      One I will buy again

I love trying anything that will fragrance my home whether it be air fresheners or candles, I always have a slight obsession with everything being colour coordinated so when I spotted this Air Wick crystal Air in my local Asda I knew it would be perfect for my bathroom, both in colour and fragrance. I love floral smells and sweet pea sounded gorgeous, sadly I also knew that the pink colour of the gel would match some new towels I had recently bought perfectly.

Air Wick Crystal Air is a little recyclable glass disc with ribbons of coloured gel running through it, the gel is designed to fragrance your home for up to 6 weeks, although I have found from past experience this hasn't been the case, it comes with very little packaging, the glass disc is on a card with a plastic cover over it. The card has the Air Wick Crystal Air logo on the front along with the fragrance you have chosen in this case Pink Sweet Pea. The background of the card is covered in pink sweet pea flowers.

Air Wick describe this fragrance as follows " Delight your senses with full bloom pink sweet pea and fresh melon, accented by a burst of sun ripened raspberry"

On removing the glass disc from the packaging you can instantly smell that it is floral, I'm not 100% convinced it actually smelt of sweet pea but the smell is very nice, I cant say I detected any melon or raspberry though however I was very pleased with the fragrance. I popped the glass disc on my bathroom windowsill where it looked quite nice. The light shone through the glass and pink gel and it looked quite pretty.

I have been using my Crystal Air for about 3 weeks now and the smell has faded considerably, it does still smell nice and flowery when I walk into the bathroom but its much fainter, the gel is starting to dry out a little. I definitely wont get 6 weeks fragrance from it, I would say four will be the limit. Crystal Air is ideal for a small room, porch or bathroom but in my opinion they are not suitable for a larger room.

I would certainly recommend Crystal Air Pink Sweet Pea and will use it again, it has made my bathroom smell lovely and also looks quite attractive too. I bought mine from Asda where it cost me £2.00 and in my opinion its worth the money. It is definitely a small room air freshener and also a room where the door is kept closed. If you like floral fragrances then you will probably like this one.

      .

I had seen this product for sale for years and to be honest I never thought about picking it up. It didn't look all that special and perhaps I felt it looked a bit cheap. Thesedays Air Fresheners seem to be a lot more sophisticated with motion sensor on them and all that, but I still tend to just use a spray aerosol. However I thought that having something in the house that gentle scented the air without me spraying anything was a good idea.

I picked this up in Asda and it was on a Rollback offer for £1.50. I think the normal price for this is anything upwards of £1.80 depending on the shop.

The pack that this comes in is just a simple thing with a plastic part on the front so you can see the whole thing and just a bit cardboard on the back. The unit looks like the dooyoo picture so a round plastic thing which is flat on the bottom for this to stand on. It's quite a slim line thing and not all that big and bulky, so you should find this is easy enough to prop on a shelf or tuck away somewhere if you so wish.

The scent from this is meant to last on average 4 weeks. The scent in this is Warm Cedar and Juicy Orange. I admit I wasn't able to smell this before I bought it, and with a name such as crystal Air I thought this would have been a lighter, fresher, airy kind of scent - perhaps with Water lilly or that. Perhaps I should have read the back of this before I bought it. The smell of this is nice however it's not the normal smell that I go for. I would say that the cedar is the main scent in here and it is a rich, warm scent. I can't say I smell the Juicy oranges much, but there is a slight fruity twist to this which breaks up the heavier scent of the Cedar.

This gives quite a strong scent when you first start using this, but after a few days i'm either more used to the scent or it gets a bit fainter but I can still smell this in the house and it is a nice enough scent.

I would buy 1 of these Air Fresheners again but will go for another scent next time.

A fantastic product that keeps nasty smells at bay.

Airwick Crystal Air is a piece of circular glass with a flat base and one side of the piece of glass is open and within this is filled with gel which contains perfume (amongst other things) to give out a scent which lasts for around four weeks and you can actually see the gel shrink when it's beginning to lose it's scent and this is ideal as it means that you won't waste your money buying a new one and opening the packet up before it's needed.

