      Lovely welcome mat

When we finished decorating our hall, I spotted this welcome mat in B&Q and thought it would finish the hall off nicely. Our hall is painted red and magnolia, with wooden floors, and this mat just adds a splash of matching colour whilst being functional at the same time. It currently costs £10 from B&Q.

The mat is described as a recycled flexi mat, as apparently the rubber crumb backing is recycled. I didn't realise that at the time, I just liked the pattern. It is made up of stripes in various shades of gold, brown, orange and red, and looks lovely on wooden flooring. It is suitable for busy areas, and is washable being made of nylon. Obviously the hall is the busiest area in most houses, so having a mat you can wash is essential as they harbour so much dirt. We wash ours in the washing machine on a 40 degree wash, and it comes out clean and retains its shape.

The measurements of this mat are 60cm x 40cm. The depth is 1cm, which makes it a lot flatter than the usual wicker type welcome mats which can sometimes stop doors from opening properly. This one lies flat so it won't get in the way of the door. I think it's slightly larger than most welcome mats I've had in the past, which is good because there's no chance of visitors missing it. Although we don't have carpet downstairs, I hate it when people drag rain and mud through the wooden floor and kitchen tiles. I sometimes wonder whether having such a nice welcome mat deters people from wiping their feet, because it looks to nice to wipe mud on!

I would recommend this mat if you like the design. In terms of functionality it is perfect for busy hallways. The backing contains rubber so it doesn't move around the hall every time someone uses it. It can also be vacuumed in between washes so it never looks as messy as you'd expect with it being in the hall. Five stars from me.
