Advantages: works well and cheap
Disadvantages: quality is getting worse
bic is one of the largest manufacturers of disposal pens. They come in a range of colours but I find it is difficult to buy the red or the green ones in the majority of shops. They are priced well at £1 for 5 and they tend to last quite a lot of writing. Generally they get stolen or lost before running out of ink.
That is just the point of these products is the realisation that pens are easily lost in the work place and home. If you spend a lot of money on a nice pen that can be a serious issue but not so with something priced at a £1. The quality of the writing produced I have never noticed to be any worse though. Many a time I have used these new gel pens and found them to stick and run out of ink very quickly. That said in recent years I find the pens are of a lesser quality that before. They easily shatter or the nib breaks down.
The way the pens tend to work is that on first use the ink is not free flowing then in the middle phase the pen is at its best. The pen glides over the ink just like more expensive products. This is the case right up to the final phase where there is no ink left and it has to be binned
Summary: better than new gel pens and cheaper