There are quite a few varieties of Crystal Air available including morning mist, berries & spice, relaxing, freesia & jasmine and there is usually seasonal ones at different time of the year such as a cinnamon based one at Christmas time and I love the Christmas scented one especially as it really does make me instantly think of Christmas.

The average price for these Crystal Airs is around £2.25 from Tesco stores or www.tesco.co.uk and I think that this is a very reasonable price.

The scent in these is pretty strong and I usually place one of these on the ledge in the bathroom and it's recommend to keep this away from aquatic environment so bear this in mind if you have a fish tank, also, this could be harmful to animals or small children if eaten and as it is glass it could be broken of course so take care where you place this. I do find that the gel shrinks very gradual and by the time I've noticed it I have already noticed that the scent is not as strong as it once was and I usually get a couple of extra weeks out of one of these (it's advised that it lasts for four weeks). I think that this is a very handy product and great for keeping whiffs & smells at bay, especially in the toilet or bathroom and I love all of the scents that are given off and would recommend any of the scents in the range.

I am rating Crystal Air 4/5 and if these were slightly cheaper I would have increased this to five stars.

While my parents are away on their travels for a year, my husband and I during a moment of complete madness offered to take on their house for them. To enable us to do this we are renting our one out. As a goodwill gesture Barry and I decided to take it upon ourselves to redecorate their house to help out. We had an ulterior motive though, dad is a smoker and as soon as you walk into their house the smell of nicotine slaps you in the face and the woodwork is a nasty shade of yellow. After a lick of paint the smell of nicotine was a lot less noticeable, but the smell of paint was still lingering. With a Halloween party planned a couple of weeks later, I didn?t want the smell still wafting through the house so I decided to fill the house with room fragrances to make it more welcoming. I only had 2 in the cupboard so when I went on my next shopping trip I came home armed with more ammunition to help remove those nasty niffs. Tesco were doing a BOGOF promotion on Air Wick Air Crystal so I decided to throw a few into my trolley. Although the price was the most important factor in my purchase decision, I also liked the look of these air freshners. The ones I normally buy are of the white plastic variety that looks unsightly if on display, and I?m not too keen on the plug-in versions as my son is now at the age where he likes to remove plugs from sockets. The air crystals are something completely different as they are made of glass and have a coloured gel on one side that releases a nice fragrance around your home. The gel has another purpose as well. Because it is coloured this gives an indication when the air crystal needs replacing. As time passes, the gel gradually shrinks letting you know how long before it runs out. The Air Crystals claim to last 4 weeks, but I have had mine for just over 2 now and there is no sign yet of it getting close to running out. You can find the Air Wick Air Crystals alongside all the other ro
om fragrances and air fresheners. They are packaged in a small cardboard wrapper and the Air Crystal protrudes out so a cutout circle enabling you to see what you are buying. The outer wrapping is decorated according to what fragrance you have chosen to purchase. In my case I have bought one of two limited edition fragrances introduced especially for the festive season. The mulled Wine I have gone for has a Christmas theme on the front using a festive garland going down one side and a pile of cinnamon sticks on the other. The Air Wick Logo takes centre stage above the actual air crystal. The aroma of the Mulled Wine air crystal really gives a Christmassy feel to your home. Most of the scents you would associate with Christmas can be picked out ? cloves, cinnamon and ginger but no turkey! The other Christmas fragrance is Snowy Cedars. This is a light green coloured gel that has a light floral scent with a hint of eucalyptus. Both of the limited edition scents have a star shape pattern on the glass. All the others have a wavy design. Other fragrances available are: Aquamarine, which is a blue gel with a fresh smell, which conjures up images of waterfalls. This one would go well in the bathroom. Berries and Spice is a vivid red gel, similar to the mulled wine version. This has a fruity smell with a subtle hint of spice. This smell is very welcoming so would go well in the hallway. Lavender as you would imagine has a purple gel, which gives off a relaxing aroma. This would be ideal for the bedroom to give a tranquil feeling. Peach Blush is an orange gel that smells gorgeous with the strong, but not overpowering scent of peach. And finally White Flowers, which has a nice subtle floral aroma. As the Air Crystals come in different colours and fragrances, you can choose the ones that compliment your decor. When removing the Air Crystal from the box there is a sticky protec
tive wrapper on the glass, which you need to peel off before use. Because these are made from glass it is wise to keep out of the reach of children in case they are dropped. Also because the gel is not concealed it is possible for young children to get to it and they may try and eat it. Again keep in a high position and this will be avoided. If however your child does swallow any it is advised that you seek medical attention right away and if possible take the package with you so that the doctors can see the ingredients. The Air crystal must not be placed on a varnished surface as it could get marked, and it should not be exposed to the sun, or any other heat source. As I mentioned earlier I bought my Air Crystals from Tesco and I paid £1.94 for each one, but they are widely available from other supermarkets and cost about the same price. If you have an eye for a bargain like me though, they can be found on special offer sometimes so it?s worth stocking up then. Even after use these glass air fresheners would come in handy for making light catchers. Simply use different coloured stain-glass window paint and you have a cheap ornament to hang in front of your windows. Also you could make a mobile for your child?s bedroom using lots of finished air crystals all painted different colours. This is a great way of keeping kids entertained during a miserable rainy day, so obviously my daughter cannot wait till they?re finished. There is a website you can visit where you can print off a 25p off voucher which you can use in any store selling Air Wick Air Crystals. Log onto www.airwick.com. You are required to fill in a short questionnaire and as soon as that?s done you?re ready to print off the coupon. Be quick though, they are only valid until the 17th of December.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

