When I moved house last year the previous owner had two dogs and the carpets smelled of dog, so until I replaced the carpets I was using Glade Shake and Vac to help with the smell. Shake and Vac is a powder carpet freshener that is used by shaking it onto your carpet and then vacuuming it up, this should eliminate lingering household smells, such as dog, smoke or cooking. It comes in three different scents, Lily of the Valley, Magnolia and Vanilla and Citrus Blossom.

I tried them all during the 8 weeks I had before my carpets were replaced and the Citrus Blossom was my favourite as it was fresh and clean smelling, I found the Lily of the Valley to sickly floral and the Magnolia and Vanilla, I just did not like the sweet scent of the vanilla, although the magnolia was quite nice, in combination though it was not for me.

Shake and Vac can be used on dry carpets, and it is not recommend that you use it on carpet tiles or when a pet or small child in the house. I like to leave the powder to work its magic for around 15 minutes and I find that when I vacuum it up the scent lingers around for quite a time after and the scent of dog disappears.

Shake and Vac comes in a plastic long tube, with a flip top lid that is easy to use and allows you to dispense the product evenly onto your carpet. You can usually pick up a 500g pack in the Pound shop, but it is widely available in supermarkets.

Overall I would recommend Shake and Vac to others as it really does help to remove smells and odours, it is widely available and comes in a range of scents that I'm sure you will find a favourite.
