I've been a fan of horror for as long as I can remember, and after a recent spate of home decorating I decided that the one thing I really needed in my life was a "bloodbath" themed bathroom. You may be surprised to know that I am not the only one who thinks this is an amusing idea for a DIY project, and there are plenty of bloody bathroom accessories available from a number of different outlets. Among the the first items that I bought for this project was this Blood Bath Mat. I found it on www.amazon.co.uk where it costs around £10.00 inclusive of postage.
Product description: "The Blood Bath mat can make your bathroom look like that in the motel in Hitchcock's "Psycho". The mat is full of red stains, which look very realistic. It is an excellent accessory for horror films freaks or those, who want to play a joke on their guests."
I bought this mat purely because it had the exact look I wanted. It has a plain white background with two bloody foot print shapes and bloody splatter marks marked out in red. I think this combination works really effectively to provide a good contrast between the bright white and bright red colours, and the pattern is bold so it really stands out. It definitely has a bit of a "Psycho" look to it! The only problem is that the white material shows up marks easily and it gets grubby very quickly indeed. I have to wash it fairly regularly to keep it looking clean and in good condition. I put this in the washing machine with my usual eco quick wash cycle and it comes up looking fresh and new again, with the soft feeling of the fabric still remaining.
The mat has a nice soft and plush texture to it which is very comfortable to stand on. It is absorbent and catches any drips of water after I've got out of the bath or shower and am towelling off. I have lino flooring in my bathroom and hate the feeling of standing on it in my bare feet, so this mat serves the purpose of giving a more comfortable surface to stand on, and stops me from leaving water marks all over my floor. It measures in at 68.5cm (27") long by 51cm (20") wide, so is large enough to provide a good area of coverage but also fits in nicely against the small space at the side of my bath without taking up the whole of the floor area. There is a rubbery type backing material with raised woven bumps that give grip against the lino and makes sure that it stays securely in position and is not slipping around all over the place when I walk on it.
This Blood Bath Mat is a quirky and fun home accessory that really suits the bloodbath theme that I've decided to go for. Perfect for anyone with a dark or morbid sense of humour, it really stands out and makes my bathroom look more interesting as well as being nice and comfortable to use.