If you are a smoker many of you will know that smoking is almost irresistible when you are at the wheel of your car and especially if you are driving over long distances. However the interior of any automobile provides an ideal environment for the aroma of tobacco to lay siege and provide a rather unpleasant atmosphere for non-smokers. The smoker himself or herself has become so acclimatized to this smell and therefore it is very difficult for them to fully realize the full consequences of this. The only time that we are ever aware of that nasty aroma is when you first sit in your car in the morning and that only lasts for a few seconds before your nostrils get used to it. My wife has her own vehicle, which is absolutely smoke free, but on weekends we use my car for going out and after numerous complaints and grimaces of disgust, from my wife and children, I finally decided to do something about the smell that has become so incorporated into the confines of my car. On one of my routine visits to Tesco’s I came across a product that appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. This was the Haze Airwick Crystal Car Freshener. Since we were already familiar with the other Haze Air Freshener sprays, I picked this up without any hesitation whatsoever. The fact that it only cost £1.97 made it easier. This car freshener is available in two variations. One was the Anti-Tobacco type and the other the Citrus type. Naturally the Anti-Tobacco one was the type I purchased. It is presented on a convenient blister card packing, with each variation in a different shade. The Anti-Tobacco type is in a mint green colour and is easy to place anywhere in the car. The giant conglomerate company Reckitt & Coleman produce Haze Airwick Crystal Car Freshener, awell as the other Haze/Airwell range of fresheners. The quality level of the product is therefore more strongly assertained. According to
the makers the lasting power is 4 weeks and this is due to the gel used having 80% perfume content. As far as the 4-week period is concerned I will have to wait to verify that since I have been using it for just less than two weeks now. However since the last two weeks its fragrancing qualities are still almost as good as when I first put it in, so I confidently expect it to last the whole four weeks. Regarding the 80% perfume, for this we would have to take the makers word for it, but I am also quite confident since they are Reckitt & Coleman, who are generally renowned for high quality products and providing factual information. As mentioned earlier I have been using this for two weeks now and it has made a significant improvement. Now I avoid smoking as much as possible in my car and when I do have the occasional one, especially on longer drives, I make sure the front two windows are down. When I first put it in the fragrance was really very strong and for the first couple of days it was rather irritating. Gradually as the freshener started doing its work the fragrance has become completely tolerable and quite pleasant. The label indicates that the fragrances are warm cedar combined with juicy orange. Well I can certainly smell the cedar but “juicy orange” – sorry no. The smell is a woody and a musky one and wouldn’t really be out of place in a body deodorant. It does have a slight hint of something sharp, which is probably the “juicy orange” that they are talking about. In any case it has helped considerably in removing the smell of tobacco. I am not sure if the smell would resuface if I was to discontinue using it but I am more than certain that it would not be as bad. Naturally it has not gone completely and this will be expected after years of smoking. The confines of a car are something that need to be kept in good condition and that includes the air. This is es
pecia lly the case for non-smokers. It is unlike an office or a room where you can easily leave the premises or due to the extra space the concentration levels of smoke are less. This is a small space and when people get into it they are more than likely going to have to remain in that space for some period of time and without any luxury of movement. Therefore it is essential that you think about using products like this. Overall I have been very impressed with the results and the wife and children are also much more happier accompanying me in my car now. The fact that I have also curtailed smoking in the car has also helped tremendously. If anyone of you still smoke in your car I would suggest that you stop completely or reduce and most certainly get yourself some of these car fresheners. At just under two quid each they make a life much easier and much more comfortable for all concerned.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

