Ben de Lisi White Rabbit Wall Hook
Advantages: looks fantastic, easy to fit, large hook provides lots of storage space
Fashion designer Ben de Lisi has a fabulous homeware collection available exclusively through Debenhams. The designs are very bold, fresh and modern and have a fun twist to them. There are a range of four different animal themed wall hooks as part of this collection, including a red bulldog, white rabbit, yellow rhino, and purple reindeer. I absolutely love the reindeer and the rabbit hooks, and I bought two of each to use in my hallway. The RRP is £8.00 each so the total cost of £32.00 was a bit pricey, but I think that they are well worth it.
Product description: "Ben de Lisi offers unique, intricate design in simple form with this white rabbit wall hook. Ideal for use in all parts of the home, this wall hook adds a touch of creativity and practicality in one, complete with a large silver hook and an additional hanging hook to the back for easy fixture to the wall."
Mainly due to the terrible weather this summer, I decided to spend most of my weekends redecorating various rooms in my house. One area I really wanted to spruce up was my hallway, as it was pretty drab and uninviting. I freshened up all the paintwork and decided to add a splash of colour by painting the open section under my stairs in shades of candyfloss and hot pink. I wanted to add some fun and gaudy accessories, and thought that the reindeer and the rabbit hooks would be the perfect replacement for my boring old coat rack.
The hooks are a good size, measuring H 16cm x W 9cm x D 6cm, so they stand out and make a statement. I think they look great as they are very eyecatching and add a quirky twist to the otherwise plain look of my hallway. The designs are quite simplistic and the animals have a clean cut look to them. This rabbit hook has a plain white colour to it, which is a bit of a shame as the other 3 hooks in this range have nice bright colours. I have the hooks set on a plain white section of woodwork and the rabbits sort of blend in a bit from a distance with the details being hard to make out, whereas the purple reindeer ones stand out and are more noticeable. I am a real animal lover and this is reflected in the pictures and trinkets that I have littered around my home. I love my new coat hooks because they're like an animal-friendly take on taxidermy! The rabbit has a simple classic look with a cute chubby little face, and long ears that stand straight up.
Now, I'm no expert when it comes to DIY and I usually just muddle along making only minor adjustments or improvements that fall within my limited repertoire of skills. These hooks were incredibly easy to fit into place and took little effort on my part to achieve a great looking result. The hook itself is attached to the back of the animal's head and falls down quite low beneath to give a generous amount of room for holding whatever you choose to place on it. On the back of the head, there is an open slot which narrows at the top, and you simply need to position a screw in the wall and then place the hook over the screw head and push it down into place. Very simple and hassle free. The only problem was that the hooks did not come with any screws to attach to the wall, and in this case I just used the old screws from the coat hooks I was taking down, but this would be easy and inexpensive to get hold of if you needed to buy some screws to fit the hooks.
The hooks hold strongly in place and are sturdy, so they're very functional in practice. They help me to maximise what would otherwise be a dead space, and provide a practical storage solution as well as being decorative. The actual hook section is silver coloured, with a little ball on the end to stop things from slipping off. It has a deep curve which gives plenty of extra room, and I am currently using them to hold my coats and jackets as well as a couple of handbags and my big winter umbrella. I have at least 2-3 items on each hook, and there's still plenty of extra space so that when I have guests over they can also hang their coats up as well.
I can thoroughly recommend this Ben de Lisi Rabbit Hook as a simple and fun home accessory that's useful as well. You can hold a lot of stuff on each one, and it matches in well with other pieces from the range. A nice statement coat hook that has become a real feature in my hallway.
