“ Brand: Dunelm Mill / Type: Doormat „
I had to pop into Dunelm Mill during the week for ONE thing. Unfortunately when I'm in there, I find myself, zombie-like, adding things I don't necessarily need into my basket/greedy hands.
I'd seen a doormat with poppies on it on their website which I'd had my eye on for the kitchen, but forgot all about that when I saw this Vespa Coir doormat. As a motor-racing fan, I have vintage motorsport posters up in my kitchen, Ferrari magnets on the fridge, and red microwave, toaster and crockery. So a doormat with a little Italian scooter on it seemed very much in keeping with the decor.
This is made from coir - to be honest I am not really sure what coir is, but basically, like other doormats, it is straw-like in appearance and very bristly. The bottom of it is a sort of hard black plasticky material, which makes it non-slip.
COLOURS AND SIZES AVAILABLE
Only one size of this mat is available - 40x70cm, which is around the width of my kitchen door.
There are 4 colours of Vespa available - blue, green, pink and red. I was very tempted to get the green but red matched my kitchen much better. I think yellow would have been lovely too, get on it Dunelm!
There are similar mats available that feature a VW Beetle on the front also. This led me to stand there for about 5 minutes being completely indecisive about which one to buy - but it's nice to have the choice.
DAY TO DAY USE
This is very convenient to have at the kitchen door when I am coming home from walking Sawyer. If we've been to the forest or park, it means I can stop tramping through the kitchen and covering the floor in muddy prints. The rough bristles will take off most mud and moisture from shoes, and lead to cleaner floors all round.
The backing on the doormat means that this stays in position even when wiping your feet vigorously.
The only thing I dislike about this is that some of the bristles fall off each time you use it. I think this is the nature of the coir rather than a fault of the actual mat. I did hoover up quite a lot of bristles yesterday but I think that because this is only new, and would expect less to fall off as time goes by.
Dunelm Mill advise that you should not get this doormat wet; I assume they mean soaking wet as wet feet, etc wouldn't harm this.
This costs £5.99. Pretty standard, really.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS?
I would wholeheartedly recommend this. I think this mat and the Volkswagen version are slightly quirky and original, and they are something a bit different from the norm for the same price. It really complements the retro decor I have going on in my kitchen, and I'm really pleased about my impulse buy.