As most of you know we have just moved to our new home in Llandudno and we are now busy doing the first phase of the work needed on the house. One of the most important jobs has been to have an ensuite bathroom built in mom and dad's bedroom on the ground floor. Part of the work has entailed the skimming of plasterboard partitions. This has caused an unpleasant smell as the plaster has dried out, which in turn has permeated into the guest bedroom directly above. So, it was with this problem in mind that I was wandering round Tesco's looking for a suitable solution. They stock quite a good range of air fresheners from spray to solid and from gel to plug ins. I took a good look at the various types and evaluated the fragrances; cost and perceived effectiveness and I chose Air Wick from Haze in the White Flowers fragrance on special offer at a cost of £2.49 instead of the usual £4.99. The box allegedly contained an 'adjustable plug in unit and refill' so I thought that this would be the best value as it contained two lots of fragrance. OK so I was wrong - the box actually contained the unit with one container of fragrance. Maybe it's just me but I would have assumed a 'refill' to be the one that you put in after the first one is finished. Oh well, never mind, compared to the other ones that they had on sale this one was still good value. All I had to do was take the top off the fragrance bottle, insert the bottle into the plastic plug in thingy, plug it into the socket and switch it on. There are five different settings imaginatively numbered one to five, with one being the setting for the lightest amount of fragrance and five being the one for the strongest. Ours is set at three and is just right. So what did it actually smell like then? I'm glad you asked that because I was just about to tell you. The ingredients that go to make up the perfume for this air
freshener are Lily of the Valley, Jasmine and White Roses and the blend is very pleasant indeed, and it is supposed to last for 75 days. I grant you that estimate is based on 10 hours use per day on setting one so ours won?t last that long. It does tell you to unplug the air freshener during the night but I have to confess that we have left ours on constantly to rid the room of the damp plaster smell before our first houseguests arrive at the weekend and I have to say the guest bedroom now smells very nice indeed. When the fragranced liquid is finally used up then all you do is press the bottle release button on the plug in, remove the empty bottle and replace with a new one. In fact I was so impressed with ours that I got one for mom and dad's lounge whilst they were still on special offer, again to remove a wet plaster smell after our builders had nailed through a central heating pipe and the contents of the central heating system had drained through the lounge ceiling! Oh well, that's what you get for buying an older house I guess???? In conclusion I would say that I am impressed with the product for the price that I paid, but I certainly wouldn't pay the full price of £4.99 for it.

