Ikea Lampan Table Lamp
Advantages: 3 colours, cheap, funky
Disadvantages: don't give off an awfull lot of light
I have various Ikea Lampan table lamps dotted all over the house. For the price you really can't beat them.
The Ikea Lampan table lamp comes in three different colours; red, white and grey, and they cost just £2.69 each. You don't get a bulb included in the package, you do have to buy the bulb seperately, but hey for £2.69 did you really expect it to come with a bulb!
There is a tiny bit of self assembly involved in a Lampan light, but it is literally just inserting a light bulb, and then attaching the shade to the base. The lamp itself doesn't come in a box, the base is just inverted inside the shade and then the whole thing is shrink wrapped in plastic. I guess that this helps to keep the cost of the lamp so low.
At the end of the day this is just a plastic lamp, it does only cost £2.69 after all, but placed in the right spot and the right setting they can look really effective. Another thing to point out is that they don't actually give out an awfull lot of light, they are definately more of a background light source than a useable light source. I do however really like these, I think that they are quite a funky little design, I think that the shade looks just like an upside down cupcake liner.
I initially bought two of these in red to use as bedside lamps in the spare bedroom. They look nice enough and were obviously a bargain price. However the red one doesn't actually give off enough light to read by if you only have the bedside lamp on. So I then decided to swap things around a bit and move the red ones elsewhere, and I bought two of these in white instead for the spare bedroom. The white ones do give off enough light to read by - just. I haven't bought any of these in grey, but I do suspect that they will be just like the red, not bright enough to read by as a bedside lamp.
The lamp does come with a quite a long cord - 2m, so you don't need to place it right next to a plug socket. The switch to turn the lamp on and off is located on the power cord near to the base of the lamp.
