Bic Biro
This product is surely something everyone has come across and it is a total favourite of mine. It has been around for many years and is popular with most school goers and workers alike.
Bic has been the leading manufacturer in stationary products for many years and has been operating since 1950. This Bic Biro Cristal BallPoint pen was added to the collection at the Museum of Modern Art of New York. Which is pretty amazing to me. Bic sold its hundredth billion ballpoint pen in 2005, which must have generated some real income for them!
Ok so this Bic biro is basically a clear plastic slightly hexagon shaped pen measuring around 12 cm with a gold coloured tip which is attached to the inside ink cartridge that is visible through the outer casing. There is a detachable lid with a air hole in the tip encase the lid was accidentally swallowed. This lid also has a clip on the side so that the pen can be hooked onto paper and notepads etc.
The good thing with this pen being made of clear plastic is that you are able to see how much ink has been used and how much use you have got left out of the pen. The bad thing with this being made of clear plastic is that the pen is easily broken and I have many times sat on one only for it to shatter into a million pieces and be totally unusable.
However these Bic Biros usually do last a long time. I try so hard to keep the lids attached as I can stand using ones without lids for some bizarre reason. I also cant stand people who chew the end of the lid to an unrecognisable shape as this truly looks disgusting to other people. I am however pretty good at looking after my stationary and all my Bic pens are in good condition.
I tend to buy these in black colour but I do like to also use the red one. There are several colours of this particular Bic including black, red, blue and green. There are similar pens from Bic that have instead of the Cristal trade mark clear casing are made from orange plastic. These I think not only look awful but also write completely different as the nib seems thinner and has less glide in the ballpoint.
These Bic pens have a very nice writing ability and seem to make my handwriting appear at its best. The nib is a medium thickness and the ink seems to dry very quickly. The black ink is very black but can often smudge more than the other colours such as blue. I find that the green Bic will clot the most giving a somewhat gloopy look on paper if the pen is a little older. Newer pens don’t clot as much as ones that I have had a longer time and for a neater bit of writing it is always best to use a newer Bic.
These Bic Ballpoint Cristil pens are really very cheap and that is a good reason to buy them. I recent bought a box of them for £2.59pence and there were 20 in a box. They are also sold singularly at about a price of 20 to 25 pence depending on where you buy from.
I would say that these pens are just a terrific bargain. They write well and last for ages plus hardly cost a thing. They are available in a number of useful colours and really in a cheap biro you could not want for more.
Summary: fab pen