You may find this weird, an 18 year old boy writting a positive review for an air freshner But in all honesty its one of the greatest things I own in my bedroom! Recently my room had started to stink. I have a typical teenagers bedroom, clothes everywhere, dusty and in general the whole room is a mess, combined the bad smell you get from that lot with the smell of my stinking feet and my uncleaned football boots and you will understand what Haze is up against My mum decided I really needed some airfreshner for my room, so gave me a bottle of Haze, its a 2in1, it says on the bottle that it Neutralises Odurs and Fragrances the air. Now the bottle we have is PEach and Jasmine, whatever Jaminse is :confused Anyway whatever comes out of this bottle is amazing! I just spray it round the room, and the horriable smell has gone and I am left with this glorious smell of peaches. But the thing is it stays like that for hours! Sadly I have no idea how muc hthis product costs, as obviously Im a teenage boy, so never buy this product :) but I have to give it a 5 star rating as it totally changes my room! Its make it feel more bright and like the summer. If you have a child whos room smells buy them this, thats an order ;)

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

My boyfriend and I are both quite heavy smokers which can cause a strange and quite unpleasant smell in our house, which is noticed especially when we walk back in from outside, it hits you when you walk in the door. I have tried many different air fresheners and when I first spray them yes they smell great, but fifteen minutes later I cant smell even a hint of what I sprayed, and its back to the smell of smoke. I was in my corner shop last week when I spotted Haze Anti-tobacco air freshener and decided to give it a go. It cost me 1.00 which I thought was quite reasonable, especially if it actually works. Haze Anti-tobacco air freshener comes in a 300ml bright yellow and orange can and it states on the can that it should smell like Cedar and Orange. I sprayed it around my house and made myself a coffee and sat down to read the newspaper. An hour later I got up and walked around my house and guess what? I could still smell it, quite strongly in fact which I thought was great as it had already outlasted all of the many air fresheners I had tried in the past. The can was right it did smell of cedar and orange which is a very pleasant smell. This air freshener is made in Britain by : Reckitt Benckis (uk) Ltd. Delta 1200, Welton Road, Delta Business Park, Swindon, SN5 7XZ. Tel-01793 732000 All in all I give this air freshener a 10/10. It does exactly what it says on the can and eliminates tobacco odours fast. Coincidently I could still smell the air freshener about 5 hours after I intially sprayed it, which I think is fantastic as it is the only thing that stops my home from smelling like an Ash-tray. So if your house is anything like mine and smells a bit smokey then I can definitly recommend you try this and I dont think you will be disappointed.

Not really much I can say about air freshener except that they're designed to smell nice enough, and this one does. So, hey I guess I recommend it! The 300ml spray can I'm reviewing has quite a refreshingly fruity smell (though a tiny bit overpowering to me, as most are to me) ideal for rejuvenating damp or smelly air. The 2 in 1 action neutralises odours as you'd expect, and fragrances the air - um, I think it's the same thing, but I know the difference. They should've worded it differently. The can comes in orange with a picture of Peach & Jasmine (no Laura, not your cat!) and instructions in English and Russian on directions of use, safety info and caution. Plus big logos like 'Extremely Flammable' and 'Solvent Abuse Can Kill Instantly'! And it has a barcode. I forgot how much it costs, but it's probably only about £3/4. And um, that's it really. If you can think of anything more I can say about air freshener let me know. Anoraks leave me alone.

