Advantages: cheap, good quality for the price
Disadvantages: can't be tumble dried
I have half a dozen of these Irma Ikea throws. I use them outdoors as fleecy blankets in the summer time. We can continue to sit outside in the evenings, even if it cools down, by just wrappping yourself in one of these. I have half a dozen so that we have enough for guests as well.
I chose these because they were cheap! I wanted cheap throws to use outdoors as I didn't want to spend an awfull lot as they are likely to get ruined. When I saw these in Ikea at just over a pound each I grabbed them. They currently retail for £1.59 each, I'm sure that last summer I only paid around £1.30 each, but even so £1.59 each is hardly expensive.
The Irma throw is just available in one colour, a baby blue, it wasn't really my colour of choice but for the price I went for them anyway. There is also a small square baby blue Irma cushion available at just 89 pence.
The throw measures 170cm by 130cm, so it's a fairly decent size, certainly plenty big enough to wrap around yourself. It's actually really soft and fleecy and warm, and superb quality for the price, people are always absolutely amazed by the fact that they were just over a pound each from Ikea. They look and feel far more expensive than this.
They are machine washable, but you can't put them in the tumble dryer. I can vouch that you can't put them in the tumble dryer as I decided to chance it with a couple of them and they shrank to half the original size! They do wash really well though, they don't look quite as good as new after the first wash, but not far from it, mine have been washed lots of times and they are still perfectly fine. I'll definately get another summer out of them.
The design is simple, they are just a rectangular plain baby blue fleecy throw, the corners are rounded off not square. That's it, no tassels, no patterns, nothing. I don't mind this though I think that they look classier for this. Plus what did you expect for £1.59!
Overall I've been really impressed with these, especially for the low price. I would buy them again, in fact I did replace the two I shrunk in the dryer. I will get another summer out of mine, but I see no reason not to replace them with the same again the following summer, providing Ikea still sell them of course.
Summary: a bargain, quality throws, you won't get better for the price
