Febreze Aerosol Caribbean Paradise Air Freshener

Advantages: Rapidly eliminates odours and stale smells

Disadvantages: Does not offer a long lasting fragrance as claimed

I have been passionate about home fragrancing ever since I purchased my first home many years ago where I would initially use aerosol fresheners. However, as time has progressed we now have a multitude of choices with my favourites being electric plug-ins and candles. Earlier this year I was pleased when I obtained some vouchers for two free Febreze aerosols and never being one to turn down a freebie I made my purchases with this review discussing Caribbean Paradise.

I must admit that spray air fresheners are not something I generally tend to purchase, particularly as the scents last for only a short space of time whereas plug ins and candles fragrance for far greater periods. Appearance wise I find all of the Febreze air fresheners very appealing to the eye with their vivid colours and unique style packaging with Caribbean Paradise being of a calming turquoise blue. We are provided with 300 ml of product in a metal aerosol can with an usual shaped trigger action dispenser, so there's not fussing around with having to remove and replace the lid, which normally detaches itself over time.

Unlike other air fresheners, Febreze contains a nitrogen propellant and once the sturdy plastic trigger is lightly pressed the spray is released in a very fine mist. The concept behind Febreze is that in addition to providing a long lasting scent to your home it will rapidly eliminate pongy odours and stale smells. Whilst I enjoyed using the other fragrance (the name of which escapes me), Caribbean Paradise was lurking at the back of the kitchen cupboard and on dispensing the spray I am now able to recall the reason why. Unfortunately, I cannot bear the aroma of coconut as it reminds me of a horrible experience with my over indulgence with Malibu many years ago.

However, as one would probably expect, Caribbean Paradise offers a coconut aroma albeit delicate, together with the gorgeous aroma of pineapple (which was my Malibu mixer). As a consequence, I cannot bear the fragrance, as it brings back too many unpleasant memories. On a positive note, any odours are eliminated due to the patented Febreze technology, which will capture the pongy molecules and neutralise them, so there's no risk of them reappearing once the scent has died down. I cannot bear the current television advertising for Febreze, but I have to agree that the product lives up to its claims in relation to eradicating horrid smells. In addition, the product is marketed as leaving your home smelling fresh, but in my experience, the aroma disappears extremely quickly and is far less superior to rival brands such as Airwick.

Ratings this product is a little difficult, particularly due to my dislike of coconut. However, it performed well in relation to eliminating unwanted odours, such as cabbage, which tends to linger for ages after it has been cooked. However, I feel that its air freshening qualities are somewhat limited and as a result, I can award only three stars. If you are interested in purchasing this product it generally retails at £3, which I think is far too expensive, but until 21 October 2012 you can purchase two for £4 from Tesco.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.

Summary: An okay odour eliminator with a high price tag
