A case of shrinking gel.

Advantages: Cheap air freshener
Disadvantages: gel looks awful as it shrinks, fragrance doesn't last long
Fresh air is free and opening the windows and letting in the fresh air is a great way to make your house smell fresh but one that you can't always do as leaving windows open isn't always safe and it has been far too cold recently to leave them open for long. I bought a lovely Wild berry air freshener before Christmas but as this was running out decided to try something different. The choice is overwhelming but I could narrow it down as I didn't want a candle and we don't have a socket in the bathroom so that made the choice somewhat smaller.
Choice of fragrances too makes it easier as some fragrances I don't like as I feel lemon smelling air fresheners makes me think of cleaning products. I prefer Lavender, Magnolia and Vanilla and I quite like fragrances described as sea breeze. The Magnolia and Vanilla is a sweet floral smell, quite pleasant, and not too strong.
I decided to try the solid Glade air freshener which is designed to give continuous freshness. The container will fit into any room as it is plain white plastic, described as "discreet" by the manufacturers and the solid gel inside holds the key to the fresh smell. It stands about 15cm high and is 8cm wide at the base tapering smaller at the top. It is supposed to last up to one month, I have had it just over 2 weeks now and the gel is shrinking but sadly the freshness has faded too. The gel is a deep yellow and looks discoloured at the top edge, not very attractive I'm afraid. It is easy to use as there is just a sticky label to pull off the front of the container, there are no instructions, it just says the fragrance and Glade on the label and that it gives long lasting weeks of freshness. It also says 2 in 1 freshness and fragrance and is made by SC Johnson - a family company.
It has never been a really strong, in your face fragrance but I was aware of it when I entered the bathroom, but now I have to really sniff the container to see if it is working. Maybe it would work better in a different place instead of a shelf in the bathroom, but that is where the last air freshener was and it worked well. When I move it I am still aware of the fragrance, but can't stand swinging it about all day!
Will I buy it again? Probably not, as although it smelled OK to begin with, the fragrance doesn't last well and I dislike the look of the gel when it has shrunk. Cost was between 90pence and £1, so a case of you get what you pay for.
