Glade Shake N Vac
Advantages: Neutralises odours, easy to use
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, only two fragrances I have seen
I love to have a fresh smelling home. We have numerous air freshers and scented candles etc. I had heard of shake n vac previously and have always considered it to be a bit of a retro product. Shake n vac is a powder that you sprinkle on your carpets prior to vacuuming in order to freshen them up.
I found my bottle of this in asda where I believe I paid around the £1.40 mark for 500g. The bottle tells me that it should cover around 20-22 metres squared. As far as I am aware it is available in two scents, lily of the valley and citrus. I opted for the citrus scent because I love fresh and zingy fragrances and I thought that this scent might be somewhat stronger than the other.
The instructions for use are very simple to follow. You simply sprinkle it on your carpets and then vacuum as usual after a few minutes. The powder is quite coarse and is a bit like washing powder in consistency. It is white and you can immediately detect a citrus scent as soon as you open the bottle.
Initially I was a little concerned that it would be difficult to vacuum up because we have quite deep pile carpets with a compact pattern design. Therefore I was skeptical about whether the powder might get stuck in the pile. However I was pleased to see that it was relatively easy to clean up. I did have to go over the area a little more than usual but this was fine for me. My carpets are cream and the powder was visible on it before vacuuming but it came off easily. I have also used this on my chocolate coloured rug and again the powder came off relatively easily and left no smudges.
The product leaves a faint citrus scent for a day or so after use but it claims to neutralise odours which was the main selling point for me because I think that carpets are very often neglected in cleaning regimes and keeping them fresh will benefit the entire home. I don't think that we had particularly stinky carpets but after using this for the first time I did think it smelled quite fresh in my home.
A 500g bottle of this cleans all of my carpets in my large 1 bedroom flat at least twice. This particular bottle has been used twice and I still have about an eighth of the bottle left.
I like this product and will certainly buy it again. I like the fragrance and also the way it leaves my home smelling fresh. I think it is a bit too expensive to use every time I vacuum so I usually use it once or twice a month. Recommended.
