Snuggle up in a Snuggie!
Member Name: Wickedinrock
Advantages: Warm, soft, can use your arms and not feel the chill!
Disadvantages: Can't walk round in it easily or do anything active!
What is a Snuggie?
The Snuggie from JML is in effect a massive blanket with arms. The blanket comes in one size only and will fit just about anyone! It is designed to be worn a bit like a gown you would wear in hospital or at the hairdressers! You put your arms into the holes from the front and pull it on and around you. The Snuggie is so huge that you can cover your whole body with it and where dressing gowns can leave the legs cold, this covers you from neck to toes. At only 5'3 there is a good extra foot or two at the bottom to tuck under my feet so that my body is actually completely covered!
The Snuggie works as a blanket but the great and novel thing about it is that it allows the hands to move freely so that you can still read a book, drink a cup of tea, change channel on the TV remote or even write reviews on your laptop! For me this is ideal because I'm very fidgety and always moving about doing things - I can't just relax on the settee for half an hour. It means that you don't need to move your whole body out of a blanket exposing your arms to the cold; they stay warm like the rest of the body.
It is made of micro fibre midweight polyester fleece so it is very thin but also incredibly warm. It is lovely and soft to touch and feels lovely against the skin. When sitting down or lying down the Snuggie is completely effective against the cold and drafts, however if you stand up or walk around there is a gap at the back which does allow the cold in.
The Snuggie comes in a range of colours; navy blue, purple, green, red, ruby wine, pink, leopard print and zebra print, however at the moment it just comes in one size (which is incredibly large and will fit anyone). It can be purchased in a variety of shops and online stores. It retails for £14.99 on the JML website and £13.90 on Amazon. I've also found it for under £10 on Ebay including delivery, depending on the seller.
Snuggie have now expanded their range to include Snuggies for children and now for dogs too. I couldn't quite believe it myself so I've included the link here for any dog lovers! http://www.mysnuggiestore.com/c-102-pets.aspx. There is also a brand new 'Snuggie for two' which fits two people inside!
I've just washed my Snuggie once so far. Washing instructions suggested to wash with similar colours on a low temperature and tumble dry on a low heat. I actually let mine dry over a clothes rack which didn't take long at all and it dried neatly without the need for ironing.
I am a big fan of my Snuggie and have already got a lot use out of it since Christmas. When I have a quiet evening I like to sit in it and read a good book with a cuppa (or glass of wine!) and having the arm holes is ideal for keeping warm at the same time. It is also good for when I have my laptop on my knee and am typing away at my reviews! However, I've tried to keep it on when trying to take things out of the oven or make a cup of tea and it can be quite restrictive in these situations and I normally end up dumping it somewhere on the floor. It can also help with energy bills as you don't need to have the heating on all the time! Another negative for me is that I can never think of anywhere to keep it. I don't want it in the bedroom, I don't want to fold it and put it away, so it ends up sitting on the sofa in the lounge which is very messy! All in all, I think it's a great item but I don't think I'd bother paying up to £15 for it - wait to get it on offer or buy a cheaper alternative such as the new 'Snuggle Blanket'.
