      Advantages

      Disadvantages

At a price of Zippo, it's worth a punt.

In our house, I have the choice of a shower or a bath - or a quick rub-down with a piece of sacking, but only when I have been good.

In the mornings, I opt for a shower; in the evenings I tend to get my wife's second hand bath water. She is always having a dip when she isn't dirty and it is by no means uncommon for us blokes to get sloppy seconds. We don't mind.

Rather than use the en-suite shower, which is mediocre in terms of water flow and pressure, I invariably go for the super dooper whizz bang full monty powerful shower in the main bathroom. It's got a lovely old fashioned shower head and you get loads of water flow.

That is great as far as getting a good invigorating shower is concerned, but I have noticed that even though I don't linger long in there, I do seem to use a lot of water - hence my interest in this little gadget. Eaga are currently offering one of these free to every household in the country. Just Google their website and enter your details, whereupon Bob will be your Uncle and Fanny your aunt! Mine arrived on Wednesday (that's the device, not Aunt Fanny) and I have used it twice since fitting it.

The Eaga Shower Smart is basically an OFGEM approved water flow regulator which fits between the shower head and the hose and gives you a standard regulated flow of 7.8 litres per minute. I was able to fit it in about 3 minutes and I saw no difference whatsoever in the quality of the shower, although I was conscious that there appeared to be less water disappearing down the plughole as I washed my bits. ( Just for the record, the view to the plughole was not hindered due to the girth of my belly or anything else for that matter.)

It comes with a 15 year guarantee which will see me through to my dotage and if the manufacturer's claims are to be believed, its use will save more than a tonne of CO2 in its lifetime - who's counting? More importantly, with our water being metered, I should save a few quid whilst it remains fitted.

One point to note is that you can't use it on electric showers.
