~~*~~ Asda Smartprice Throw ~~*~~
My house has been designed with my family in mind - wipe-down paint on the walls, leather sofas, non-slip floors, the kitchen has minimum points for chewing and the fire is a wall heater to insure tails and whiskers aren't burnt - my family consists of me and two Labradors. Unfortunately, we're not the cleanest bunch - I often come in from work covered in mud as do the girls and although I do have a warm water hosepipe outside, not all the dirt is washed off, thus the floor and sofa do tend to get a wee bit muddy.
~*~ Throw in the towel ~*~
Instead of having to clean the sofas every time guests (mother and/or neighbour (I'm not really that popular)) come round, I choose to use throws as these are easily dragged off and thrown in the washer. I've never had a problem with washing these - I have 6 (I did have 8 but 2 were destroyed by puppy Oink) and they've faded a tiny bit as I can tell the newer ones, but the quality of them remains. The best thing is that I can have them washed and tumble-dried within the hour as they dry so quick.
~*~ Thrown together ~*~
The throw measures 122cm x 152 cm and I have a two and a three seater settee - the throw fits along the sitting area of the 3 seater and goes over the arms of the 2. I then throw another over the back of the sofa to ensure that mud is kept on the blankets though sometimes because I'm getting a little soft in my old age, I do tuck the girls in so that they're snug as little bugs. When I'm feeling a little peaky after a few too many cocktails, I like to snuggle up with the girls under a couple of these blankies (the clean ones - I'm not that much of a dirty cow) and they're pretty good at keeping us warm - don't get me wrong they're not particularly thick but they're just right for a hideous hot flush hangover. They come in 3 colours: cream, red and brown so the obvious choice for me was the dark chocolate brown.
~*~ Thrown away ~*~
At the risk of annoying my father, these throws are so cheap they're ace for the dogs and can be thrown away without breaking the bank. They're from Asda and last time I bought the lot as they were on offer for 2 for £3 (my friends all have dogs so you can guess what they got for Christmas) though the general price is £2.87 - absolute bargain. The packaging isn't particularly attractive as it's the usual white background with green writing on, however, remove the wrap and replace it with a lovely ribbon bow and your friends will think you bought them a lovely present.
These throws are great - you can wash them to your heart's content, buy 6 for under a tenner and wrap yourself up on those 'never drinking again' days.

You can't beat a good throw, I dont mean with a ball or stick I mean a material throw. They used to be very much the rage to put over sofas or across the bottom of your bed to make them look sophisticated, and I will admit to having done this, I still put a throw across my sofa if we are having company, just to make it look a bit nicer more than anything. Throws are also great as blankets; I have lots of these, in cream, red, purple, pink and brown. I have a few because we do not have spare a spare quilt, if and when we have the kids friends stay over the night, we bring out the throws and once they are wrapped up in three/four of these, they are not getting cold! They come rolled up tightly and closed with the George Smart Price lable from Adsa, all green and white. You can throw these in the washing machine and tumble dry them according to the lable but I have tended to wash them gently by hand instead.
They are nice to snuggle up in on the sofa as well, over your legs to keep them warm, they are soft and fleecy and very warm. I have found that they lose their shape after a while though, they are not quite as rectangular as they used to be they are also going a bit bobbly but they are still warm and ok for a bit of extra heat. They measure 122cm x 152cm when new, but this will differ after a few washes. The red one (my sons favourite) is fraying at the edges too. It hasn't stopped him loving it and using it regularly but they are a bit ropy in the making. They are only £2 each so I don't expect the world from them but I think they are coming to the end of their life. Time for some new ones I think.
I am quite a softy when it comes to my animals and I don't like to think of my dogs being cold so I out them a fleece blanket in their cage, not wanting to spend too much since they like to chew I buy them the Smartprice fleece throw.
The blankets cost £2.77 each which seems good value but last year they were selling them at 2 blankets for £3 so it is actually quite high in comparison. The blankets come in three different colours cream, brown and red. I always go for the dark brown colour as it doesn't look dirty as quick as the red and I wouldn't even consider the cream for dogs to use.
The blanket is rolled up when you buy it and it is wrapped with a piece of string papwer sellotaped to stop it opening, the label has the usual green and white of the Smartprice range on it and it tells you the size of the blanket which is 110cm x 150cm perfect for putting in the bottom of the dogs cage.