How can this happen, two months ago I wrote a list of opinions I wanted to write and so far I've written??. None !! Why is this, well because everybody here keeps requesting me to do opinions on things, a number of things I know nothing about, and here I am again !! Lets tell you about this one then. After my last op Sue26 asked me to do an opinion on air fresheners because of something about wanting to get rid of the smell of nappies, and would I Doo it, well of course for the lovely yorkie I couldn't resist. But, after one of our spelling lessons, misslook E Mailed me and said she felt my house an hour ago. I knew she had left my house, but this reference to felt meant I knew she had been on my roof, because there is in fact some work that needs doing there. While asking misslook why she was in fact on my roof, she said she wasn't coming down until I suggested a new subject for her opinion, so it was agreed that we complete a challenge on air fresheners, so here we are. This is not a back patting exercise, nor an attempt to gain Dooyoo miles, just for fun really. People seem to have forgotten that Dooyoo should be fun, certain people have seemed intent on wrecking the site this weekend, and this should not be. Also, seriously, how many people read other ops with the specific purpose of buying something, let's see. I've read say 2,620 opinions in three months and at say £20 a time as some of those were on cars that would be approximately £52,500, have I got that much, my bank manager says no !! Anyone else putting their hand up yet ?? On with the op, I don't really want to win the challenge, nor care, just for fun. If I do, then please make sure at least one of misslook's ops gets 75 reads, because she is very talented and charming. I'm sure she will enlist the help of indigojade who is decorating and may require some air freshener for the paint, so I'm retaining the services of aforementioned yorkie, S
ue26. To ensure that fair play is done, and no other outside assistance is used, at great expense I have flown over gbopotts from Greensboro, North Carolina, U.S.A. As you know, he is 6 feet 7 inches tall (sure I haven't given him another inch this time) he will be able to observe us both at work, and ensure we are not doing this for the miles, he is your special Dooyoo invigilator. He has requested some Blues music to keep him entertained, so we have Cream playing "Badge", just for him. Right, here we go. Sue26 is jumping up and down with joy, she's doing the bargain hunting again. Sitting here with the nappies, and me smoking, a good air freshener is required. She is going to Wilkinsons, always a good source for value products, and I've especially asked her to look at the Haze range. Haze is manufactured by Reckitt and Colman Products Limited, Danson Lane, Hull, HU8 7DS, United Kingdom of course for the benefit of gbopotts and others. Telephone Number 01482 326151. All their cans contain 300ml of air freshener, and the caps are colour coded to define the contents. Sue26 has just returned with one which she paid 78p for. This one has a yellow cap and it is for... Eliminating Tobacco Odours, what a sensible girl she is. The can itself is mostly yellow, with a green label saying Anti Tobacco, is there a message in this ?? Other warnings on the can say Extremely Flammable and also Solvent Abuse Can Kill Instantly, perhaps this is what some of the idiots on the site have been using this weekend !! The instructions on the can are in three languages, which is handy if you can speak them, and the printing is also small, so use a magnifying glass. Right, let's use it. Directions for use, Shake well. I've jumped up and down and nothing has happened. Well I'll rattle the can then !! Yes, there is something in there. Spray into the air away from the body. This is important. I have found that some of thes
e sprays can be quite strong and may affect your throat, so I'm wearing a gas mask at the moment. This one says it smells of Cedar and Orange, that's funny I thought you made furniture with cedar and ate oranges but still !! Anyway, little squirt, and it smells of ... cedar and oranges, but how would you know if you hadn't previously sniffed a cedar tree ?? Words of caution now, use this only as directed, and the canister is pressurised. Do not spray onto surfaces, food or fabrics, as if I'd be that silly, this product is an air freshener and should not be used for any other purposes. Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Centigrade. Right, done that, don't see any point in giving a can of air freshener a sun tan anyway. Next !! Extremes of temperature can occur in motor cars, near ovens, and fireplaces, so keep the can away from hot surfaces, naked flames and source of ignition. No Smoking. Do not spray near any incandescent material such as an electric fire. Cor, that was a good read, do you know that somebody has got the job of writing this stuff on air freshener cans, wonder if his mum knows about it ?? Finally, do not pierce or burn the can after use. Oh and keep out of the reach of children, well there's no children here trying to reach me so that's all right then innit ?? I must say this product does remove the smell of tobacco, and probably nappies. Gbopotts confirms no cheating has occurred, so I hope you will all now go and spend 78p on a can of Haze, say ANDREWSJK sent you, but don't come back to me if the assistant gives you a funny look. !! Lastly, let misslook win the challenge, this is for fun. And as of now the score is :- ANDREWSJK 40 misslook 28 Come on you lot, vote for her !!

