We had some family round for a barbeque at the weekend so last week I went shopping for as many disposable items as I could possibly find. As this is one of the rare occasions when my husband takes over the cooking I wanted to make the most of relaxing and not standing cooking in the kitchen and didn't want to spoil the experience by having to wash up for ages afterwards. I have bought these type of plates previously from Poundland and have always found them to be very good quality. They are basically paper plates but they have sort of a slight glossy finish which looks and feels a bit plasticky and which seems to prevent liquids from soaking through.
Poundland change their designs regularly and this time when I went in they had these fabulous jungle design ones which have elephants, zebras's, lions and monkeys and are very bright and cheerful. As we had a lot of children coming to the barbeque these were just perfect. They came in a thin plastic wrapper which was easy to remove and dispose of. The tablecloth was perfect for covering my old pasting table and with the other matching accessories it did look very good.
There were seven of us for the barbeque so there were enough of these plates to use for dessert as well. I found that they were plenty big enough to put a burger, a few kebabs and plenty of salad and they didn't feel as though they were bending or would break at all. I made some cheesecakes for dessert and served these with ice cream or cream and the plates were also suitable for this as they are not completely flat and have quiet a turn up at the sides.
Obviously they went straight into a black bag at the end of the barbeque but I would think that if you had just used them for a sandwich you could give them a quick wipe with a damp kitchen roll if you wanted to use them for a dessert. All in all I think that these plates are very good value and I love the bright colours. I also like the idea that you can buy other items which match so I will definitely buy them again and think they are well worth £1.
Eating snacks and small party goodies are more fun when accompanied by your favourite jungle friends.