The blanket is lovely and soft and I would quite happily use these blankets for the people in the house aswell as the dogs, I have washed the blankets a couple of times when the dogs have spilt water and they have still been quite new and they wash really well and take very little time to dry.
The blankets never really last more than a few weeks in our house but that is because of what we use them for and I wouldn't expect any fleece blankets to stand up to Staffordshire Bull terrier teeth! The blankets are compact so can be carried around so would be great for on a childs buggy on days out and they would be lovely for snuggling on the sofa. I keep buying these fleeces so I would have to say I recommend them.
The ASDA Smartprice fleece throw is an excellent addition to the stores value range. The 130cm x 150cm piece of material makes an excellent blanket to snuggle in on the winter nights. I purchased mind for £2 (RRP £5.00) when it was on offer. It offered me the opportunity to burrow down on the sofa wrapped up warm, with a book whilst the lads watched television.
The only colour available at the time was a warm chocolate brown version, though ASDA do stock a variety of colours, including charcoal and striped. The offer was obviously popular as there were just two left, both in the chocolate colour.
You will find them with the standard green and white Smartprice paper packaging wrapped around the centre of the rolled throw, holding it together in the home furnishing isle alongside the bed linen.
The fleece is thin but reasonably fluffy. It isn't thick enough to bobble and leave small bits of wool lying around, which is great as it also means the fleece doesn't cling to clothes or the sofa. The throw is plain with just the stitching around the edges to keep it together. It also has a small label on one side which gives washing details and warning details, such as do not leave on coloured fabrics when damp due to staining and keep away from fire and flames.
It is recommended that the fleece is washed before its first use, but I purchased mine with the purpose of using it immediately as I was cold, so there was no waiting for it to be washed and dried. I cannot see how this has had an adverse effect on the product or its ability to do what it is designed to do.
It should be washed at 30degrees and with similar colours just in case the colours bleed, it can be tumbled and ironed, although I am not sure I would risk putting such a cheap material in the tumble drier. The blanket is big enough to cover two should you choose to or it could be used for an additional layer to any children's cot or bed. It would not be large enough to cover a double bed adequately.
I personally wouldn't keep these in the lounge on display as a throw as it's not the most attractive throw in the world; however I keep it in the wardrobe and bring it out on chilly days/nights when I need an extra layer. This is a bargain at £2 and very good value for money. I would fully recommend the throw, providing you don't have high expectations for a good quality addition to the furniture. But if you are looking for something which looks good on display I would suggest finding an alternative.
I have two lovely cream faux leather settees in my living room. At least they were lovely, until my cats got their sharp little claws into them. Now, despite still being structurally sound and incredibly comfy, they have certain areas that are covered in cat scratches, and also have some patches on the seats where the leather is wearing thin . I don't have the money to replace them, since they are still so comfy, and decided to cover them with throws, so when I noticed some in Asda at £2.77 or two for a fiver, it seemed like an excellent bargain.
There were a few colours to choose from, I remember seeing them in red, cream, and chocolate, and decided to purchase two chocolate coloured ones, and two cream ones, as they would fit best with the colour scheme in my living room. All the throws came tightly rolled up and secured with a ring of paper label.
Once unrolled the blanket measures 110cm x 150cm, which is a fair size. I probably wouldn't use these, for example, as blankets to sleep under, but that's because I like to be fully enclosed in a blanket and make myself a little nest - they are perfectly adequate for covering the worn patches on the sofa, snuggling under on cold winter nights, or vegging under on days when I feel a bit manky, and easily cover me from chest to toe when seated.
The material is lovely and soft, though it is very thin. I don't think if it were very cold that these would be the best for keeping warm with, though I do find them adequate for a few minutes while I wait for the central heating to kick in. They are also incredibly lightweight.
These wash incredibly easily- they take up barely any room in the machine, don't require any special care, and come out of the wash just as fluffy as when they went in, and practically dry. For this reason, I particularly like to use these blankets when my daughter has a bug, as if she does happen to be sick on one, it is so easy to clean.
My blankets have been washed many times now, and still look as good as new.
For a tenner for four, these really are excellent value . They cover up tatty patches, wash easily, feel lovely and soft, and help keep us all a little bit warmer. Five stars - top notch value.
I've had this throw for a few months now so thought i'd review it as it's a real bargain. I bought it for around the £2 mark in store from my local Asda however there are usually 2 for £5 offers. I have the throw in a lovely light chocolatey brown colour although there are various colours (pink, white, blue etc) and different designs including a cute spotty one. The throw is 100% polyester and is a little smaller if not around the same size as a single duvet cover.
