When it comes to ironing board covers, I seem to do something wrong as within a year or too, they are to rip or come away from the ironing board. Previously, I would just buy a new ironing board as I didn’t realise there was such a thing as a replacement cover until I spotted these in Homebase.
This is a JML cover so it is only available in JML stockist, these include places such as Homebase, Argos, Wilkos and Asda, there are several more so if you look on the JML website, there is a full list. This retails for £6.99, prices are pretty standard as these tend to be set by JML and adhered to by the stores.
I picked mine up from Homebase as my dad used to work there and pointed it out to me one day.
The cover is available in several different sizes, and funky colours and patterns, we chose one that has a pretty tame in comparison to some of the others, it is cream with brightly coloured circles on. Adding the cover to my existing ironing board was really easy, the cover as an elasticated underside along with a drawstring underneath so I simply added the cover to my ironing board and pulled the strings together and then it was ready to go. The cover stays in place really well and doesn’t move as I iron. The cover will fit boards which measure up to 130cm in length and 49cm wide.
As soon as I started to use this, I noticed a difference in the time it took me to iron clothes, the cover is really thick and made up of three different layers, the first is a polyester underlay which ensures that you don’t get the marks from your ironing board coming through to your clothes, the second is a reflective layer which is designed to let you iron both sides at once – by this I mean normally, I would iron the front of a top then turn is over and do the otherside, this this though, the heat reflects back and irons both sides at the same time which is great, especially for someone like me who hates ironing. And finally, is the top layers, this is just material which has a slightly rough feel to it which prevents my clothes from slipping of the ironing board.
I would recommend this, it is a good quality cover for an affordable price therefore this gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
Thanks for reading.
==Price and Availability==
I use my ironing board a lot and after two and a half years my ironing board cover is looking a bit worse for wear. My Mum bought the JML Ironing Board Cover a couple of months before me and said how good it was so I decided to get one too. The cover is available from a few different places including the JML website, Argos and Homebase. My Mum bought hers from Homebase for £8.99 but I managed to get mine from Dunelm for just under £5.50 a few months ago and it's still selling at the same price now.
==JML Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover==
The cover comes in plastic packaging to protect it with a zip lock fastening and the top and a hanger for when it's displayed in the shop. There are many different colours and designs available on these covers, some are nice, and some are a bit garish. Even though my ironing board is stored in a cupboard I still wanted a cover that I wouldn't mind leaving out so I opted for a rainbow striped cover which believe it or not is one of the less colourful options! The ironing board cover has elasticated edges which enable it to fit the majority of different ironing boards, I have a Brabantia board which is pretty big and this cover offers a perfect fit. The surface of the cover is made from a non- slip cotton and it has a heat reflecting thick underlay which allows both sides of clothes to be ironed at the same time. The JML ironing board cover is also machine washable.
As I mentioned before this cover fits my large ironing board really well. I put the cover on the board on my own and didn't have any problems, the elasticated edges make it really easy to fit, as my ironing board is quite big it's quite snug but I haven't had any problems with the cover coming off or rolling up at all. The non- slip cotton surface is really effective, nothing seems to slide off my board anymore and it saves a lot of faffing as previously some clothes just wouldn't stay on my ironing board, unless I was constantly holding them down. I've found the underlay to be quite effective too, on some items I find I only have to iron clothes on one side so it does make my life easier. On other items the heat reflection is less effective and I do end up ironing both sides but it does remove some creases so it's still easier to use than my previous ironing board cover. I find washing the cover really handy, I've only had it a few months but I did get a few marks on it which washed off really easily and keep my cover looking as good as new.
This JML Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover is a really good product; it's a good price and makes life easier when it comes to ironing. The cover was in my experience very easy to fit and comes in a variety of different patterns to suit different tastes. The design of the cover does make ironing a bit easier, and overall I've been pleased with my purchase.
My intention was to get a replacement ironing board cover for my Brabantia ironing board that wouldn't cost a fortune like the original ones do. Not only did I achieve this, but I also managed to stumble across a cover that cut my ironing time in half. I never thought I'd be so impressed by an ironing board cover, but the JML one is brilliant.
