An good budget buy from Argos, with the option to match with other Colour Match items

I had my last baby at home, after planning a VERY last minute home birth - we'd only moved in 2 weeks previously (yes, I'm a bit crazy!). Like all recent movers we had hardly any towels as we took the opportunity of moving to chuck away all our tatty old non-matching towels. This was a big mistake as with a home birth you need as many tatty, old non-matching towels you can find! So we decided to buy some cheap new towels for the purpose of the birth, thinking we could chuck them afterwards if necessary without losing too much. We went to faithful old Argos, and got a few pairs of their Colour Match bath sheets. They were originally £11.99 but at the time reduced to £8 - and £4 per towel seems very reasonable! The Colour Match range at Argos covers a variety of affordable products across many catagories, including kitchenware, bathroom items, bedding etc. and everything is meant to match - though I can't vouch for how well the things match as we chose Jet Black. Other colours in the range include Funky Fuschia, Purple Fizz, Poppy Red, True Purple, Lagoon, Fiesta Blue, Ocean Blue, Apple Green, Chocolate, Cream and Super White - so something for everyone. Colour Match products are also often on a 3 for 2 offer, which makes them even more affordable. The bath sheets are 100% cotton, a generous size at 140 x 90cm and (for the price) a reasonable weight of 420gsm - which indicates the amount of grams per square metre. Low GSM towels are usually 300-400gsm and quite thin, whereas high GSM tends to be 450-600 for a thicker towel - so these are a good "medium" towel in terms of thickness. Personally I do find them fairly thin compared to my other M&S and Christy towels (which are more than double the price), but they are more than absorbent enough and being thinner allows them to air dry quicker, so not necessarily a bad thing! The towels are not the softest - but then I struggle to get any towels soft unless I tumble dry them. Which reminds me that not many people know that you aren't meant to use fabric softener on towels, as it coats the fibres and makes them less absorbent! It does make for a scratchy towel when air dried though. Before using the towels for the first time, it's recommended to wash them first to prevent getting excess fibres stuck to you - but we'd have done that anyway seeing as we were using them for a baby's birth. So we washed and dried them, and folded them in a pile ready for when the day came. However, in the end we didn't use them as there was far less mess than expected during the birth, and I used one of my regular towels for my post-birth shower! Over the next few days though, we did of course use them, and all I can say is THANK GOODNESS we didn't use them for the birth! They were shedding everywhere! And still, 8 months later, after numerous washes, I get black fibres stuck on me after a bath/shower - perhaps a lighter colour would be less obvious. Despite that though, they don't seem to have thinned or become patchy and actually washed very well. Considering the fact they are black, they haven't faded at all in 8 months and we don't use any fancy detergent for colours. Overall I would highly recommend these towels as a budget buy (especially if you can get a sale price or 3 for 2), especially if you are a large family and need lots of towels, or starting out in your first home, or a student.

        Not for me!

When I first moved into my own flat I badly needed towels to which my Mother bought me. I had my heart set as a single woman on the colourscheme of my bathroom being bright pink as I had seen the Colour Match range of products in Argos, add to that the prices were great. My mum bought me these to go with the matching towel bale and I was really pleased with them...at first! These measure Size L140, W90cm and all I can say about them is that they are really large and really wide and easily wrap around even a large body! They comes in packs of two as I have already mentioned and not only in the Funky Fuschia colourthat I opted for but also in Super White, Apple Green, Aqua, Ocean Blue, Poppy Red, Purple Fizz, Lagoon and Jet Black, so really there is something from this range to suit most bathrooms! These are fully machine washable and tumble dry safe but not suitable for ironing however I have to sadly report that after just a few washes just on 30c washes these faded really badly. After a year of using them and washing them often they have lost the initial soft bounce that the cotton first had and they have gone a bit thin and the colour has faded so badly the only bit that hasn't lost its colour is the side of each towel has a a thick, flat border and that's stayed intact whihc looks quite odd against the rest of the faded towel! They only cost £11.99 for a pack of two of them and initially I loved them, especially the rich, vibrant colour of them but sadly due to fading bad almost from the get go they now need replacing really badly so I cannot recommend these! Only available from Argos stores.