The packaging with this is minimal and identical to Dooyoo's picture - a piece of plastic type paper which acts as a sleeve and can be pulled off easily. The fleece is plain (unless ofcourse you buy a patterned one) and hasn't got any detailing on it apart from stitching around the edges which are practically unnocticeable. The blanket is very soft and fleecey and although very lightweight (these blankets aren't very thick) the blanket does keep me warm and cosey whenever it's chilly.
The blanket/throw is multi purpose and can be used for all sorts - baby blanket, pet blanket, an extra layer over the duvet, etc. I usually wrap mine around me when it's cold while i'm sat on the sofa watching TV or if i'm in the garden and it's chilly but I can't be bothered to put a coat on. It does pick up dog hair but only light dog hair is noticeable. My dogs are all dark in colour except for my yellow labrador and her hairs are really prominant on the blanket and they sort of stick to it because of the fleecey material so I try and keep the dogs away from it although I will definetly be buying them all one of these blankets because they seem to like it. Obviously it can also be used as a throw but as I said before it picks up dog hair easily so I don't use it for its indended purpose or else my sofa's would look scruffy.
Washing the blanket is easy and i've washed mine countless times in the washing machine at 30 degrees. The blanket comes out of the washing machine nice and clean and fresh and it literally takes 10 minutes before it's bone dry due to the material. Overall this is a well made, cheap blanket which is well worth the price I paid and it lasts well too. Reccomended.
During the winter, the living room in my flat began to get really cold. I hadn't taken my big dressing gowns with me for some strange reason so I decided that I needed something else to keep me warm for those nights in front of the TV. As Asda is just across the road, it was my first port of call, especially as their home wares section is massive.
As far as I can tell, these throws only come in one colour - chocolate. This is all that was available at my local store and after having a look, the only colour available from Asda.com. I have no idea why this is only made in one colour as I think they would sell incredibly well if there was a larger range available. Our whole flat is pretty much beige due to it being a student flat and they like to keep everything as neutral as possible so chocolate really was a good colour for me to buy anyway.
I only paid £2 for my fleece in store but that was a while ago now so I checked online and they can be bought there now for £2.77 which is still amazing for what you get. The throw itself is 122cm x 152cm in size and made from 100% polyester. The packaging is what you would expect from the Smart Price brand and it is very basic but I didn't think this was a problem at all. The throw is rolled up inside of a paper label which is easily ripped off. The label gives the Asda brand logo as well as stating that you are buying a fleece throw as well as the size of the throw.
The throw is really well made considering how much it cost. Each side has double stitching which I thought was a nice touch and showed that care had gone into the making of this product. The material is actually super soft and I wasn't expecting this so much. The material is quite thin but after wrapping it around me in my arm chair, I was warm quite quickly so it does its job well. The thickness of the throw doesn't seem to affect the warmth it gives at all. I found the throw to be really comfortable as well and it makes me feel really warm and cosy on those colder nights. Now it is summer, I thought I wouldn't be using this anymore but seeing as this summer isn't warm at all, I have been using it a fair bit.
I really love my fleece throw and would happily buy another one (or more) if this one ever wears out. I have washed it several times and also ironed it (but only because the care instructions said it wouldn't fall into pieces!). So far, it is wearing really well and I can't see me having to replace it any time soon.
Last October I was sitting on my sofa with a vest top, t-shirt, jumper and my dressing gown draped over me freezing. This is when I decided it was time to buy a blanket to snuggle up with on cold evenings. Whilst doing my shopping in Asda I had a look around the home and leisure department (which I don't do often as it usually ends up with me spending a fortune!) and found myself putting a Smartprice fleece blanket into the trolley. For £2.99 who could go wrong.
* The blanket*
The blanket comes rolled in a paper label with the original white and green colours of Asda's Smartprice range. Once unrolled the blanket measures 110cm x 150cm, perfect size for me when I'm lying on the sofa as it covers my toes and I can still snuggle a little bit under my neck. If Kacie is lying down on the other side of the sofa it will cover the both of us, so no need for two separate blankets.
The material is very soft and fleecey. It is quite thin compared to other blankets on the market. But for £2.99 is fantastic quality. It is very light weight so easy to transport from room to room.
