Glade Candle Spiced Apple & Cinnamon Candle

Just before Christmas I picked up two of Glades winter collection Christmas candles marked up at £2 on a half price special offer. I didn't use to buy candles too often, which is something I am trying to rectify recently, after going to friends and families houses and smelling some lovely scents going on. The Glade Christmas candles had lots of different flavours to choose from on the shelf and I went for two of the Spiced Apple and Cinnamon candles after having a whiff of them.

Glade

Glade is a subsidiary of S. C. Johnson & Son and has been a manufacturer of home air fresheners since 1956, and more recently candles, car air fresheners, plugins and scented oils as the demand increased and fashions changed.

The Candle

The spiced apple and cinnamon candle is a limited edition fragrance from Glade immediately caught my eye on the shelf. It was a lovely Christmassy deep red colour on both the packaging and candle jar. The glass candle is enclosed in a quite thin cardboard sleeve, I truly like this packaging design as it means that you can really get a good smell of the candle inside and see which one takes your fancy there and then before you buy it.

There is a nice picture of cinnamon and a ripe looking apple with some festive snow sprinkled on the box along with the Glade branding. The cardboard design and glass jar inside have similar design patterns on them, which is a wintery scene with snowflakes and red and gold swirls. It looks a much more expensive candle than it actually is and as I say it went really well alongside my Christmas tree.

The candle comes in a thin glass jar that is circular shaped much like a ball with a flat base to sit on surfaces and an open top to obviously let the candle burn freely. This is a nice compact size, being about 10 cm by 10 cm diameter. The wax is filled up to half of the glass.

The wax is a lovely deep red colour with an orange tinge to it and has a shiny smooth consistency. When you put this up to your nose (unlit of course!) you immediately smell warmth and Christmas, it's delicious, but not overpowering which is why I decided on this flavour. These are very much a winter spice mixture.

Once you light the wick, the scent starts to blossom, I can smell the spicy apple aroma and a hint of cinnamon which go together really nicely. It smells sweet and delicious, however, the main hits that I get from this candle come when I first light it and then once I blow the wick out I get another good burst of the fragrance. The in-between burning of this candle I find quite disappointing, whether this is because I perhaps become accustomed to the smell, or it simply isn't that strong I can't decide. Having splashed out on some
Yankee candles for my partners mother at Christmas who lit one whilst we were there I think it may be the latter explanation.

Glade suggest burning this from between 2 to 4 hours to maximize the life of your candle, I rarely burn mine for these lengths of time and as such the wax does burn slightly unevenly, as this is quite a wide jar as well this does not help matters. Burning time: Up to 30 hours.

Overall

I really liked the smell of this candle in the shop and still do on burning; I just don't think it is nearly strong enough to make the most of the lovely sweet spices and as such can only give it a score of 3 Stars.

Summary: A slightly disappointing candle - gives a lot at the start and end and very little in the middle!
