Advantages: The smell lasts for a long time!
Disadvantages: Price!
I first purchased one of these when I moved home back in December. I personally think they are an attractive way to scent your home.
The diffuser normally costs around £6 however if you shop around you can find them cheaper. In Wilkinsons currently they are £3.06. The scent I always purchase is clean linen and white violet. There are other varieties and handily each box has a scratch and sniff sticker on the outside so you can test the fragrance before you buy.
The Air Wick Reed Diffuser is described in the packet as using natural rattan stems to delicately diffuse fresh and clean fragrances which bring the freshness of nature into your home through an elegant design.
Each pack consists of six rattan stems and a glass bottle full of fragranced oil. The bottle also contains several white beads which enhance the fragrance. To set the diffuser up you simply remove the cap from the glass bottle and insert the reeds into the pot. The instructions then state you need to place on a flat surface.
I place my reed diffuser on the window ledge at the top of my stairs. Immediately after opening you can smell the scent. As stated earlied I always buy clean linen, which smells exactly like clean linen. It reminds me of how my washing smells after it has been blowing on the line on a nice spring day. The smell is stronger than other methods of home fragrancing I have tried (candles and plug ins).
As the weeks pass the oil starts to evaporate until eventually all that is left is the little beads in the bottom of the bottle. I personally find that the fragrance lasts longer than 4 weeks as the reeds continue to smell after the oil is absorbed.
Once the time comes to throw away the bottle I keep the reeds and put them in my drawers to scent my clothes and socks!
I would recommend this as an alternative to the usual fragrancing methods, the scent is far more powerful than plug ins and seems to last a lot longer. The only downside is the price, but if you keep a look out they are often on offer.
Summary: A great alternative to the usual plug in!