Now it's the summer months I use this blanket as a picnic blanket, there is enough room for my bum, Kacies bum, a couple of plates and some toys. As it is so lightweight we take it with us if we go for picnics in the park, not just our own garden. It fits in the buggy basket perfectly.
I've washed the blanket a lot of times on a 40 wash, I thought I'd have to throw it away by now, but it's still going strong. The material is starting to bobble, which I expected to happen after the first wash, not in 10 washes time. So has exceeded my expectations by miles.
* Price and availability *
The blanket is available to buy from Asda. There are 3 different colour varieties, brown, cream and red. Each blanket costs £2.99 but has been on offer in the past, 2 for £5.
* Verdict *
When I first purchased this blanket I thought it would last a month or two tops. 9 months later and it's only just started to show signs of wear. For £2.99 the quality is amazing, I would recommend them to everyone. They look great and feel great. Definitely 5 stars from me!
You may think I'm completely off my rocker but I use fleece blankets and throws in my guinea pigs' cages as an alternative to woodshavings. I was fed up of the mess that woodshavings made and I was also fed up of having to do a complete cage clean every single day; for me woodshavings just weren't absorbant enough. I was also worried that woodshavings were aggravating my boy's breathing as they tended to snuffle a bit.
I'm a member of a guinea pig forum and read that many of its members had switched to fleece as a bedding so I decided to give it a go. How it works is that you put down a base layer underneath the fleece, some people use newspaper and other use towels. I use towels underneath my fleece as I find it absorbs much more pee! Sounds disgusting I know but hey ho, piggies pee and poop a lot! When liquid goes on to the fleece it whicks it away to the layer below, in this case the towels and the top surface of the fleece stays nice and dry for your pampered piggies to enjoy.
My boys loved their fleeces from day one, I found that their snuffles stopped and the mess from the woodshavings was a thing of the past. The only thing you must to with fleeces is to poo pick regularly to keep everything nice and clean, I pick up poops around 3 times daily. You must also remember to have a base layer or the bottom of your cage will just be swimming in pee...
Anyhow, moving on...having decided that fleece was the right bedding for my pigs I searched the shops for some cheap fleece blankets or throws. Don't get me wrong, I love my boys to bits but I don't want to spend shed loads on something they're just going to do their business on! Finally in Asda I found the Smartprice Fleece Throw, hallelujah! At the time I bought them they were on offer for 2 blankets for £5 I think it was, an absolute bargain I think you'll agree. The colours available when I bought mine were brown, red and cream.
The actual throws are lovely and soft; each one is 122 cm x 152 cm; I find that one easily covers the bottom of a cage and with throw to spare. You'd think for the price that you would be getting a mediocre product - wrong! These throws aren't paper thin like you would expect and they are very easy to wash. Just bung them in to the washing machine and you're sorted! For any piggy owners reading this I would recommend not washing them on too high a setting as it seems to destroy the absorbancy. I made the mistake of doing so and the pee was just sitting on the top and not whicking away like I wanted it to. As those reading this probably just want this product as a throw for themselves then you don't have to worry about that problem.
I have since been back to Asda when the offer was on and bought myself 2 more, for that price I can afford to. I saved one of the throws for myself to use whilst vegging infront of the TV of a night time; the throw keeps you warm without being heavy and smothering, just nice and toasty in my opinion. However, be prepared for these throws to pick up everything, pet owners beware as your fleece could soon be covered in dog hair that is quite hard to shake off! (But, I hasten to add, not impossible)
These throws have proved a great buy for me and my pigs; you could also use them for dog blankets, whatever you want. At a cheap price one of these throws is definately worth popping in your trolley - or do like I did and buy a few!
PS, If you're wondering what the title is about it's a very bad pun on a song by Another Level (featuring Dane Bowers) :)
Last autumn on a rare trip to Asda I came across these fleece throws. The offer at the time was 2 for £5 and the basket containing them in this particular branch had only red, cream and brown left. I chose one red and one cream one. Each fleece throw is 110cm x 150cm so plenty long enough to use on yourself for some extra warmth but that wasn't really why I bought them.
I have lots of these type of throws, some huge, some small and some middle of the road like this particular item. Mainly I use them as comfy warm places for my boys (cats) to lay on. I find my lads often fancy a new bed and this kind of thing is ideal for folding up on a shelf, draping over a cushion or just spreading out on the floor so they've got something soft and cosy to snooze on. Both my boys really like a nice warm fleece to use as a bed so that's really what I bought them for. However I've also used one as a blanket to wrap one of my boys in during an emergency car trip to the vets during that very, very cold couple of weeks last year. I wanted to make sure he didn't get cold when I first got in the car with him and it hadn't been heated and again when I got out at the other end. Obviously I wasn't driving!
