Disadvantages: Smells a little overpowering at first
~*~ The Purchase ~*~
I'd seen this in my local Poundland a few times but wasn't sure if it would actually be any good due to how cheap it was, but in the end I decided to buy it to try and I'm so glad that I did - despite being very cheap it is by far one of the best carpet fresheners that I've used and I pick a few bottles of it up whenever I'm in Poundland now!
~*~ Price ~*~
I buy this this from Poundland and obviously pay just £1.00 per 400ml bottle, which is amazing value for money! Prices do vary as this is quite widely available, but a range of discount stores sell it for £1.00 or sometimes even cheaper, so it's very affordable.
~*~ Product Claims ~*~
The manufacturers say that this is able to eliminate lingering smells including tobacco, pet & cooking odours that can get trapped in carpets. They also state that this will leave your carpets smelling fresh & clean after using it.
~*~ My Opinion ~*~
As I said above, this is definitely one of the best carpet fresheners that I've used and I am really impressed with how effective it is considering the very low price. The product is incredibly easy to use and I've never had any problems with the powder getting stuck in the carpet fibres or leaving any marks or stains and it doesn't clog up my vacuum either. It doesn't leave the carpet feeling gritty or anything either - the powder vacuums up very easily as it is a very fine powder.
The results are always pretty much instant - I just sprinkle a generous amount all over the carpet, vacuum it and it instantly leaves the whole room and carpet smelling fresh and clean. The fresh, clean smell which is quite a summery scent with hints of lemon and vanilla fills the room and lingers for a good few hours and the carpets remain smelling clean for a good few days. Although the smell isn't particularly natural, it isn't overly artificial or chemical smelling.
Although I take good care of my home and keep it clean and smelling fresh, with five dogs and a baby toddling around it is inevitable that the carpet gets a little grubby and stinky, so I make an effort to vacuum at least twice a week. We have a very pale carpet but the powder never leaves any marks despite my initial concerns. It unfortunately does not reduce the appearance of any of the minor marks or stains on my carpet.
However, as this is simply a carpet freshener and not a carpet cleaner or stain remover, I really can not complain!! It does everything that the manufacturers claim and the smell completely gets rid of any doggy smells and any unpleasant odours left behind from my daughter's many food & drink spillages!! Our carpet is very thick with a slightly raised texture but not a huge amount of powder is needed and there's never any bits of powder left stuck onto the carpet fibres or anything.
One 400ml bottle is enough for at least four to five uses, although as we only have the stairs, landing and upstairs bedrooms in our home carpeted this is probably why - if every room in your house is carpeted you will obviously get through a bottle a lot quicker, but it is still a bargain in my opinion as it provides long lasting results and doesn't smell cheap or nasty. On a side note I have actually tried using this on my wooden flooring as well as the Lino flooring in the kitchen and bathroom.
It did actually make the whole room as well as the floor smell fresher but the results obviously weren't as long lasting compared to when I use it on the carpet. I always feel satisfied after using this as the results are so noticeable and I never worry that the dogs will sniff or lick any of the powder up and become ill because it vacuums up so easily and no residue or anything is left behind. I do always make sure that my daughter is out of the room though because I don't want her inhaling any of it as the scent is very strong when I initially use it but this fades after a few hours. As for irritability, I've gotten this on my hands a few times by mistake while shaking it out of the bottle and I suffered no irritation or redness, which is a minor miracle considering how sensitive my skin is!
