JML Stick Up Bulb

Advantages: would light a small area relatively well
Disadvantages: needs batteries and eats them! Doesn't stick well, not bright
When we moved in to this house we discovered that there was access to the loft in my son's room. The access to the loft was basically by unlocking a door in the ceiling and pulling down some ladders and as we don't really use the loft for the most part what we were left with was a cubby area with some good storage options. I popped a wooden storage unit in there and some big toy buckets for some of my son's toys but there is no light in there and so on darker days or later evenings it can be hard to see well in the cupboard and even with the main light in the bedroom on it isn't particularly well lit. When I saw the JML stick up bulb in asda one day around twelve months ago I decided to give it a shot for the room as it seemed a perfect solution.
The stick up bulb came packed in a cardboard pack which was full of information about the wonders of the product! All JML packaging seems to be quite bold and almost boastful about their wonderful products and this one is no different. They claimed that this bulb was ideal as there is no wiring or anything needed, it doesn't get hot to the touch so making it safe for use in areas where children may be, it is shatterproof and easy to install. I really am terrible with do it yourself items for the most part and so this sounded an ideal solution to the lighting issues I was having in my son's toy cupboard.
As promised the stick up light was easy to install as you simply removed the paper from the sticky label and stuck it in to place. I had hoped that I would be able to stick it on to the wall as I felt this would be the place where it would give the best light for the area but it kept falling off the wall and so I don't think the sticky pad is the best really. In the end I made a little space on the wooden storage unit and stuck it on there but again the light was liable to move around a bit as the sticky pad wasn't great. At least on the storage unit it stayed upright though so I wasn't too worried.
The bulb needs four AA batteries for use and these are not provided and so you will need to buy these separately. I felt four batteries was a little excessive really and found that it soon used them and so in terms of value for money I am not sure this one is great as you do need to frequently replace batteries. My son would sometimes forget to switch it off too and so batteries were soon drained.
The stick up bulb has a little pull cord to switch the light on and off and I have to say I was very disappointed with the actual amount of light the bulb gave off. I wasn't expecting to be blinded by light but I would liken it more to a little night light that you may use for a child as opposed to a light bulb and for me this was disappointing as we needed more light for the toy cupboard. In the end we gave this up as a bad job as it just wasn't suitable for our needs. Perhaps it would be better in a smaller area such as a little cupboard or for emergency use as opposed to a genuine lighting option.
This cost me around five pounds for one bulb on offer at asda but it can be found for £10.29 at Homebase and I really wouldn't recommend it.