I have used these for me too though, if I'm feeling a bit cold I just either wrap one round my shoulders and back while I slouch around on the sofa or if I'm laid down upstairs I use it like a blanket. These fleeces are so light you barely know you've got one on you except for how much more heat they provide. I think they are extremely useful for adults, animals and kids as they can just be thrown over you or put under you and feel lovely and soft and warm.
As for washing them, I've washed mine several times so far, I just pop them in the washing machine on a normal 40 degree wash then hang them up to dry over a door. I wouldn't advise washing them with any black clothes as I suspect they'd leave fluff on other items and tumble drying would likely result in them shrinking. As for drying time though, I can wash one of these and hang it up and it's dry in a few hours. Pop it into the airing cupboard for a few more hours and it's ready to be used again. That's perfect if you use them for pets as you can easily clean and dry them if they get anything on them.
Overall I really like these fleece throws, they were very cheap to buy and have been incredibly useful since I got them. I actully could have done with 2 more but I don't get to Asda very often so may have to look online and see if they sell them though their website. A full 5 stars from me, they're soft, warm, a good size for various uses and wash and dry easily.
Living in a student house means it can get quite cold sometimes as having the heating on means spending more money that I don't really have. I therefore decided I needed some blankets to help keep me warmer in bed. I had seen these in Asda about 6 months ago but then they disappeared. Luckily for me, they reappeared about 2 months ago and so I bought 2 of them, one brown and one red for the great price of 2 for £5!
They come rolled up and held together with a paper label that wraps around each blanket that has all the details on. The throw is made of a fleece material which makes it nice and soft. It is quite thin but I have never found this to be a problem as with the fleece under the quilt makes for a warm nights sleep. Each fleece measures 110cm x 150cm which for me is quite good as it will cover most of me in bed. It's size is just right for use anywhere in the house as it will cover you well if you are sat down down as well. Being a thin material makes it lightweight and easy to fold/store. I have mine at the end of my bed and they are small enough to not be noticeable.
I've not washed these yet but I would probably put them on a low heat wash as I don't know how the material would last. At the price they are cheap enough to replace though. They are a great addition to Asda's Smartprice range and for the price, they offer great warmth and functionality when you are cold. In the cold month we have just had, they have proved a real lifesaver and I'm sure they will be useful over the next few months too. I would certainly recommend these to anyone who has a cold house or wants to save a little bit on there heating bill. 5/5 as they have helped keep me warm over the cold months and they are exceptional value for money.
Thank you for reading!

The one thing I do buy alot of are throws for my home. I feel the cold really easily and have a leather sofa and hated lying on it cos it was freezing and thats why when I spotted these throws costing two pound each (currently on offer at the time of writing this review at 2 for £3.00) I bought a couple. I use them when I'm on my sofa, pop one round me when I'm in bed and like I previously mentioned do own rather a few of them in different colours and designs and simply find them handy to have scattered about the place.
This comes very simply packaged so it comes rolled up and it has a white and green easy to pull off label on it which simply tells me it is an Asda Smart Price Fleece Throw and the size is stated. On the back of the throw contact details for Asda are given. Simple packaging but you don't need it anyway!
The Throw Itself:
The throw as expected from it's title is fleece and rather thick fleece too considering its so cheap. I chose a dark brown option and a cream one and you can't see through either of them. They are not heavy but I find them soft and thick enough and to the edges they are stitched and in some places double stitched and that stitching is really tidily done and the whole thing is really finished off nicely.
They are made from 100% polyester and are 122x152cm in measurements so are really large and they are machine washable but according the the care instructions on the label on the throw not suitable for tumble drying but I only know that from looking at the care instructions now that I am writing this review and I have many times washed and tumble dried mine and experienced no problems at all....but thats only my experience of course! I wash mine on a 40c wash (which is what the care label suggests) and iron it (the care label says I can do that too lol) and this has kept well and looks as good as new and actually has gotten softer over time!
I think these are fabulous. They feel soft against my skin and are a real winter warmer. Great quality too for an Asda smart price product and finished off really well and don't look one bit cheap! I certainly recommend these as they are functional and look nice!
Well done Asda!
