Advantages: Cheap, does what it should

Disadvantages: Doesn't look very attractive

Every home needs a toilet brush. However, I know some people who have spent quite a lot on theirs and I don't really get it. Considering what the product is used for, why pay so much? I get that some are considerably nicer than others but I don't care that much about my bathroom and how other people to see it to buy something expensive, which is why I have the Asda Smartprice Toilet Brush Set. Also, I share my flat with a friend from uni and neither of us want to spend more money than is absolutely necessary.

As this is an Asda product, it can only be found in-store or online. Buying this toilet brush set will cost you roughly 50p, but the price does go up and down from time to time. Being a Smartprice product, the packaging is extremely simple. Actually, there is no packaging. The brush sits inside the holder, which has on it a green label which gives the Asda logo and the name of the product. While I would have maybe liked some plastic or cellophane to keep the two items together, I wasn't so bothered that I didn't get this. The label is easy enough to peel off and doesn't leave any marks on the base unit.

Both the base unit and the brush are made from a cheap white plastic. The base has four small legs which are moulded out of the plastic and at the top of the base there is a round hole in which to put the brush. The hole isn't very large but it is big enough for the brush to sit in comfortably. The brush has quite a long handle and then numerous white bristles to clean with at the bottom. All in all, a very basic toilet brush set. There is nothing fancy or exceptional about this set but it looks good enough in a white bathroom.

The brush is quite sturdy, with good quality bristles. Being something I use to clean the toilet with, all I care about is that it does the job it was made for. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. The brush size is good, giving enough bristles to clean the toilet well. The handle of the brush does feel slightly less durable than the base and the bristles of the brush so I would advise being a little bit careful with it when using.

To clean both the brush and the base unit, all I do is wash with either soapy hot water or with a bit of bleach. At least with bleach I know things are going to get really clean whereas with soap it can be a bit hit and miss. This set is very easily cleaned and always looks like new afterwards. Being made out of white plastic, it is also easy to wipe clean if that's all it needs.

For 50(ish)p, I think this is a great product and it does exactly what it was made for. Ok, it won't last you a million years but for the price, it isn't hard to replace it.

Summary: Good value