I almost convinced myself not to buy a JML product after many disappointing purchases of them in the past. However, for the price of £5.99 from my local supermarket and a recommendation from a fellow shopper, I gave it a go. There were plenty of different designs to choose from including spots, stripes, floral and funky colours, so if the appearance of the ironing board cover is a major factor to anyone then it won't be a problem.
My main concern was that my board is slightly smaller than average so was hopeful it would fit. Luckily, the cover has elastic all round the outside so it could simply be pulled into place. The cover was initially a bit creased and puffed up in places but by running a hot iron over it for a couple of minutes this is soon remedied.
The cover has a non-slip surface which means that even delicate items such as silk, or larger items prone to slipping off the board, stay in position, saving a lot of messing about. The best thing I found, however, is what JML claim to be the reflective layer. The packaging claims that a layer of fabric within the cover reflects heat, which means the other side of the garment to where the iron is will also be ironed. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that this worked very well, and garments did not need turning over to do the other side. This not only cut down my ironing time but also helped save overuse of a poorly arm that I have.
This is a great product at a great price. It's machine washable, it fits any ironing board and it looks good - it has improved JML's reputation in my eyes.
I have had my ironing board for almost 6 years and the cover is really on its last legs. Trouble is, because it didn't really seem something vital or exciting to spend my money on, I kept putting it off. However recently, anytime my in laws have been up and looker after my daughter, my mother in law has always (and very kindly) found her way to the ironing basket and kept my ironing up to date. Due to this, I thought I really had better replace the cover, and it forced me into parting with my cash! Whilst in Dunelm a couple of weeks ago, I noticed these JML fast fit ironing board covers for £5.49 on a stand, and for that money, I didn't really feel I would get better. Plus, I was taken by this because I couldn't be sure what the exact size of my ironing board was and since this one claimed to be an almost universal fit, I hoped it would do the job and it did!
This JML Fast fit Ironing board cover comes in a variety of colours and patterns. I wasn't overly worried what cover I got, although there were a few that I did feel where a little too much for my taste. I opted for a blue and white patterned cover.
This cover claims to be easy to fit and offer a non slip surface to help keep clothes, even silk etc in place, to try to take the hassle out of ironing. I have to say that I would agree with both these claims. I found it incredibly easy to fit. THe material has elastic the entire way round and even though I initially thought it looked a little on the big size for my ironing board, it seemed to fit snug when I actually got it around the edges and particularly at the top. I was very impressed even at this point. IN terms of keeping clothes in place, I would agree. I can see the huge difference between this cover and my original cover that was hardly fit for anything. I have found it easier to iron some of the trickier items, that very often end up being left in the bottom of the basket in the hope that someday I'll iron them! It hasn't made my own ironing skills any better but I do think it has made the job easier for me.
The cover is also machine washable, although I have had no need to try this out so cannot comment on this. It also claims to have a 'super thick' underclay to reflect heat so you can iron both sides at the same time. I'm not sure that this claim holds up 100% but I do think it helps a lot and the other side is not as creased using this cover as opposed to my last one.
All in all, I am really impressed with this cover. It has been brilliant and I do feel a little silly that I didn't just buy one sooner! But now that I have I would thoroughly recommend this cover!
One of my more successful impulse buys recently has been the JML fast fit ironing board cover. It was on offer at half price in my local Sainsburys - just £3.50 instead of the normal £7 - so I thought I'd try it.
I had no idea as to the measurements of my ironing board back home when I bought this item but since the front of the pack proclaimed that it 'fits almost any size board' I hoped it would fit mine.
Actually, I have two ironing boards in my house: a Brabantia (ironing surface size 124cm x 38cm) with a very tatty cover which continually shifts about on the surface and has basically had its day; and an Argos value range ironing board (100cm x 33cm ironing surface) which I was given by a well meaning relative who hoped it might come in handy for when my daughter started university. This board has no cover at all. So, my new cover awaited two possible candidates.
