sincere recommendation..Merry Christmas xx
