A few of my previous reviews have mentioned that I have been decorating my bathroom. To help spread the cost of decorating I had been purchasing items and putting them away to do a "changing rooms" style makeover on my bathroom. One of the things I purchased was this Damask Teal Water Repellent Polyester Shower Curtain (it will be known as shower curtain from here in the review) it cost me £9.99 from amazon.co.uk a couple of months ago. I put it to one side till I had gathered up the motivation to attack my bathroom.
In the run up to Christmas my son was on leave and he and his fiancé were stopping with us, my future daughter is quite a fussy little Miss and spends lots of time in the shower so wanting to make sure the bathroom looked reasonably decent in the run up to Christmas I put my new shower curtain up.
The shower curtain comes packed in a strong clear plastic pack, it comes with curtain rings which I chose not to use as I am more than happy with the ones from my previous shower curtain. The curtain itself measures 180 x 180cm and is made from 100% polyester. As stated in the product title the shower curtain is only water repellent not water proof, so if you are in the shower and someone leans against the other side of the curtain they will get wet, but it is more than adequate at directing the water into the bath and away from the bathroom floor.
The shower curtain is very light and easy to put up and I had clipped it into my shower curtain rings using the twelve metal lined eyelets in no time at all, once up it hung nicely and looked fairly good for the money I had paid for it. When fully extended it reached the length of my bath with ease and kept all the splashes from the shower fully contained.
The Teal colour of the curtain is very attractive and the edges of the printed design are sharp and crisp and do not bleed into the white background. I think it would suit most bathroom colour schemes and the print is modern and bold.
The shower curtain claims to be treated to ensure a greater level of water repellence and mould resistance. I had the curtain up for around 8 weeks then I decided to replace it with a new one from Dunelm Mill as this one was showing signs of yellowing along the bottom edge, there was no mould, but this may be due to the fact that I insist on the shower curtain being left stretched out after each shower so it dries off, but the yellowing was very unattractive and to my mind did not make for an hygienic showering time.
Not wanting to be completely wasteful I popped the shower curtain into the washer on a 40c wash as recommended by the label with no fabric conditioner as this removes the water repellent treatment. The curtain washed up really nicely and it does look nice and fresh again, all the yellowing has gone. I am yet to put it back up as I much prefer my Dunelm Mill one but I will be keeping it as a spare for when I wash the shower curtain I am now using.
In conclusion it is a nice shower curtain for the money but it seems to get stained by water/shower gels very easily. I give it 3 out of 5 stars as it does the job but for the price I think there are better shower curtains to be had.