The ironing board cover comes in a plastic bag with an cardboard insert cleverly shaped like a shirt lying on an ironing board. The pack announces that it fits in seconds, reflects heat, has a non-slip surface, is machine washable, and is elasticated- fits almost any size board. When I purchased the cover I couldn't see very well what the pattern was, although it looked pleasantly colourful from the bits I could see. From the six different designs in the 'Expressions range' shown on the back of the product it appeared I had chosen the 'Pick N' Mix' design which is of sweets and cupcakes. There is also a leopard print (Wild Thing), a cherry print (Very Cherry), a paw print one, a cow print and a strawberry print one in this range. The cover has approximate fitting dimensions of 139cm x 49cm.
Experience of the product:
When I got it home, I put the cover in the washing machine for a quick freshen up on a 30 degree setting. It washed well and dried quickly out on the line. (The product cannot be tumble dried.) I tried it for size on my two boards. It fit quite snugly on my larger board. I was impressed with the amount of padding on the cover. It felt almost luxuriously padded in comparison with the flimsy old thing I'd just removed. Fitting and removing this new cover is simple because it is elasticated all the way around. It is as easy as putting on a shower cap. There is none of this awkward messing about pulling on strings and tying them off underneath the board (which in twenty years of using ironing boards, I never felt I'd got absolutely right). The cover is also aesthetically pleasing.
On my small value range board the cover was clearly a bit too big - but having said that, it was still sitting in place over the board. Even though there was a bit flopping over the end, the elasticated trim fit securely over one end of the board. I tried ironing on it and it was fine - it stayed in place even on the small board.
I think, however, it has a permanent home on my Brabantia board. It makes for a really lovely ironing surface; the iron seems to glide over the thick padded surface. It has a non-slip top layer which stops clothes from sliding around. This is useful when tackling some delicate fabrics which can slide about as you try to iron them.
I can't say ironing has suddenly become a pleasurable experience - but this cover certainly dulls the pain. It is without doubt the best ironing board cover I have ever purchased and I can hardly believe I only paid £3.50 for it.
Would recommend. 5 dooyoo stars.
I hate my ironing board and moan about it every time I use it and then forget till the next time I get it out. The cover that was on there was really thin and you could feel the board underneath it and I think this made it much harder to iron my clothes.
I saw this in my local Asda and it reminded me that I needed one. I had seen adverts on the TV for the brand so thought id give it a go.
I paid about £7 for mine which I thought was quite a lot considering I could probably get a whole new ironing board for £20 but I thought id give it a try.
When I got it home I got my husband to fit it as im not great at doing practical things! He said it was really easy to do infact he had done it in no time at all. The edges of the cover are elastic so it simply just pulls over your ironing board and that's it job done.
I tried it out straight away the thing that I noticed straight away was how cushioned it felt when I was doing the ironing. The surface is also non slip so if you are ironing silk or shirts etc they stay where you put them and don't slide onto the floor like they normally would
I now love ironing (well maybe not love it!)but this has definitely made it more enjoyable and easier than it was before. I also loved all the funky designs that were available it certainly brightens the kitchen up.
I would tell everyone to get one of these they are brilliant!!
I, like most people cannot stand ironing. I try to avoid it where I can but unfortunately my husband and I work jobs where we need to be dressed smart at all times. This means that trousers, jackets and shirts often need ironing as well as other items when we are going out with friends or just generally wanting to smarten up our look. My husband often claims to be rubbish at ironing yet if I am away visiting relatives or on business he somehow manages to iron his own shirts and other items. My husband has a logo on his work shirts and on more than one occasion with our old irons he managed to iron some of the black on to the iron and then on to the ironing board. I found that no matter what I did I couldn't actually get this to wash off either the iron or the ironing board so I needed to find myself a new cover.
My ironing board is from Ikea, as my last one got broken when I dropped it by accident, and it seems to be a fairly normal sized board. The ironing board cover that I purchased was from JML and came from Wilkinsons, I believe I paid somewhere between £6 and £7 but I can't remember exactly how much. This is advertised as being a fast fit ironing board cover designed to fit pretty much every size ironing board in a matter of seconds. My particular cover is the purple spotted one which is quite widely available from what I can see and this can be purchased on Amazon for a similar price to what I paid also. I am not fussy about what my ironing board looks like despite not liking to keep my board with a dirty cover on it.
