The scales are part of the Colourmatch range which is available from Argos, both online and in store and they retail at £12.99.
Despite the low price tag, the glass is quite chunky and it gives them a quality feel and they don't feel like they would break when I stand upon them. The glass plate measures 30cm x 30cm so they are quite a decent size. To the top of the scales is a little LED display which shows you your weight, this can be either in stones or KG (you can change by switching a little button on the underside) I prefer to use stones.
Before standing on the scales, they have to be activated, the instructions advise you to tap them slightly, wait for the LED display to set to zero and then get on them, I find the best way to 'wake them up' is to actually push the top of them slightly with my foot and then get on. When I stand on the scales, they automatically start to calculate my weight, once it has balanced out, my weight flashes on the screen and stays there for about 30 seconds before disappearing however if I step off the scales, this disappears within around 5 seconds.
The LED display is operated by a little cell button battery which is included in the price, we have only had the scales around a month so I cant really comment yet on how long these last however the scales do have an auto shut-off when not in use so if they are anything like the scales I have at home, these should be quite long lasting.
So far, I have found the scales to be pretty accurate and inline with what my home scales say (which I found to be reliable in the past), I try to keep them in same place on the floor as with the caravan floor being made from wood (and has a carpet on top), there is a bit of difference if I move these around however I think this is more to do with the flooring rather than the quality of the scales. It is worth noting that the scales do have a maximum eight usage of just under 24stone (approx. 150kg).
So far, I am quite happy with the scales and I would definitely recommend, they would get 5 out of 5 stars from me.
After a review slating my Salter scales a few weeks back the awful thing broke on me last week. I contacted Salter who wouldn't replace it without a receipt which I no longer have so I threw it out and went for a different make this time as I have had two Salter scales break on me!
These scales cost me £12.99 in Argos. They have a variety of colours including black, pink, blue and green. I chose the blue which is more like a teal colour.
The scales are digital and require 1 cell battery which is included.
The scales are really nice looking in fact they are the best looking scales I have ever owned! The platform is made from toughened glass and is very slimline looking. The colour of the scales is bright and the LCD screen is a decent size for reading.
The capacity for these scales is 150kg or 23st9lb.
Inside the box is a one page instruction leaflet which tells you to pull the tab from the battery case before first use. To use the scales you need to tap them gently with your foot, wait for the screen to load this takes seconds and then step on. The weight remains displayed until you step off after which time it disappears quite quickly. There are some warnings about not placing standing on the scales with wet feet!! and also taking care not to get the scales wet.
The scales can display weight in pounds, stone and kilograms. There is a button on the underside which you need to press to get it to record your weight in your preferred measurement.
Before I bought this I read several reviews, most were good but a few people were complaining about off readings when they were using it on carpet! now it does state in the instructions this needs to be placed on a level hard surface. It also tells you that if you get two readings your weight will be in the middle of the two. I have to say I have weighed myself a few times in different places and always got the same result.
Overall I am pleased with these scales, I like the look of them and they are excellent value for money as well as being accurate.
I would give this scales full marks, I have owned two scales that cost 3 times as much as this one and haven't looked as expensive, this is a great scales.
I've recently been trying to lose a little bit of weight as University has made me really lazy with my cooking and it's taken its toll on my weight! I thought that by buying some bathroom scales I could monitor my weight and actually keep track of how much I was losing (or how much I was gaining!).
I bought these from Argos for £12.99. I think the price is about right - I wouldn't have wanted to pay anymore, but I don't think I would get anything decent for less.
These scales look really nice - they are part of the colour match collection so they come in a variety of colours along with a host of other bathroom and bedroom items so you can decorate your house so that it all matches. I chose purple (or purple fizz as they call it) as I already have a desk lamp in the colour match range and they look really good together in my room. It's a really nice deep purple and it's really shiny. I would definitely say it looks a lot fancier than it is - I think it looks really expensive!
To weigh yourself you tap the scale and once the display shows 0:00 (about 3 seconds) you can hop on. You can weigh yourself in kilograms or stones and pounds - to switch between the two there is a little button on the bottom of the scales.
In terms of durability, I think these scales will hold up pretty well! They've already survived two house moves without any form of protective packaging. They are made of glass so do be careful with them even though the feel quite sturdy. They are quite heavy so if you have room for them, leave them out because it is annoying having to lift it out of the cupboard every time I want to weigh myself.
I'm going to give them 5/5 - there are more fancy scales with better functions, but I just wanted to simply weigh myself and for the price they are pretty good and they look great.
The one thing ever since I have been an adult I have owned is a pair of bathroom scales. I have got through numerous of them though I have to admit having been a bulimia suffering and seeming to have spent too much time attached to a pair in recent years!
Recently I have been sorting out my bathroom and saw my old scruffy scales shoved up the corner and they didn't match my bright pink colour scheme at all and so I took to my trusty Argos catalogue to see if there was anything in there that took my fancy and there was, quite a few things actually but these were the ones I was looking for in my mind so at £12.99 I reserved them and went and grabbed the last ones available from my local store.
They came in a mainly white coloured box, made up and ready to be used. They have a watch style battery in them already to which all I had to do was pull a tiny piece of plastic out of where the battery was and voila they were ready to use. There is an instruction booklet in the box but seriously it really isn't needed apart from to reference what battery you need!
So these measure H29, W28, D2.2cm and weigh people up to 23 stones 9lbs. They comes in different colour options to such as green, blue, purple and my option the funky fuschia option.
The top of the scales is made from clear and smooth safety glass and that covers the bright pink colour and to the top of the scales there is a smallish lcd unit and under that we are told the maximum weight that can stand on it in kg, pounds and stones quite clearly in neat white writing.
To use the scales you simply give them a tap with your foot, the lcd shows in black writing the number 8 5 times then its ready to stand on and get the bad news lol! There is a small button to the bottom of the scales which is very simple to use by pushing it to select how you see your weight and that can be in stones and pounds, just pounds or kg's.
These are not only safe due to the tempered safety glass but they are sturdy to. The base has 4 small rounded feet to the edges of them and of course the underside is where you change the battery. After a few seconds of not using them these also have an auto switch mechanism which is great for not wearing down the batteries as well.
I really like these easy to use and great looking and quality scales. I didn't think for the money they would be as good as they are but they really are though I do not like what they tell me I weigh one bit lol. They do need to be on a flat surface of course or they weigh me all wrong but that's my fault and not the scales.
I wouldn't hesitate is recommending these at all. Its not often you find something so well made, nice looking and functional and whats another nice thing about these scales is that they are part of the Argos Colur Match range which means this economy line does many great household items which match up to these. I now have the toilet seat and the towels which is great for someone who likes matching items!
Thumbs up once again for another great Argos Colour Match Item!
