Just doesn't work! (Dulux PaintPod Roller System)

A fantastic idea on paper and, if it worked properly, perhaps it would revolutionise painting. An end to messy roller tray and paint spillages sounds pretty good. But like so many similar products before it the Dulux PaintPod promises a lot more than it delivers.

The principle is that you fill the body of the device with the colour of emulsion paint of your choice and as you use the roller the paint is continually pumped up the feedtube into the special roller provided as part of the kit. The system supposedly provides an even coverage via the roller. The reality is somewhat different. The paint seems to come through at different rates for no apparent reason. There's a trigger that is pulled to initiate the flow and at several times during its use I noticed that the trigger seemed to stick, dispensing more paint than required and making the whole process pretty messy. Sometimes it also stopped pumping of its own accord. I just never felt like I was actually in control of the thing. And to cap it all the roller broke, seemingly with no pressure. It was replaced immediately but it didn't bode well for an overall feeling of quality.

In the interest of balance, I have to admit that my Dad bought the same system and has used it without issue. So maybe mine was a rogue. But I can't recommend the PaintPod because of my direct experience.