This ironing board cover has an elasticated edge, for simple fitting, 3mm thick foam for a smooth glide over the top with your iron and a thick polyester underlay that allows heat to be reflected allowing you to iron both sides of something with ease. Now when fitting this ironing board cover to our ironing board it becomes clear that this is designed with even the largest ironing boards in mind. This means that there is lots of excess underneath my ironing board cover and when ironing I would find that the excess would start to bunch back up towards the ironing board meaning that I ironed over this and ironed creases back in to items I had almost finished ironing. This means that this ironing board cover hasn't been perfect from the start and I've had to fashion a way to gather up the excess underneath with a colour of large hair grip things to keep the cover that is across my ironing board taut and smooth. Without using hair grips to hold the excess in place this ironing board cover would actually be completely unusable.
With regards to the reflective surface this does work well and I only ever had to iron one side of shirts and other items but then I always have done this, even if the results haven't been 100%.
It is fair to say that I am going to rate this cover 1/5 stars. I feel that it is not as sturdy or robust as it looks as the gathering has lead to a couple of small tears and I'm sure that if I didn't have the excess gathered up that I wouldn't be able to iron on this at all. This cover really needs a bet way to adjust the excess as there is lots of wasted material and it just doesn't fit snugly at all. My neighbour, whose ironing board I borrowed when I broke my previous one, has a massive ironing board from Brabantia and I am sure that this would probably fit comfortably, however my ironing board is perhaps just a normal medium/small sized one and so this cover is massively oversized.
I would say that if you own a large Brabantia ironing board that this cover would be ideal for you, however if you have a normal supermarket board or Ikea board then this probably isn't going to be good for you at all. 1/5 from me - a disappointment.
I detest ironing and I have as little to do with it as possible, being happy to leave my husband in charge of most ironing related tasks. Unfortunately, this resulted in my husband deciding to wash our original ironing board cover as it was looking grubby and then finding it impossible to fit it back on to the ironing board afterwards! I find the price of ironing boards to be extortionate so agreed with my other half's suggestion of simply buying a replacement cover rather than replacing the ironing board itself.
Our ironing board is quite a large model, (124cm by 40cm) made under Wilkinson's own brand, but seems a fairly standard size. When my husband returned with this Fast Fit ironing board cover produced by JML, we were both confident that this should fit our board, particularly as the packaging boasts that this easy fit cover 'fits almost every board.'
For some reason, my 'better half' saw fit to choose a pretty lurid 'Wild Thing' leopard print design, part of JML's Expressions collection. I'm sure this range could be described as a fun and vibrant selection of designs although I'd say tacky and garish is a more accurate description. Personally, I don't care too much about the physical appearance of an ironing board (or its cover) so long as it's functional, particularly as ours is stored away out of sight for most of the time.
Aside from the tasteless design, first impressions of the quality of the cover were fairly positive. The fabric felt fairly thick and strong to the touch and had the reassurance of a polyester underlay to provide a thick and smooth surface for easy and efficient ironing. Unfortunately, when it came to fitting the cover we found this thickness to be more of a hindrance than a benefit. Being a universal 'one size fits all' cover, this clearly has been designed to fit even larger ironing boards than ours. This meant that there was an obvious excess of material. In theory this shouldn't have been too much of an issue as it meant that the cover was relatively easy to slip into position around the edges and sides of the ironing board. The cover has elasticated sides so it can be stretched slightly to secure into position although I do think the 'fits in seconds' claim is a little exaggerated.
The main difficulty that we experienced with this cover was that the generous sizing meant that the fabric was not stretched taut enough once in position. The result was that the supposedly smooth cotton cover was instead covered in bumps and ridges which was far from an ideal ironing surface. Unfortunately, aside from the elasticated edges there is no system of tightening or reducing the surface area of this cover - some ties at the base of the cover would have been ideal- rendering the cover pretty much unusable for our size and style of ironing board.
Whilst the logical thing would have been to take this cover straight back to Wilkinsons for a refund, what we actually did (rather stupidly) was attempt to adjust and re-position the cover to form a tighter and smoother fit. Unfortunately, all that this re-adjusting did was to reveal that the cover was not actually as robust as its initial appearance suggested. One tug too many and the cover tore completely across one end, with the elasticated edging coming away in its entirety, meaning that this cover went straight into the bin!
