I purchased these hooks to be used in conjunction with the Bygel rail (55cm= £1.50, 100cm =£2, reviewed separately) to turn it from a simple rail into a convenient kitchen storage solution for my pans and accessories.
The hooks, which are S shaped and made of polished stainless steel are 7cm in length at the longest points, with half the s curve at each end. You simply slot one end of the curve over the Bygel rail, and hang whatever you want off the other end. It's as simple as that.
The hooks are strong and can take a good weight. I've hung various items from mine, from potato mashers and oven gloves, to some quite heavy pans, and the hooks have never shown any sign of strain. They stay on the rail securely, yet can easily be removed for a quick clean, which is just a case of wiping down.
They come in packs of 10 costing just £1. They are also available in pink, black, red, white and lilac colours at £1 for a 6 pack, but the Bygel rail itself only comes in the steel finish.
For a quick easy way to convert a basic rail into hanging storage, these really can't be bettered. You can of course add and remove hooks easily as needed, so if you wished to go back to a basic rail, or only wanted to use a couple of hooks, it's very flexible.
I very much recommend these hooks and the Bygel shelf itself as a flexible and customisable storage system. 5 stars.
I love shopping in Ikea, as there are so many little items that are designed to make your home function better. When we first moved into our current home some 9 years ago, we spent a lot of time and money in Ikea trying to make our home look better.
One of the problems that we had was our kitchen had very little space. There was only one bench about a meter in length for us to use, and then one wall mounted cupboard, and one cupboard under the sink. This was suitable for the lady who lived here before us as she was an old lady living on her own, but as we were a couple and then a family, it was woefully inadequate for our needs so we needed some solutions that didn't require a lot of space.
One of the first things we did was put up a couple of shelves, and we bought a rail to attach to the bottom of the shelves and some of these S shaped hooks to hang our utensils from. I didn't have a drawer to put them in or space to get a pot to stand them in, so this was a great solution for us to have them hanging within reach.
We have since rennovated our kitchen so I now do have drawer space to put these items in if I wish, but I have grown to like the fact my utensils are hanging near my cooker. I like how the hooks and the rail are both silver in colour so it matches my utensils, and it is hung discretely to the bottom of one of my cupboards. The steel is a bit like brushed steel in appearance rather than a shiny silver colour.
We bought these a number of years ago, and it was around £1 for a pack containing 10 of these hooks. What is amazing is they are still this price, or you can now get coloured ones at £1 for 6 hooks. I find that the size of these hooks is perfect. It is easy to put these onto the rail, and all of my utensils have holes in the handle to hang them with. The hooks are sturdy enough that none of them have bent even though some of them are used daily when I take the utensil off the hook to serve my meals. The hooks are near the cooker, so sometimes they do look a bit grubby with food splashes. I find these hooks are easy to clean with a wipe with a damp cloth.
The hooks have never chipped or gone rusty, and I think for the low cost of around 10p per hook, they have been one of my best value purchases for my home as they have stayed in good condition with no sign of wear and tear.
They might not be the sort of thing that everyone wants on show in their home, but I find that they suit my decor well and they are a handy item to own.
These Ikea Bygel Storage S-Hooks are part of the Bygel storage range, and are very reasonably priced at £1.01 for a packet of 6 chunky coloured plastic hooks, or 10 steel coated hooks. We opted for a packet of six black chucky hooks, and the other colours we spotted in store were pink, white, light blue, navy blue and purple. These colours match the colour options available in the Bygel containers (sold seperately). We bought black hooks to go with our black and white container choices.
These hooks attach really well to the Bygel hanging rails (sold seperately for £1.52 or £2.03 depending on required width). They take a firm squeeze to properly attach to the rail, and once on there - they're tightly secured and not at risk of coming back off again. The long hook hangs down for storage convenience purposes and can be used for a variety of reasons. In our craft room, the Mrs has used these to hang little bags from and pairs of craft scissors. If we were using this in the kitchen, as this design was originally intended for, these would be great for hanging kitchen utensils from.
As these are not permenantly attached, you can mix and match and move them around along with other co-ordinating items from the range to suit your changing storage needs. I like the flexibility of this, as it means that once outgrown, you can just make changes to the system rather than have to change the whole thing.
For just over £1 you're getting good value for money here. These aren't just cheap plastic hooks, they're a well designed and convenient storage solution when used with the Bygel hanging rail. They fit snuggly onto the bar and they will support at least a kg of weight without bowing or bending (not bad for a tiny bit of plastic). They look good and I like that you can choose colours to co-ordinate with the other items in the range too. Definitely recommended if you're looking at this storage system.
