Advantages: Better directional control, less splashing and a spray option

Disadvantages: Not cheap

Quite often the simplest of gadgets can be the most effective and that is very true, in my view, of the wonderful little Tap Adapta from Lakeland Limited. I first bought a Tap Adapta many years ago and had to remove it last year when I had a new sink unit fitted in my kitchen. Sadly it wouldn't fit my new tap so it lay in the drawer until a few weeks ago when I finally found all the little adapters in a cupboard (which I had put away in a 'safe' place) and was able to refit it and this has reminded me of just how much I missed it.

Basically the Tap Adapta is a fitting which fixes on to your taps to provide a choice of an aerated water supply from the tap or a spray. However it is also cleverly designed with a 360 degree swivel head to allow you to direct either the stream of water or the spray in whatever direction you choose. In other words it makes your tap completely flexible so that cleaning of the sink becomes a breeze and washing vegetables is really simple using the spray.

As always the good people at Lakeland seem to have thought of everything because to enable it to fit most taps on the market there are six different fitting adapters provided so that it can fit - there is even an adapter for an unthreaded tap, providing it has a round spout.

I found fitting it was easy. Most taps have a diffuser (which generally unscrews) and sure enough mine did. All I had to do was to unscrew that, find the right fitting adapter to suit the thread size and screw the Tap Adapter into place. Simple. Takes less then five minutes in fact and then you can enjoy aerated water or a spray whenever you want. To change from one to the other is simple pull down for a spray, push back for aerated water. It even seems to make the washing up liquid go further because it is easy to get a good lather!

I was really pleased to get my Tap Adapta working again but with a brand new sink and worktops it did look a little strange to have a white Tap Adapta on a stainless steel sink where some of the accessories are black. However these days the good people of Lakeland even have an answer for that little problem - they now make a black one! OK so it did mean I had to buy another one but it looks really smart now on my new tap and I have 'recycled' the old one to a colleague so it hasn't gone to waste.

Would I recommend it?

Emphatically yes. I have a swing arm on my mixer tap but even so the Tapa Adapta makes it so much more flexible and functional that I wouldn't want to be without it. They aren't cheap at £8.95 but they do last for ages. I have had one for a good six or seven years and it is still working well and I only changed it to get the different colour and recycled the old one. Certainly a good investment from my point of view and it looks smart too.