Whilst this JML cover might be a suitable fit for extra large (possibly Brabantia style) ironing boards, our experience suggests that this is far from a universal fit. The cover would be much more versatile with the inclusion of some means of adjusting the fit accordingly. I was also disappointed that the cover ripped so easily, particularly as this was not a budget offering.
The cover cost £6.50 from Wilkinsons but I'm not able to recommend it based on my experience with fitting the cover. We ended up using a Minky Easy Fit cover which was actually less expensive (at £5.50) and was actually a perfect fit, resulting in a perfectly smooth surface. I'd advise considering the size of your board carefully and would only recommend this more expensive JML version if you own a particularly large ironing board.
A friend told me a few years ago that she had a decent iron and ironing board cover and so she only ever had to iron one side of her clothing hence cutting her ironing time in half which certainly appealed to me. We needed a new iron so I decided it was worth getting a decent ironing board cover at the same time to test the theory.
The JML range is available in a number of different shops such as Tesco, Asda and the range but we bought our cover from Tesco and it cost about £5 which was a decent price but about double the price of Tesco's own product.
You can get the ironing board covers in a range of designs, it doesn't really matter what the cover is like in our house as the ironing board sits in the cupboard when not in use so it's never really seen by anyone. I personally like blue and purple colours so picked the cover which is pictured above with lots of different shades of purple in circles on a deep lilac background which I found rather pretty.
The ironing board cover came simply packaging in a partly see through plastic packet making it pretty easy to open too. On the front of the packaging you have the name of the company with the name of the product and the promise that it will fit almost any ironing board. I had chosen a wide ironing board when we had bought it thinking it would mean I could ironing more of the garment each time but had since found it was hard to find ironing board covers big enough for it so was a little sceptical that this cover would fit.
The cover has a strong elastic through the edges which hold it perfectly in place without any slipping and it was pretty easy to fit onto the ironing board being able to be used within a minute or so. It is a couple of years since I bought the cover so I can't tell you exact details but do remember that it stated that due to the material it is made from it helps to hold garments in place on the ironing board rather than them slipping off onto the floor and the padding underneath help reflect the heat back up therefore making ironing your clothes easier and less time consuming which I think is a lot to get from a £5 product.
I found that the cover certainly lived up to all its promises, it is easy to fit and it does stay still on the ironing board and it does help to hold clothing in place which is great for me as with young children I often have to go into the other room to stop the arguing and can leave my garments on the board with this cover. The cover is really thick and you can feel it is great quality and along with my iron that I bought at the same time I did find it was possible to just iron one side of the clothing and the other side sort of irons itself. I still had to iron both sides of jeans but it certainly saves on ironing time.
I used this ironing board cover for about 3 years and have only recently had to get rid of it, when it gets dirty you can wash it at 40 degrees although I do all my washing on either 30 or 60 degrees depending on what I am washing and I found it washed well at 30 degrees. My ironing board cover had started to lose its thickness which I think is acceptable after 3 years and was actually probably sped up in the process as my ironing board was breaking at the time and the metal was sticking through into the cover. I haven't replaced my ironing board yet but as soon as I do I will be buying another one of these covers as to me anything that reduces ironing time is a godsend.
I am currently using a JML Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover on my ironing board as I read a review on it and opted for it once I needed a new ironing board cover. I picked it up from Wilkinsons for £6.99 which, I feel, is a very reasonable price and one that I was willing to pay.
There are several different covers to choose from, and they are all bright and cheerful. I opted for a ironing board cover that had a white background and was then covered in over-sized polka dots of differing colours. I know it shouldn't really matter what the ironing board cover looks like, but it is nice to be surrounded by things that look cheerful.
The cover is a one-size fits all design. It is 140 cm x 50 cm and so it would fit any ironing board I've ever seen. To fix it it is just a matter of placing the ironing board cover on top of the ironing board and then pulling the elasticated edges over the ironing board so that it is a snug fit. It does fit my ironing board snugly and so the cover is pulled taut and there are not wrinkles or bunching up of the material.
One of the things that is good about this ironing board is that the cover is reflective of heat and therefore it says that you can iron both sides of a garnet at one time. I have to admit that for the majority of the time this does seem to be true, although there are some thicker garments that I will still need to iron both sides.
