This review is for the "New Airwick Comforting Vanilla Dream" Candle
You can always tell when its Autumn in supermarkets as every year along side your normal air freshners and fabric sprays the scented candles make an appearance. Looking at the selection in Tesco the other day this year aswell as the normal christmassy mulled wine and glistening snow candles Airwick have brought out an old favourite ready to make our homes smell that much better - "Vanilla Dream"
Housed in a cutaway cardboard container the opaque glass candle sits proudly, the packaging explains that the candle is made with essential oils and boasts 30-40 hours of fragrance. Easily measuring 5-6 inches in height the container the candle sits in is made of a decent thickness glass so reassures you it wont split or crack once you have lit the candle itself.
You only have to pick the box up to be met with the fresh smell of Vanilla, it has a very sweet aroma, not at all subtle like other scented candles; You know even before you light it that it is going to do exactly what it says it will do.
The scent itself is described by Airwick as being "A comforting frangrance of luxurious vanilla combined with silky smooth cream" and to me thats exactly what it does smell like. We have one of these candles lit in our living room on an evening and it really does fill the room with scent, if you leave the room and go back in you notice it straight away. Although the fragrance is strong it is not overpoweringly so and is comforting on a cold, dark Autumnal night.
The only downside to this product in my opinion is the price. At £5.00 per candle from Tesco it does seem an extravagant purchase, weighing up the cost versus the amount of time the candle lasts (30-40 hours) makes it more of a luxury item than just having a cheaper brand alternative or simple air freshner.
They say you get what you pay for, and in this products case thats probably true, to be honest I only bought this item as it was on special offer with 1 candle costing £5.00 but 2 costing £6.00, obviously making them a more wallet-friendly £3.00 each.
I cant say even though it is probably one of the best fragranced candle I have ever bought (and I have bought quite a few over the years!) that I would buy it again unless of course it was on offer. But for those of you on a higher budget that like these then you would have to look very hard to beat this product in terms of fragrance.
A 3/5 rating for me and thats only down to the price. If it was cheaper then it would get 5/5
Now that the festive season is over the abundant choice of cinnamon, mulled wine and spiced apple scented candles are leaving our supermarket shelves all too quickly. As I always like to have scented candles burning throughout my house I decided it was time to find a new scent to try.
Airwick have just released new spring moods scents in their scented candle range, Awakening - Magnolia and Cherry Blossom was the one that caught my eye first.
The Airwick candles come as a solid non-removable candle in the base of a glass holder, probably filling about half. The holder is just a plain glass holder, which is wider and quite rounded as the bottom, narrowing in the middle and then straightening out at the top. I find these glass holders quite attractive and tend to wash them out and re-use with other candles and tealights. The candle and holder are partly enclosed by a cardboard cover detailing all product information.
When I opened the candle and smelt the wax before burning I was quite aware of the strong magnolia scent with a slight floral background. This candle is a pretty soft, feminine pastel pink shade. Before use obviously remove all packaging and trim the wick slightly to avoid excessive smoke. I find it usually takes about ½ hour of burning the candle before I start to smell the scent in the room. Now that the candle is burning I smell more of the cherry blossom, floral scent in the room. I really love these candles and find my rooms all smell wonderful when burning them. I even find that when I open the door the next morning the aroma from the candle still lingers from the night before.
A beautiful cheery fragrance, which lightens the feel of the room.
A small tip for burning candles, if you store them in the fridge before use this is supposed to lengthen the burning time, although these candles do burn very slowly usually giving about 20 - 22 hours burning time.
Available from Tesco at £2.68 Each.
Thank you for reading.
