Advantages: Keeps litter smelling a bit nicer
Disadvantages: None for me or my 3 girls
As we have 3 cats 2 of whom are older and virtually indoor cats a litter tray is a must in our house. I always think as we like our loo clean then so will the cat, although at the moment the litter tray is Marks department. Litter does quite a reasonable job of masking smells but is doesn't keep them 100% at bay. Up until a rather embarrassing incident recently when one of my girls decided to wait until we had friends round before making the biggest smell ever, I had resisted buying anything to add to the litter to mask smells and keep it fresh. I have always been worried about the cats hating it and refusing to use the tray, however after this I decided to try some. I bought some Glade litter fresh from my local Tesco where it cost me £1.35 for a 500g tub.
The litter fresh comes in a plastic green container very similar to Glades carpet freshener, it has a cartoon type picture of a cat on the front and displays the Glade logo at the top. The front informs the customer that this is cat litter deodorizer and has a few flowers on there I assume to emphasise the freshness of the product.
On opening the tub I gave the litter fresher quick sniff, it has quite a strong smell and in my opinion not that nice, it smells like a bad household cleaner. The actual product is a powdery substance that is a grey/white colour.
To use the litter fresh we just sprinkle a very small amount on the clean litter and mix it in a bit. I was worried my girls would smell it and refuse to use the tray, one of my cats hates change and made herself poorly when we moved the bedrooms around so I was very dubious about how she would react. I need not have worried though they didn't even seem to know the deodorizer was there and went about their business as usual.
We have been using this product in the litter tray for about a month now and I have been very pleased with the results. The litter tray and the area around it smells so much fresher than before, obviously we still clean it out regularly but the litter fresh ensures the tray doesn't get as smelly. Cats are so fussy about their litter trays, as we are about our loos and this really helps to keep nasty smells at bay without upsetting them.
If your fur babies use a tray then I would certainly recommend trying Glade litter fresh, we have been using the tub for a month and its just about all gone so I would say on average you would need to buy one tub a month , of course this depends on how much you sprinkle in, how often you change the litter and wash the tray and how many cats you have, but on the whole its good value for money and keeps litter trays smelling a lot sweeter.
Summary: Makes for a better kitty loo