Overall, I think this is a good basic design and it does everything that I would want an ironing board cover to do!
==JML Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover==
Another fad from JML - I hear you say! But not (so much) this time, because I'm about to review one of their longest running products - the Fast Fit ironing board cover. Many of us own Ironing Boards in our home (I don't - Mum does!) & they do require an ironinng board cover to cushion the ironing board & the clothing itself. Many ironing board covers are available on the market today for a wide range of ironing boards, but it does all depend on personal preference. Hardly any of us like ironing at all, do we??? We just want to get it done & over with! Obviously getting the ironing quicker & easier is choosing the right iron, some will prefer the traditional steam irons & some will prefer the more advanced steam generators. Secondly a good ironing board & cover will do the job briliantly too. After you've chose your good ironing board (may I recommend Minky or Brabantia) you need a good ironing board cover. Amazingly you can buy an ironing cover for only £1.99! Anyway the most expensive is £12.99 on the Argos Website! This JML Fast Fit Ironing board cover can be found in most stores such as ASDA, Wilkos, £ stretcher etc. A quick look on the Argos website tells me the Fast Fit ironing board cover is available for £6.99 (on offer at the moment for £5.59 Save 20%)
==About the Product==
The JML Fast Fit Ironing Board cover is available in several stylish, traditional & contempary designs, from classic pegs or flowers to a stylish bright yellow honeycomb style or contempary purple circles & ovals (above). The Fast Fit Ironing Board cover has 3 layers, an under layer which cushions the above 2 layers & irons over the back of buttons, which prevents you struggling to iron between them. The second layer (middle layer) is a heat reflective lining, which prevents the need for you to iron both sides. Jeans, for example, on a regular cover need to be ironed on both sides, whilst with the Fast Fit cover, you only need to iron one side, as the heat is reflected, so there is no need to iron one side. This saves time. This has the same effect as one of those Silver metallic ironing board covers, but it looks nicer than a Silver thing over your ironing board. The top layer is a non-slip surface, which means even delicate items like Silk, won't slip off. The best thing about this ironing board cover to me, is the fact that it will fit any size board, so if you buy a new ironing board, you're able to refit the old ironing board cover. The cover itself is washable too so you're also able to wash it in the washing machine to get it like new.
As it's my chore to do the ironing I use this cover most often as it's my mothers choice of ironing board cover. The cover itself slides on to our Minky ironing board perfectly. There are a few lumps & bumps when you put it on but after a couple of ironing sessions the ironing board cover smooths itself out across the board nicely & fits snugly. My cover does have a few creases but again a hot iron across the cover smooths them out. The packaging does recommend that you run a hot iron across the cover so none of the dye transfers on to your clothes but gladly none came off. When it came time to wash it I hand washed it in some colour detergent & a bit of fabric conditioner. I then spun it & let it dry flat on the ironing board. After washing the cover it seems to perform better & feels softer too. The video on the JML Direct website says that for stubborn creases you can spray water on to the cover & the cover will absorb it so when you iron over it (& the fabric) a flow of steam will rise off the service & blow creases away.
I had a load of washing that needed doing so I thought this would be a good test. I firstly tried it on a pair of Jeans & started with these. The video uses Jeans as an example for the 'Reflective Surface' so I would do my own test. These particular pair of jeans were quite creased so hopefully the Cover would work. I ironed one side of the Jeans & was amazingly impressed to find the other side was CREASE-FREE! I then used the cover on some T-Shirts, Jumpers & Trousers, which had the same result! This cover has cut my ironing time down by 1/2! The Fast Fit cover also has the same effect on bedding - & we all know how hard bedding is to iron! You have to keep folding & refilding, & when you put it on the bed to find its only creased again! For the difficult bits - I have actually used the spray & steam bit which is true to it's word, remove creases effectively!
This JML Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover is extremely true to it's word! It's got the reflective layer, it's attractive, available in loads of styllish designs, machine washable, effective at crease removal & it fits snuggly on any ironing board! I just love this cover! So, if you want to reduce your ironing time, get a nice looking ironing board & achive professional results every time - buy this!
