Asda offer more expensive foil platters but the Smart Price platters are a purse friendly option. Basically, you get 4 foil platters which are simply packaged in a clear wrapper with the familiar Smart Price green and white label on the front. The platters are approx 35cm in length and around 15cm in width.
A pack of 4 platters can be bought in store or from www.asda.com. They are priced at £1.50. The more expensive platters are £3.25 for a pack of 2.
When it comes to preparing a buffet, I would much rather buy disposable plates and platters for the food to sit on. This saves time when it comes to doing the washing up! I started off buying the foil platters from my local Poundland but when I needed them on the last two occasions, they were out of stock. I headed to Asda and purchased the Smart Price platters.
These platters are a bargain price and look decent enough. They are silver in colour, shiny and simply a smooth oval shape. The middle part of the platter is slightly raised and the outer 'border' is indented which makes carrying them very easy. These platters aren't the thickest so cannot really be overloaded with heavy food unless you do not plan on moving them! They are a good size for a small buffet.
I have used these on two occasions now. The first being my sons birthday last year. I was due to have 25 guests for the birthday boys tea party. The second occasion was for our Halloween party last year. I found 4 platters to be more than enough for each party as I only used them for presenting certain food. Crisps, sweets and salads were presented in bowls. The platters did look lovely when filled up with food and appeared to be secure and stable as I carried them from the kitchen to the living room when the food was already on them. Warm food didn't cause any greasy residue to pass through the foil which I appreciated.
These platters are very versatile. I used them for displaying sandwiches and could fit two rows of triangular sandwiches along each platter - very neat and tidy with room around the edges still. I also chose to use the platters for warm sausage rolls (I could fit around 50 or so on and still have plenty of room left), cupcakes and slices of meat and tomato. They were also ideal for the mound of nibbles my Mum had prepared (cocktail stick with sausage, cheese cubes and onions). These platters are also ideal for pakora and other warm foods.
I can't really fault the quality of these platters given the price. They are stronger than they look and are excellent for a party at home - I would recommend something a bit fancier and stronger if having a party in a hall or pub. I prepared most of the food the morning of my sons party and wrapped the platters in tin foil and cling film. I disposed off these after using them (they fold down neatly to be put in the bin) but they could be washed over and re-used should you want to.
Overall these are a worthwhile purchase and one which I will happily make again in the near future!
