A great fabric underbed storage facility

With my daughter getting bigger, she seems to be accumulating more and more stuff, and I am running out of room very quickly! So, in the knowledge that I needed to buy some extra storage boxes for my daughter I headed to Dunelm, where I knew I would be able to pick up reasonable priced storage items. To be honest when I went, I expected to be looking for solid boxes that would fit under the bed that she will move into when she is older. However, I spotted these fabric underbed boxes and thought they would be perfect. Not only were they cheaper than the underbed boxes, but I thought they looked more child friendly.

This underbed storage box measures 50 x 18 x 40 cm in dimensions and cost me £3.99, which given the size I thought was pretty reasonable. Dunelm only had red in colour when I picked up this box, but other stores may have more variety in colours. This box is made of fabric, but there are cardboard pieces inside to provide the sturdiness and structure of the box. That said, this box would not be suitable for large heavy items, as it simply couldn;t hold them and remain in shape, but for placing clothes, blankets and soft toys then this is ideal storage. The fact that I wanted this storage box for clothes that my daughter would wear when she was bigger, this box was perfect and held everything that I needed it to.

The lid of this box is held in place with velcro fastening the lid that hang over to the front of the box, which I have to say does stay quite secure. To protect the box however, it is better that you bring the whole thing out from under the bed if you want to get something form the box, as in order to open the lid fully, you need enough room to push it back, otherwise it can damage the lid .

I like the fact with this box, that you also have two handles at the side to be to move the box and get a grip of it easily. It is also useful when you are lifting the box, maybe setting it above cupboards or something.

All in all, for the price that I paid for this box, I am very happy with it. No, it isn't as strong as a plastic box would be, but if you want an understorage box to house soft items like clothes or blankets, then this is a good idea, I have found this box to hold quite a lot and I feel it keeps the items out of the way but also clean and free from dust. I would happily recommend this and if we had a bigger house, I would certainly purchase more of these for under the beds, as it certainly keeps your house free from clutter, in a neat and tidy way.

        Highly Recommended

Dunelm have got these fabric storage boxes available online and in store for only £1.24 each. For your money, you get a large and attractive storage area complete with a handle, label insert slip and velcro fastening tabs. I really don't think you could ask for more for your money.

These boxes are designed to fit under your bed, and I think they're a great size for that at 50cm by 40cm by 18cm. They're equally handy for using as toy storage for light items such as dressing up clothes or teddies and can be stacked neatly on top of each other, and for storing papers and files in too. The important thing to remember is that they are made of fabric though, so you can only put so much weight inside them before they'll start to lose their shape.

Considering both the material and the price, they are pretty sturdy little boxes. The fabric seems to be reinforced with thick card between the layers, and our boxes have all kept their shape with appropriate inside each of them. The only fault we've had is that a handle pulled off on one box from where the grandson yanked it too hard, but really I feel that was a case of 'user fault'.

The colours available on the website include a mixture of bright colours and a rich black too. In store, where we purchased ours, they had pink, royal blue and turquoise blue only. That could be down to stock levels and popularity in our local store, or they might offer different colours online and in store - there's no way to know other than visiting your local store and finding out I'm afraid.

All in all these have to get the full five stars. For just over £1, they are excellent storage containers which look considerably more attractive than any plastic equivilant you could hope to get in this price range. They are sufficiently sturdy to hold linens, towels, clothes and teddies, and the little label compartment on the front is a nice extra touch that means you can have six identical boxes and not need to open each one up to find the things you're looking for! The velcro fastenings inside the lid flap hold well too, and though the handles are obviously not the strongest in the world, I think they are adequate enough for use by persons who aren't over-excited tots like the grandson is.