==Thanks for Reading==
When it comes to ironing board covers I have often struggled to find one that fits my board securely. I have owned my ironing board for many years and it is one of the larger ones on the market. Unfortunately many of the ironing board covers in the shops are made to fit a smaller board than mine and I have struggled at times to find one to fit larger boards.
This has resulted in me having to take covers back to shops and also struggle to fit one or two I have purchased to my ironing board, where much pulling and tying of strings has been needed to try and achieve a secure fit. Indeed there is nothing worse than the cover sliding around the ironing board when you are trying to iron and as ironing is a task most folk don't particularly enjoy to start with, you do want it to be as easy an experience as possible.
I recently began looking out for a new ironing board cover once again and was shopping in my local Morrisons when I spotted some. Unfortunately they were too small, but as I continued with my shopping I discovered some more hanging near the end of another aisle and a closer look revealed that these were JML fast fit ironing board covers. I had never seen these before and although at £5.99 they were slightly more expensive than the other covers, I was intrigued by the elasticated fit which promised these covers will fit almost any size board.
The packaging stated "as seen on tv" which is often the case with JML products and the cover itself appeared to be quite thick and overall a good quality product from what I could make out.
The packaging also told me that the cover will fit ironing boards up to 139cm x 49 cm and so I decided to buy one. I liked the idea of not having to tie strings etc but did wonder if it would indeed fit securely to my board.
JML state that these covers have strong elasticated edges and it will only take seconds to fit and fix firmly in place. The cover also has a non-slip 100% cotton surface which will keep garments secure on the board and create a smooth ironing surface every time. The cover has a thick polyester underlay which retains and reflects the heat back into the fabric which helps reduce ironing time, which is something I think most people would find appealing!
The covers are available in around six different striking designs which are shown on the packaging. Unfortunately Morrisons only had two of the designs in stock, a brightly coloured striped design and a white cover featuring brightly coloured pegs. They were quite 'loud' designs, but the peg design appealed to me more than the stripes, plus at the end of the day it is only an ironing board cover after all so it shouldn't matter much. I would have preferred the purple design shown in the photograph here, but as long as the cover serves it purpose then I am happy.
After removing the cover from its packaging when I got home, I was impressed by the quality and indeed it is the thickest cover I have ever purchased. Fitting it on to my board was as easy as it promised to be and the strong, thick elastic was snugly secured around the board in a matter of seconds. I was impressed.
You are advised to iron the cover after fitting it to the board to both smooth it out and seal the dye used to produce the pattern. After doing this, I then ironed a few garments and was really happy with the cover. It never moved and its thick quilted design ensures a comfortable ironing experience. I also found that heat does indeed reflect and I didn't have to iron both sides of many garments, thus reducing the ironing time.
A few weeks on and I am happy to report that this fast fit cover from JML is by far the best ironing board cover I have ever purchased. I cannot fault it at all and wouldn't hesitate to buy another, but I have a feeling this will last me a long time. You can also remove it and machine wash it on a 40 degree wash.
I purchased my fast fit cover from Morrisons priced at £5.99 but you can also purchased these covers online from Amazon and from JMLdirect.com.
It really frustrates me when my ironing board cover starts to get thin as when you iron your clothes over it you start to get marks in your fabric from the ironing board below, not a good look but that is where these ironing board covers from JML are such a good, cheap product. I don't know about you but I always have trouble finding a nice ironing board cover on the high street, them seem to want to make you just buy a whole new ironing board and not just the cover but I already have a good ironing board so these covers by post are a great deal.
According to their website, these JML board covers are the UK's number 1 ironing board cover and have been bought by over 10 million customers, that's a lot of ironing taking place. At just £6.99 I don't think they are too badly priced and I bought two recently to have one as a spare.
The cover is extremely easy to fit to your existing ironing board. It has elasticated edges and so you just pull it over your ironing board and it fits snugly and after that it does not move around or get all crumpled up and pulled to one side once you are ironing. The cover is made of a special cotton non-slip surface and I have to say that once I place my husbands shirts on the cover they do stay there nicely and don't move whilst I maneuver them around to iron the different parts. I hate it when you are trying to iron something and it slips off the board and you need to pick it up from the floor time and time again.