                      Disadvantages

Our household consists of my mum, two Siamese cats and me. Cats who like to hunt, and drink water from ponds, and then get stomach upsets and then throw up on your bed and make a smell in the litter box which will eventually cause evacuation of the house. At these times I like to pull the haze 2 in 1 out of the cupboard and get to work with some serious smell evacuation. The majority of the time our house doesn’t really smell. The only real odour our home possesses is that of cigarette smoke (my mum is a heavy smoker and I also smoke the odd ten). Although this doesn’t affect us when we have non-smoking visitors around we do like to try and make the effort. I have found that haze does actually do what it says on the can, its gets rid of the smell and leaves behind a pleasant if slightly to clean (perhaps almost medical) scent. The variety we use is the air freshener for homes with pets. As far as I can tell it really does work. Although I don’t notice that my cats smell they probably do, I have just got used to it. Much like the smell of my room. Yet again I do not notice this smell, my mum does. I think it’s the piles of worn clothes dotted around my room, which radiate this lovely aroma. Again the haze comes in handy, I don’t get any complaints about the smell if I use the spray, though I still get told to tidy up the mess. The place I find that haze works best is where I mentioned it at the beginning. It doesn’t matter how well you clean out a litter tray, if a cat has had diarrhea you will know about it for the next three hours. It is a smell that lingers. Thankfully haze can help irradiate the stench in little over ten minutes, which as far as I am concerned is a pretty god job. Overall haze 2 in 1 air freshener for homes with pets is a good cover up smell and I believe it does really help disperse the odour. I don’t know whether everyone would like the smell but anything’s bet
ter than sweaty socks and cat sick!!

I rarely take notice of the adverts on TV as what usually happens is I flick over to another channel just to avoid being brain washed. But somewhere in the not too distant past I must have seen the advert for Haze Fresh’n Up because for some strange reason whilst doing my weekly shop in Asda I spotted the air freshener on the shelf and decided that getting rid of cigarette smoke would be advantageous in my new home. Made in France for Reckitt & Colman Products Ltd., the arrowhead shaped bottle contains 375 ml of liquid that comes in a variety of flavours, (or should that be fragrancies?) at a cost of £1.58. According to the advert the evil smell of cigarette smoke would be sent packing and replaced with a pleasant fragrance. My choice of Cedar & Orange would, I thought, be pleasant enough so I grasped the bottle firmly around the middle and placed it in my trolley. Once home I read the instructions very carefully, unscrewed the cap and pulled up the wick to its fullest extent and set it up on the mantelpiece and settled back to hopefully witness the evil smell of smoke disappear from the room. No such apparition appeared nor did a slick chic to wave it goodbye and neither did the smell of smoke. OK it was a bit much for me to expect instant action so come bedtime I left a smoke filled room with my new acquisition in place so that it could work overnight. Come the morning there was a distinct lack of the smell of smoke and the very faintest fragrance of Cedar & Orange. So I guess that it does work but not as well as the advert implied or I expected. But then when I got up I had put on my cynical head instead of the trusting one so I was obviously looking for failure. The instructions on the bottle also state that to increase the strength of the fragrance the user has to close the bottle, give it a good shake and re-open and pull up the wick to its fullest extent. I didn’t notice any appreciable difference after
following the instructions to the letter but then I have a 64 years old nose with the fragrance receptors dulled by years of smoking and breathing in noxious fumes spewed out by motor vehicles. Finally with only using the deodoriser when I go to bed and at half wick for seven nights, the level of the liquid has dropped by about 2 cms, which simple arithmetic tells me will make the bottle last some six weeks at that rate of usage. So I guess that it is just about worth the cost except that opening a window and peeling an orange has just the same effect. Could get mighty cold in winter though.

