Air Wick Reed Diffuser
Advantages: smells good, long lasting
My first experience with a reed diffuser was not a good one. I placed one on my coffee table, but knocked it over by accident and the spilt oil left black stains on the wood, meaning I had to throw the table out. I then placed it on the windowsill but again it got knocked over, drenching a shirt that was drying on the radiator below. Given this experience, I was not in a hurry to purchase another one, however when I found this product on special offer at just £3 I decided to buy it as I had a coupon which meant that it would be effectively free.
The Air Wick reed diffusers come in a variety of scents - freesia and jasmine, cool linen and white lilac, midnight blackberry and vanilla silk, precious silk and oriental orchids and mulled wine and cinnamon apple. I purchased the precious silk and orchids variety as I felt it was the nicest of the ones available at the time, although had the blackberry and vanilla been in stock, I'd probably have gone for that one.
The idea of the reed diffuser is that you get a small jar into which you pour scented oil. You then place reeds into the jar and they soak up the scent, in turn fragrancing your room. Everything you need comes included in the box.
The little jar is glass and is filled with translucent round beads. I actually thought these looked quite pretty, until my fiancé asked why there was 'a jar of frogspawn with twigs in it' on the windowsill! Since then every time I look at it I can't help thinking of frogspawn. The one thing that ruins the overall look of this to me, is that the top of the glass jar has a plastic part around the rim, which makes it look cheap and nasty.
The fragrance oil you get with this is quite strong smelling and it is advisable to wear gloves when pouring it into the glass 'vase' as I can tell you from experience if you get this on your hands the smell will not come off easily. The scent of the reed diffuser is quite pleasant. It's a soft floral smell and although I tend to avoid floral fragrances I don't mind it at all, it's quite inoffensive.
When we first bought this I put it on the windowsill of our downstairs loo. This is the smallest room in the house and the fragrance in the room was quite intense. I don't think it was overpowering, but it was definitely strong and noticeable. The reed diffuser had been in there for about three weeks when we decided to have cavity wall insulation put in. We were advised to move everything off windowsills just in case the vibrations caused breakages and so I put this in the living room. I found that even in there - a much larger room - the scent of this was detectable throughout and it left a lovely subtle background fragrance that I could smell each time I walked in.
I no longer have the box this came in, but I believe the scent of the reed diffuser is only supposed to last for four weeks. We have had ours on the go for around six now and I'm still getting plenty of fragrance from it.
The full price of the reed diffusers is £6.50 in Tesco and £6.13 in ASDA. This has gone up slightly from when I purchased mine as at the time it was £6 reduced to £3. These are on offer quite frequently and I actually saw them just yesterday reduced to £4 in ASDA.
Overall I have been very pleased with this reed diffuser and I would definitely buy another one. It smells lovely and has lasted really well, so I would recommend it.
Summary: I love it!