The cover is quite thick too and has a really chunky underlay so there is no risk of the iron coming through underneath and marking your shirts and clothing. I have had my cover for a few weeks now and is still just as bouncy and I expect it to last for quite a while yet before getting thin and threadbare. The covers are machine washable but to be honest I have not washed them yet so I cannot comment on this aspect of them.
There are a number of different designs you can buy. I'm a bit of a sucker for spots, I love them and so the spotty ironing board cover I recently bought was great. It has lots of different spots and colours, pink, blue, black, yellow and green but there are also other designs such as lemons, washing pegs and stripes to keep every customer happy!
I am sure we have all seen one JML advert or another recently - they are all over the place! JML are renowned for being the place to go for the latest home gadget, whether it be the microfibre cloths or this easy-fit ironing board cover, JML have everything you could want for your home - and a lot of things you never imagined were available aswell. Personally I like to see what JML have to offer, if I like the product then I always shop around as I believe their prices to be quite high.
One product I did buy from JML Direct is the Fast Fit Ironing Board Cover. Priced at £5.99 it is a little more expensive than most basic ironing board covers but I had a personal recommendation from a friend for the product so I knew it would be more use to me than a regular cover from the supermarket for example. The packaging suggests that the cover will fit your existing ironing board snugly and with ease - which it did. Sometimes you have to be careful as to which size you buy to fit your particular ironing board, but I had no problems with the JML one. The elasticated edges of the cover give a tight fit to any ironing board and the application to the ironing board was very simple.
The very thick lining of the ironing board cover reflects heat which means that when you iron a garment the underside is also ironed too. Since beginning to use the JML ironing board cover I have found ironing is much easier now and that a lot of the effort is taken out of the job. The pattern on my ironing board cover is a number of differently colours random spots on a white background and as it is machine washable this makes for easy cleaning aswell. There are a range of six designs and so there is something for everyone. The quality of the cover is much better than I expected from JML and the cover has lasted over a year with a number of machine washes, so it is robust and long-lasting. The best £5.99 you will ever spend for reducing your workload in the home.
JML do come up with some gimmicky ideas but a lot of their ideas are well thought out. A while ago I bought some of the JML Toastabags, we used to be able to buy a similar product years ago, we liked them then and we love the new JML Toastabags too.
The majority of ironing boards live in cupboards ( well mine does anyway!), so it is a clear case of out of sight and out of mind, that is until you open the door and take the infernal board out of its hiding place to use. My ironing board was clad with a home-made cover that was on it's last legs, it was one that I made out of an old woollen blanket.
To cut a long story short the woolly cover looked disgusting and it was filled with iron marks so it had to be replaced. JML seemed to be one of the most obvious websites to look at, now and again I get a caller from Betterware but he is a little bit hit and miss at the best of times.
I wanted a good quality plain ironing board cover and JML had just the thing advertised for £5.99p.
Ironing boards are not the prettiest of items but JML have tried their level best to make a silk purse from a sows ear and they have made the cover in a few different designs, there are stripes, retro, spots, stones, pegs and lemons.
I rather fancied the stripy cover, it reminded me of a deckchair !
This JML ironing board cover is a one size fits all and it couldn't be simpler to put on, the cover slides over the top of the board and the elasticated edges hold the cover tightly in place.
I was quite surprised at the thickness of the JML cover but the underlay ensures that the heat is reflected as soon as you start to press your clothes, this means that you are pressing both sides in one fell swoop. The cover has a non slip surface ( made from cotton) and JML say that it will easily hold the lightest of fabrics securely in place.
The JML cover has another feather in its cap, when you iron the cover stays firmly in place, the fabric doesn't crease or crumple under the heat and if you are using the steam function on your iron you will find that the cover stays quite dry.
JML say that the ironing board cover is washable, mine is still on the ironing board so I cannot comment on that part. I find that ironing board covers soon get a bit tatty looking anyway, I always seem to scorch mine !
JML have a good website that is very user friendly, it is also easy to navigate. The Fast fit ironing board cover is on there, just type those words into the search box and it will come up.
I am pleased with my cover, at least it looks tidy and at £5.99p it is a good price too.
You may or may not notice that JML have sold in excess of 8 million of these Fast fit ironing board covers in the UK alone so I feel that has to be a good recommendation.
