This is a review of the cross journal (notebook) I bought recently to celebrate my return to the world of work and also to match the a4 leather Cross portfolio I bought from TK Maxx which I use at meetings and interviews.
The notebook comes in several colour ways, (I have pink, a bit different to the one pictured above) and is of extremely high quality. The outer cover has a pink woven fabric with circle patterns on it and inside are perforated sheets of A5 paper of a high gsm weight. The notebook has a chocolate brown ribbon you can use as a page marker. Also included with the journal is a silver Cross pen which is very posh and here I want to use the word quality yet again.
I use my journal every day at work. I like how the pages are perforated so you can tear them out if you wish. The lines are fairly close together on the paper so you have to write a bit small but you get more value from your page. I also love the fact that it holds a pen so don't have to remember to bring one separately. The holder is elasticated on one side so there is a bit of give to it too. The holder stops it from rolling around in my bag.
OK so it's not that secret but there is a cardboard holder at the back that is useful for receipts and tickets.
Although it is a bonus item, the pen is such a nice writer with a free flowing ink and you can also buy the refills for it. I will definitely do this as it is such a classy pen. You just twist the barrel and start writing. It is a bit more slim line than I am used to and the smooth barrel can be a bit slippy to hold but the more I use it the more I get used to it. Good job as I got an identical one with the portfolio too. I should also add that it is black in colour.
This is department store quality and I first discovered the brand in TK Maxx. I was so pleased with my original purchase of the Cross portfolio that I researched the brand online and I found it at a bargain price (more on that later). I think this makes a lovely gift that looks really expensive too yet actually proves to be great value for money.
I think I got a bargain paying £5.99 for this including postage. The pen alone is worth twice this.
The added advantage of the different colours make this a serious crowd pleaser when it comes to gifts, in my case it was a gift to myself as I can't abide boring stationery cupboard items at work. I truly think that this is a joy to write in even though it's for work.
I will continue to buy these at this price until the shop runs out of stock. Cross is a very high quality brand that I have been pleased to discover via discounted shops.