I like to have nice smells around the house and have tried loads of different air freshners. The sprays, plug in's, the ornamental ones, pot pourri, you name it, I've tried it. There are two smokers in my house. I have tried the anti-tobacco Haze Fresh n up and found it quite effective. It's not as good as a spray though as I found the aroma did not travel further than the room it was in. You would need one for every room to completely destroy the odour. I also have a small dog. I have always been told that you can never smell that "doggy wiff" in my house but I thought I would try the Fresh n up for homes with pets, I quite liked the smell. (I'm one of those in the supermarket that stands and smells everything before I buy it). I got it home and put it in the dining room. My computer is in there too, so that's where I spend most of my time. It was only in there for a couple of hours and you could smell it as soon as you entered the room. It was quite strong so I lowered the wick a little. After about three days I started to get a little short of breath when I was in the room and very tight chested. I am mildly asthmatic and kept thinking I had an attack coming on. Six days past and I began to get very slight pains in my chest and was becomming quite worried. I could not think what it was as I had not had an attack for some time. The next day I did the housework. On sorting out the dining room I picked up the Fresh n up and shook it. When I re-opened the lid, a "woosh" of the smell came rushing out at me. I took my breath away. I got the pain in my chest again and immediately realised what had been causing the problem. I had not considered this to be the cause as I had smelt it in the supermarket but obviously prolonged exposure to the liquid had gradually taken it's toll. I read the packaging to see what chemicals it was constructed of but i
t did not say. There was obviously something in there that was not in the others and did not agree with me. It was the first time I had experienced this with any air freshner. Needless to say I got rid of it immediately. The shortness of breath and the chest pains stopped. (I'm not on my way out after all). I've decided to stick to my favorite way of making the house smell good. I use oil burners. You can water them down to create the atmosphere you desire and there are so may to choose from you can also suit your mood. Haze fresh n up does work but I wonder what I was breathing in. It may be helpful for them to include a list of ingredients. I am only a mild asthma sufferer and I dred to think what it would be like for someone with a chronic breathing condition.

My hubby has a backside that smells of peach and Jasmine. Not normally of course but it does once I've sprayed near him! When up against a powerful smell of rotten eggs or sage and onion (yes we have that smell after eating Sunday lunch) we need something powerful to neutralise it. Haze comes in a variety of fragrances but I chose Haze, Peach & Jasmine because, well, my bathroom is Peach so it matches...lol It claims to neutralise odours and fragrance the air with the sweet smell of Peaches and Jasmine, and that it does. Although if hubby has eaten something particularly strong then it doesn't always overpower it, but it is the best that I've come across so far. It comes in a 300ml aerosol spray, with a lovely design of, guess what...peaches and jasmine! Now if you have a hubby like mine, you will normally get a warning of horrid smells to come by the expression on his face of total innocence and a sudden need to evacuate the room. This is when you need quick action and Haze gives you that. There is no top to remove so you can grab the can and spray quickly and painlessly. • Instructions for use: 1. When hubby pulls that innocent expression and squirms slightly, reach for the can. 2. Cover nose. 3. Watch in amusement as hubby breaks into sweat at sight of can. 4. As he jumps up from the chair to evacuate room, aim the can where he was sitting and push button. 5. Sit back and relax in the soothing aroma of your choice... You should never spray onto "surfaces, food or fabrics" states the back of the can. Apart from all the usual warnings about solvent abuse and flames it also says "This product is an air freshener and must not be used for any other purpose." Like what?! The can has a powerful spray, which can travel some distance, and the smell lasts a fair while, which is great when hubby is being rather frequent. If you
spray upwards be sure to move out of the way as it comes back down in fine droplets rather quickly and you'll end up smelling of it too. It's a big can as I've said and considering how often it gets used it lasts a very long time, months even. As I said there are other aromas and I too have a can of Haze that neutralises cigarette smells. We don't smoke but our living room still gives off a cigarette smell in the morning from the previous owners, despite redecoration and cleaning the carpet. That also works but I don't like the smell much so have gone back to just opening the windows! So if you have a hubby like mine that can't take his onions, leaving a room with air so thick you could cut through it with a knife then use Haze to fight your way through... Love you hubby, smells and all...

I have used both the anti tobacco, and the anti pet smells Haze Fresh'n'up. They really do tackle nasty dog smells, and cigarette smells. My only concern is that when this lid is at full stretch, the bottle is not very stable. You must make sure, that you keep it somewhere well out of reach, as an open window caused a gust of wind to knock the blue anti pet Fresh'n'up over by accident. The blue liquid has soaked into a pine side unit and stained it. I have tried various things to get it out but no luck! Overall this is a very effective odour eliminator, I just think that the design needs to be re-thought.
